What you are referring to us Persistent Wifi that was introduced in IOS 4. If you don't have a data connection then Wifi stays active if the phone is sleep.

Thus you mentioned a silly work around.
lol.... you have a strange way of saying you were mistaken. As I have said since you made the ridiculous claim that wife "turned off", that is simply not true.

Wifi turns off if , you MUST be connected to a charger or don't have a data connection. Your silly workaround fits the criteria, but you lose phone functionality.

I was not mistaken. On Android, you have the option to keep wifi active regardless of the situation.

Stop being so ridiculous. Anyone with a wifi iPad or iPad touch knows it's wifi is not dead merely because the device is asleep. Iphone is no different. At least think it through before making these absurd claims.

^ now you're just being argumentative.

Did you even research this stuff? Surely an iPod doesn't have a data connection so it fits the criteria of persistant wifi.

I had no idea macrumors people were this petty and simple.

Lets continue to ignore facts though. Better yet, can you produce a factual link that states that wifi stays active regardless of data/charger situations like android?

Anybody have any word from google customer service? I still have no change to my account. I've been talking to them once a day but I haven't yet today.

Edit: spoke to CS they say the phone will be here tomorrow and tracking numbers will go out tonight or tomorrow morning. It's about time.

Macrumors people? I'm done with you and your ridiculous assertion. You know, the one I already disproved in my first reply to this nonsense (hint: wifi on in airplane mode). Amazing how iMessage works with no cellular or wifi connection lol.

Give it up.

The phone would be at Google HQ or at your house? Were you backordered?

The rep said that I will have the phone tomorrow. Hope she is right. As you see above another wave of shipping notifications are going out. Also, I was not back ordered.

Edit: got my shipping notification! About damn time!!

What is this, I don't even.

Why the hell are you people arguing about wifi staying connected during sleep -- of all things! -- in a Nexus 4 thread? Get your own room!

I still have not heard anything from google either...no shipping, no back order email...nothing and I ordered 2 minutes before you. The earlier you ordered the more jacked your order is =/

Indeed, the order fulfilment process leaves much to be desired. I ended up getting a Note ii instead. Even though the Nexus 4 hasn't shipped and I'm on back order, Google can't cancel the order. I have to basically refuse the delivery and it will get sent back to Google. Brilliant use of company resources.

All I know is that when I bring my iPhone back to life the wifi symbol is not "there" and only then kicks back to life .. so no idea what you are all on about.

Yet if before you brought it back to life you were to open iTunes you would see the iPhone listed and could initiate a sync or backup. Only if within wifi range, naturally. How do you suppose iTunes does that, pixie dust?

I won't even get into the outrage there would be if all night long any emails received, etc. were being downloaded over cellular.

As for how this relates to the N4, it's simple: you can force wifi to be truly off on the N4 when it's sleeping. You don't get that option with iOS as Apple has made that decision for you. You can also tell the N4 to not use wifi if the wifi doesn't have a good Internet connection. The iPhone will blindly switch from a perfectly good 3G/4G connection to a wifi connection that has no Internet access.

What? Of course you can turn wifi off on iOS. I do that often because of all the wifi hotspots causing problems with my download while I'm driving.
