Google definitely needs to make headway in establishing better relations with the carriers. They need to gain more clout, as Apple already has and as Samsung is getting. This will happen faster and easier if the Nexus brand becomes more desirable.

I understand why lack of LTE is a deal breaker for some.

The Nexus line is on the right track. We'll see what relationships Google can forge with the carriers in the coming year(s).

maybe you have some kind of super battery. my nexus sucked, could barely make it to half day. All reviews I've ever read said battery life was horrible.....

Tis be gorgeous, indeed. The iPhone 5 still looks weird to me, like it's a chocolate bar.

I think the back of both devices is love or hate.

But the sides easily go to Apple's diamond cut polish edges, especially the white one.

The screen resolution doesn't look bad at all on the nexus that is one area where I was a bit worried, but looks good enough

I've read (and experienced) nothing but the opposite.

Unless you're talking about the Verizon Galaxy Nexus? I've heard battery problems with those. The culprit? LTE.

-------

Verge's review of the GSM Galaxy Nexus (the one I have):

I've now had well over a week to test the battery life on the Galaxy Nexus, and I'm pleased to say the results are better than expected. On a typical day of heavy use (phone calls, lots of email, Twitter, general productivity tasks) I'm more than able to go through my entire workday. Squeezing out 19 hours or more on a single charge is not uncommon. Some days, that number is shortened if I'm watching video, taking more calls than usual, or playing games, but it's no more dramatic a dip than you might see on any other smartphone. In using the device as my daily driver, I haven't found any major issues with battery life which would I would consider show-stopping.

I think any recent smartphone with the S4 processor is going to get you through the day. That was the big breakthrough. You can actually get through the day with a LTE phone now. I don't understand comments that say all Android phone batteries suck except for the RAZR MAXX.

I actually can't wait for the reviews to come out. I'm thinking the Nexus 4 won't have Motorola battery length, but superior to most Android phones out there. Especially with just HSPA+.

And I really hope we see a 32GB version early next year. I've been looking at what I could possibly run on the new Nexus, and 32GB would help so much. But I wouldn't not buy it just because it only had 16GB, I'd just have to manage for now.

To people in the UK:

This post says that O2 will have exclusivity for the first month and you won't be able to buy the Nexus 4 anywhere else other than the Play store. Is this true? What happened to the leaks from the Carphone Warehouse?

http://www.android.gs/o2-uk-one-month-exclusivity-lg-nexus-4/

Also confirmed here http://www.3g.co.uk/PR/Oct2012/google-nexus-4-how-does-it-compare-to-the-iPhone-5-Galaxy-S3.html

I don't believe this will happen, what would Google gain from restricting their handset just one network for a month?

I'm on contract with O2 at the moment, one would assume that the price for of contract handset would be the same price as from the play store? If not, I would probably buy direct from Google P Store.

Must admit that the comments about battery are a bit out as far as Im concerned, I have used it for over six and a half hours and still got 76% left.........Oh, and a spare battery.

There's so much misinformation over at the iPhone forum regarding the Nexus 4. Heh.

The funniest being people saying it's cheap plastic on the back yet again!

I think the Note 2 is the king when it comes to battery life. ;) Here's my current battery stats for my Note 2:

Looks like you've plugged in your phone 4 times and your phone is being kept awake for some reason. Also a screenshot of the Screen section would be useful

Screen section? It's in the picture, it's at 44%.

That doesn't tell me how long it's been on. You can click on Screen to see how long it's been on exactly. I guess 44% of 53 hours (2 days 5 hours) is 23 hours of screen on time and I find that very hard to believe :p

I couldn't agree more! Amazing how uninformed people are around here!

To the people (and there are plenty of them over on XDA as well) that are crying over it not having LTE, get over it. Good lord, for those of us that live in "flyover country", we don't have and won't be getting LTE any time soon. We couldn't care less about LTE yet.

To the people that are with Verizon or Sprint (who do have LTE)...sorry about your luck. The funny thing is, those of you that own the "Galaxy Nexus" that those carriers sold, you didn't have a real Galaxy Nexus anyway. Google made a HUGE mistake by committing a version of the GNex to the carriers and they know it and won't make that same mistake again. I had Jelly Bean on my real GNex a few days after Google announced it...how about you guys? Yep, that's what I thought. If you've got a phone where the carrier still controls the OS updates and those updates don't come straight from Google, then you don't have a real Nexus phone. Why on Earth they called those abominations the "Galaxy Nexus" is beyond me.

I'm griping over absolutely NOTHING with this new Nexus 4. I'll gladly pay $350 through Google Play and enjoy a wonderful, pure Android experience. And when I feel like it, I'll easily flash one of the hundreds of custom ROMs that will surely follow. I can relax knowing that it's nearly impossible to brick it and I can easily go back to stock 4.2 if I want.

While I understand some people's gripes over wanting more on-board storage space, 16 gb is more than enough for me personally. I love the fact that LG is bringing more premium-feeling materials to the Nexus line (although that's not a requirement for me). And finally, I'm extremely excited that they've finally brought the camera in-line with other high-end smartphones (as I use the camera on my phone on a daily basis).

For this price, what do you have to gripe about? Nothing. It'll be a great phone with a GREAT OS and it will be updated in a timely manner. That's really all you can ask for, especially for this kind of money. :D

Don't forget the iPhone 5 just got LTE about a month ago.

The beauty of Android is, once again, choice. If LTE is that important (or SD expansion, or removable battery) there are other phones. Yes, there are tradeoffs, but that's how freedom of choice works: Choices aren't always easy to make. Hard choices are better than no choices.

Glad to see you in this part of the forums. I haven't been visiting the hacks section ever since I got my GS3 :D

Oh I see what you mean. :p here it is:

Wow that's still pretty good compared to the 12hrs on and 3hrs screen on I get with my GS3. Try going a whole charge cycle without plugging it in. I'd be interested to see the stats then.

It's actually inaccurate.

But, Google definitely needs to get carrier specific LTE versions out there. It'll be better for them and for the consumers. They'll have to forge those relationships somehow. Hard to do when these unlocked prices are such a big **** you to the carriers.
