I just started using apple music a couple weeks ago, having the same issue where the for you tab goes straight to recently played. had an hour long conversation with apple tech support, told me to play, like, follow more songs and artists, basically what they've been telling everyone in this part of the forum. i'll just leave a screenshot of how mine looks like here.

I can report for the past 2+ weeks all of the mixes have shown up and updated correctly. Too soon to call it fixed. I did the more plat/follow/like exercise months ago and it had no effect overall.

Has the issue continued to be resolved for you?

I have been dealing with this problem myself for the past 4 weeks or so. The playlist disappeared from my "For You" section but remained in my library (I added it there ages ago becuase sometimes its easier/quicker to get to it that way than the "For You" tab). However, the playlist that was in my library was much shorter than usual (only 15 songs or so) had almost nothing to do with my musical tastes and included many repeat artist/album tracks which had never happened before. That weird crappy playlist stayed in my library for about 3 weeks. It was then replaced last Friday with another even crappier one (with more repeats artists/album tracks and even less to do with my taste). This whole time it would not show up in my "For You" tab, though would show up in my recently played if i played stuff from it.

Weirdly I continued to get the Favorites and Chill Mix right on schedule with no problems. All other aspects of the recommendations in the For You tab continued to be spot on and clearly influenced by my actual tastes and listening.

Apple Support couldn't do much and kicked it back to engineering. Engineering's only suggestions were to 1)log out of apple music, restart a device and log back in. Predictably, since this was clearly an account wide problem, not a device specific problem (I was seeing the same thing on all five of my different devices signed into Apple Music), this did nothing. And 2) To listen to a more diverse set of artists/genres. I listen to tons of music, from many different artists/genres so this was clearly generic advice, not anything having to do with my specific account. I said as much to my Apple Support Rep (with examples and numbers) who said he would get back in touch with Engineering and forward my emails along.

Weirdly, today, a Thursday, a new playlist showed up, in both my library and in the For You section. This one has about 25 tracks (which is much more normal) has a diverse set of artists and albums (no repeats) and it actually seems to have at least some resemblance to my actual taste in music. It also claims that it was updated on Friday (of last week). I'm not quite sure what to make of this, but I'm wondering if an engineer finally took a look at my account and reset something or fixed a corrupted database or something like that, or maybe I benefited from a system wide fix/change to something or other. Either way it seems like maybe the mix I was SUPPOSED to have show up last Friday has finally showed up today.

Anyway I'll be keeping an eye on things. I'll see if disappears again tomorrow, or if it gets replaced by a new playlist and I'll bee keeping an eye on it for at least a few weeks. I've seen from you guys that sometimes it'll come back for a week or two and then disappear again so I want to be sure it's really fixed before I close my ticket.

Well my 14 month old ticket is still opened. But I have had the new music mix update each Friday for almost 2 months. At one point it didn't update for 2 straight weeks but remained in the For You section. Then my Apple tech said to try liking different music and it started updating again.

My problem was it always stopped showing in the For You section. Engineering told me the same things but somehow it started working. And engineering rarely gets back to the tech handling my case so I don't know what happens.

Lucky you I wish my "New Music Mix" would disappear. I listen to zero hip hop or explicit garbage yet the "New Music Mix" recommends plenty of it. Other services with the same listening habits 50-90's music up to 2006, christian, smooth jazz, Latin, world like Play Music recommend New Music I like. Apple Music recommends garbage I hate.

I see that at times too. But recently since I have been more pro-active with liking songs I listen to, the list has been more appropriate for me. Spotify seems to be better at this than AM but I get some outliers there too.

And you should definitely dislike songs that you don’t like.

New Music mix is even worse this week I mean really bad about 80% of the tracks are explicit rap garbage. The weird part is that at the bottom the "New releases" section is more accurate. Except for one new Toni Braxon album which is explicit and expected to show up because I only listen to her music up to 2000.

It's tragic how utterly rubbish AM recommendation algorithms are. Even when actively liking/disliking stuff, it still doesn't get any better. Spotify seems to do just fine without any interactions, just based on what you actually listen to.

Apple is just a big bag of fail on anything AI related it seems.

New music mix this week might make me cancel AM. It recommend all explicit music even with one album with the actual F word in the album artwork.

i agree the new music mix has gotten so bad.
Just give me a option to hide it. I left useless feedback by even calling Apple support annoying them but yet it still shows up every Friday with 90% horrible suggestions.

I would love for my For You section to look like that. Although the Chill and Favorite Music mix is way more accurate I can do without it to forever hide the horrible New Music Mix.

My New Music Mix was getting better, but yesterday's was pretty bad again.

Spotify's Discover Weekly still beats it.

What I do like about Apple Music is their "You might also like" (artists) below the currently playing album/artist. Good way to find new music.

Yes it does. But I find the daily mixes on Spotify never really change
That's true.

Have you tried the 'Release Radar' playlist on Spotify? Might be a better discovery journey between the official Discover Weekly updates.

Yes I have - updates on Fridays like AM does

I’ve started using Apple Music again this month. This time I’m actually liking and disliking songs and 3 weeks in, I’m finding it better tailored to me than Spotify. I still think Spotify’s Discover Weekly is great (even though I’m starting to see a lot of repeats) but their Daily Mixes and their radio are pretty bad. I find Apple’s curated playlist and also their radio function much better. So far so good, but still not sure if I’m 100% convinced to jump ship to Apple Music full time.

Also, I find the AM app much better to navigate than Spotify which is a mess.

I've never used Spotify, but I want to add it's quite important to like and dislike songs if you want a better mix, you can't just depend on what you liked when you set AM up in the first place. If you do that, I find it works quite well.

I disliked every explicit rap song they recommend but every week they still keep popping up in my new music mix.

Isn't there a setting to block explicit music? I thought I saw that option somewhere...
