The iPhone is too small to do a lot of web surfing on. I do not care about pixel density since as soon as it is night time my eye sight turns to rubbish. There is no point in having well defined size 2 letters when i cant make it out anyway. A 3.5" screen will never help me here. Even with the high pixel density, you are still seeing less information over all. Its like saying smaller photo prints are better just because the dpi is higher.

Even with a 27" iMac and a 17" MBP, I would rather surf the web on my ipad while sitting on the couch with the family instead of cooped up in the office. I never did this with the iPhone because i don't consider that an enjoyable experience. The iPhone is literally tiny.

I recently wrote a 6500 word article all on the ipads virtual keyboard. I did this because I wanted to watch tv while I did it. Screw doing that on an iPhone, your thumbs would fall off. iPhone cannot do this.

I cannot hand a client a phone to show them a product, but a 10" tablet does fine.

For me, there is no case in the portability factor. My iPad comes with me everywhere my iPhone does. I have a car and a bag, why would I need it to fit into a pocket?

So the ipads 10" screen is the killer app. It doesn't need a retina display, it already shows you more information. It doesn't need a camera since every mobile phone has one byway. If you have an iPad you most likely have a mobile phone. It doesn't need 512mb of ram to be usable. Did no one here live through the era where 64mb of ram could run a multi-tasking desktop operating system which could run Photoshop? Obviously things will progress, but saying that a device has no purpose because something can be done on another device, even if not as well, is ridiculous.

The fact that you do not own an iPad means you cannot understand it. Looking for hardware features to justify purchase will get you nowhere. The magic about the ipad is not what it alone can do, it is what it can do better then both an iPhone and a laptop.

If you do not have the money to buy an iPad, then don't. You wont miss out on a killer feature, you will just miss out on a better way of doing things.

I wouldn´t mind having one, but like I said, now it is waste of money, so I won´t buy one.

So that´s why I´m hoping it will have something cool in the next model. Something that I can´t do with my iPhone 4. So it will be actually worth the money.

How is it not worth the money? That's totally a mindset but let me expand:
IPhone 4: 599 no contract for the 16gb, or 200 + the 24 month contract times 50 (which is actually not even possible to go that low) = $1400

iPad 3G: 16gb 629 no contract = 629. Make sure that you understand the price differences and that your iPhone is not actually $200....

When your "opinion" only consists of you repeating yourself every other message, then yes. We get it, you don't want one. Move along

I´ve only had to repeat myself, because you don´t get it.

And I´ll repeat myself one more time, so maybe, just maaaaaaybe you´ll get it. (I´ll doubt it though).

I would like an iPad, but only when it offers something that I can´t do with my iPhone. Otherwise it would be just waste of money to buy one. Get it?

There is nothing that my iMac can do that my MBP could not. So why did I buy it?

End of story.

Are you trying to change our minds to sell our iPads? I'm not sure what you're looking for. Perhaps a "congrats, glad you figured out how to spend your allowance"?

I guess my real question is why come to an iPad specific forum just to start sh**? It doesn't make sense

Ahh, and there we have it! As usual, the guy ranting the loudest about what "a waste of money" the iPad is, etc., cannot afford to buy one, so he needs to try and rip it to shreds because he cannot possess an iPad himself! You've just tipped your hand, Bob.

And I love your little comparison chart before showing that iPad is for "casual" use, where as Laptop is for casual and "serious" work, just like iPhone! LOL!

Yes, I get all sorts of "serious" work done on my iPhone, after all, it's just an iPod Touch that makes phone calls.

Sorry you don't have the means, Bob, but the iPad rules, and NOBODY would EVER use their iPhone 4 over the iPad if they had their choice and both were sitting on a table in front of them ready to be used.

This is the last you'll hear from me in this troll-y thread, but your original post and subsequent responses were just so transparent that I felt the need to "out" you. Things'll pick up soon, friend.

