I bought the Spigen Ultra Flip, mainly for the card slot (mine will hold two credit cards)

Just my opinion of course but personally, this is why I think these style of cases are flawed! When you slide the credit cards into the slot and then close the flap, the cards make direct contact with the screen of the iPhone potentially scratching it!

After a week of pocket use, my SurfacePad is in shreds. Within a day the inner material separated from the outer leather on the bottom of the spine making it difficult to close. After a week, the outer edge is completely coming apart on the cover revealing little threads and a piece of cardboard or whatever it is stiffening the cover.

I've taken it off and will probably be looking at the Spigen Ultra Flip.

Now that you mention it, the RevJams cover has a teeny bit of clearance when flat on the iPhone screen. Actually perfect for the trGlas screen! Damn you I now have yet something Else to buy...:D

and I may take a piece of 600 grit WetOrDry sandpaper to that glossy case back. Just to matte it up a little...

Took your advice and used 600 grit sandpaper and it turned out well. No fingerprints now!

That must be defective ?

It happens all the time with other companies...especially the first batch because that's when they find out the issues from real users. One time I heard from one company that most of the defects were made on Fridays...it sounds like employees were rushing and already looking forward for the weekend.

Muwahahahahaha! Glad it worked for you. Wish they'd make'em matte to begin with...all glossy products actually, except things like cars of course. Those are supposed to be shiny.

PS. Hey just curious, did you go in circular motions or put the sandpaper down on a flat surface and drag the case over it (like in a straight line)? I did the circular motions like waxing a car, but now thinking maybe I could have just pulled it straight across, directly over the sandpaper itself.

Oh yeah one thing about the Spigen UF, if you use the card slot (as in stretch it out a bit by jamming two cards in it like I did) then the edge/lip of the slot itself starts curling up. No big deal if you keep cards in it (the cards keep the lip stretched straight across) or when the cover is closed since you do not see it. But this anomaly could bother certain people whenever they open the cover to use the phone and they see the curling.

I went straight up and down on the back so it was uniform instead of a circular motion. Took a bit of time to do. Wiped with a wet towel, wiped dry, and continued with that process until it took on a uniform matte look. I also did the sides to match, but really no reason to do so. happy with the outcome.

Thanks for that info. For me doing the sides actually had benefits depending on the case material. Not so much in this case (pun intended) since the edge of the flap cover itself helps to grip the phone, but I once had a clear hard plastic and SUPER slick snap-on case for an iPhone 4, and sanding the sides increased the friction and it was easier to pick the phone up off a flat surface like tables and such. As well as giving it a matte, frosted look.

Just received my white SurfacePad!
First impressions: It's totally awesome. Slim. Modern. I'm getting all excited over here, heh.

Removed the rashguards from the sector 5 packaging. Wow, those were nice to get off. I'm getting new ones tho hehe. Also - I'll be needing some plastic to cover the small lip at the back that is unprotected. I know, it's hard to get scratches back there but it can happen because it's not covering that part like the foot in the shoe.

Update: Like other early adopters mine was beginning to split at the bottom and so I sent an email for a replacement. The new one came today and it is a huge upgrade over the previous one. The front cover is made of a denser and sturdier material than the previous one. Also the leather is softer on the hinge which means it now closes completely when face up. Also with the softer leather it goes into stand mode a lot easier. It was as though TwelveSouth read all the isses and made adjustments overnight.

Can you post some pics of the newer version (especially the front cover)? Thanks!

So tempting to buy! I had a BookBook for my iPhone 4.. It was nice but I ultimately sent it back due to the thickness (obviously not an issue here) and the fact the having to hold back the cover lined with credit cards/cash became annoying. I want one bad, just need to decide if it will end up driving me crazy haha. Anyone dislike this case due to having to flip the cover every time to use the phone?

Although I had avoided flip cases up until recently, I became a semi-fan of them once I realized what that little hole was on the front covers of some of them. An ear hole! Dial (or answer) on the phone screen, close the cover and talk! No more holding back them pesky flaps!

And once some of the makers cut slots for credit cards inside the front cover, and made the slots low enough that the inserted credit cards were still below the ear hole, that was the ultimate move!

A wallet AND no flap holding!

But I still rotate through some other different wallet-type cases as well because those flap credit card slots only hold one or two cards and I need room for at least four-five. Plus some cash. So I use the Ultra Flip, RevJams and the (still incoming) knock-off from ebay for the times when I'm just heading to the gym or to Starbucks or wheeling my kid to school and might only need my ID and credit card or a $20 bill, if even those.

Actually , I'm a fan of all flipcases whether its to galaxy s3 or iPhone. Just the way you need to flip it open makes it much more ... how to put it.. Interesting to open and find out what's in it. It's hard to explain but it adds something different in the processes of exploring your phone.

Besides that , just the functionality to use it as a stand is really nice even if you don't think about it at first .

Oh wow I did not know you can talk with the flap closed. Might have to give the Surfacepad a go. I'll think it over and more than likely be back here typing up a review :p

Ohhh no, No, NO! The Surfacepad does NOT have the earhole! The Spigen Ultra Flip (and a couple of its ebay clones) does, that's why I have not bought the S-Pad, and with the latest cover separation issues I will wait to see if they are first resolved - along with perhaps adding that earhole.

The SurfacePad doesn't have the hole for the earpiece. Cases like the Spigen Ultra Flip and Elago S5 Leather Flip do.

Ahhh oh okay! I was wondering why no one had shown that in the video reviews. Well dang. I was pretty excited haha. I'll have to check out the Ultra Flip then. Thanks for clarifying!