Britney Spears sells albums too in great numbers, does that make the music good? No.

That's an illogical and rather immature argument.

But if your going to go there then I'll put it in terms you might be able to comprehend.

Britney sells albums to her target audience and millions of people enjoy. She's not trying to convince everyone to buy her albums / songs. There are millions who will say her stuff is excellent as much as there are many that it simply does not appeal to. Some may prefer Christina or J-Lo instead, and likewise there outputted material will either fall into the same categories as liked/not liked. They are not trying to convince everyone - just their target audience.

You see this is real life and it apply's to everything.

So if Apple have devised a Tablet that many find the greatest thing since sliced bread and it sells very well, just because it does not offer you anything does not mean that Apple should suddenly change tact and create something that appeals just to you.

You see here's the big deal breaker and it's probably going to rock you to your very core......

The world DOES NOT revolve around you.

to the OP. In a word - no. It doesn't have to have anything more or less than the iPhone. It's a different device and has a different path, use case, etc.

If you want an iPhone, get an iPhone. If you want an iPad, get an iPad. If you want or need both - then get both. But trying to assert that either device better have something the other doesn't is silly.

Why should i get out of bed at 2am to answer an email when i get hit with insomnia when i can grab my ipad and answer it without finding my glasses?

And I couldn't see the retina screen on the iPhone very well... And yes I'm sure i do need to go to the eye doctor, but hey, i hqve double vision too and dont like wearing my reading glasses with prisims outside of the house. Its a paint to carry 3 pairs of glasses.

Basially, YOU see no value in the iPad. Fine. We get it. But please don't discount what others have the need for until you travel and live in each of our lives.

If you did, you'd find that the 17" mbp i have is impractical for my mobile needs on a weekly basis and the iPad is the perfect fit.

And i dont want a contract.

And I don't want AT&T for my phone service, I tolerate them for the iPad. Barely.

I don't play childish games.... Unless logic games are childish. Again, come live my living hell for the last 2 years and see if you wouldn't also be playing a few games in the evening as a diversion.

So wait for a device that is worth it to you, but testing in a store isn't anywhere close to the same as owning one.

I disagree. iPhone + Laptop/iMac can do everything better than iPad, so why would you need an iPad for a "third wheel"?

It needs to have something special that the iPhone doesn´t have (bigger screen isn´t that special feature), otherwise it´s just a very stripped down version of the iPhone and you´re just making excuses for it.

Next iPad needs to have something special that the iPhone doesn't have

Or.... what?

What will happen if the next gen iPad doesn't have something "special"? What you perceive to be a lack of features on the current iPad isn't affecting sales for Apple at all right now. What devastating thing do you think will happen if the next gen iPad is still behind the next gen iPhone?

Here's an idea: why don't you suggest what specific piece of hardware you would like to see an iPad have to make it "worth your money?"

Sure, people would love to see more memory, a camera, more storage, a higher-resolution screen, a gyroscope, etc. Presumably those will all come, but they do not distinguish them from the iPhone in the way that you look at this whole issue.

However, the vast majority of people seemingly are smitten with the form factor and the hardware, and don't feel like there should be some big change.

So again, what piece of hardware do you want?

Two features I know I'll be using. Using the thing while I'm on the toilet and, let's be honest, watching porn on the iPad would be so cool (I do admit it'd be kind of hard to hold and... you know). That alone makes it better than an iPhone and completely justifies my purchase. (I'm kidding)

Or am I??

Well that´s why I made this thread. To speculate what Apple might come up with...

I don´t know, maybe you guys have some ideas?

I would love to see more freedom, like a standalone product. Maybe modify the iOS more for the iPad, full internet (yes with flash), maybe 1080p video and 18mpix camera, maybe "square" like form factor so you can set it on the table standing to shoot video, maybe something no one hasn´t thought of yet... I´m sure they could do something special with the size of the thing to separate it from the iPhone.
