Stock Email app still doesn't support IMAP push notifications

And to think, this OS comes from the makers of the most widely used email service.

----------

The new L release also won't let me update any of my Google Apps (Music, Search, G+, Camera, Drive, Calendar, etc.).
Stock email app? You are referring to the AOSP email client? I have no idea why that was added into the GAPPS package for a Nexus factory image? It never was before.

I think so. There was like 20 of them.

Right now I'm trying to root it. Anybody have any luck yet?

Good luck. Is there a CWM or TWRP recovery out already?

----------

I told you art worked just fine :p

Yeah, yeah. I just wasn't going to risk it on my Moto X. I didn't care if it messed up my Nexus 5, since I don't use it.
Buuuutttt... Now I'm gonna start using my Nexus 5 as my daily driver. Until WP8.1 is officially out with the Lumia Cyan update. Then I'll be back to Windows.

Then when the iphone6 is released with ios8, I'll be back on iOS. If the cycles stays spread out, I'll never grow bored of any OS. LOL

Thanks Lloydbm41 for the video and answering all the questions. You are a man of many OSes!

Got it rooted but it only works for a few apps. Titanium backup isn't one of them, essentially making this pointless.

Give XDA devs a few days to a week and I'm sure they will have something cooked up. :D

According to one post its a problem that is on the app level. Each root app will have to be updated to accommodate the new method for obtaining system write access or something like that. But that was just from another forum member so I don't know if its true or not.

OP, has anyone asked this yet?

Can you turn off the new Heads Up notification? In other words, can you revert it back to regular ol' status bar notifications that Android has always used instead of the Heads Up one?

Found a workaround.

Download Chomp and then in settings have SMS send via your network instead of over WiFi. This worked for me.

Yes, you have the ability to completely shut off all notifications all the time or only during select times. You also can blacklist specific apps. And of course, you have the option to limit how much data is seen i.e. you get a text, but only want to see the senders name when it pops up.

What happens if you turn off Heads Up? Does it go back to using status bar notifications? That's all still there, right?

Status bar only uses graphical icons now. And of course led notifications still light up. But if you are asking about rolling text within the status bar, then no, that appears to be gone.

I found out that Light flow caused my phone to do the rebooting crash. Also Chomp SMS worked to fix the SMS issue Thanks!:D

Glad I could help. ;) Beta build bugs suck if you can't find a workaround, especially for something like texts.

----------

I know nothing about building apps/rooting etc. I've got a Nexus 5 - should I have a go at loading it or am I in for a world of hurt?

If the Nexus 5 is your daily driver and it must work 100%, I don't recommend putting a Beta build OS on it. Hell, we still don't know what works and what doesn't.

I'd hold off until Google drops Beta build 2 and squashes some bugs. That's just me though.

Nexus 5 is the first device I actually tested Beta build on, how would I update to the next build? With iOS I know I could do OTA updates.

Is the battery life better since the beta of Android L? I hope so because i think ti will get better when finished.

I now have 1 cycle complete on the battery. I need 2 more cycles before I consider the kernel and apps settled for proper CPU prioritization. And of course, Android L now has a built in battery saver that really shuts all the CPU cores down when not in use, turn the screen brightness way down and I believe even underclocks on the fly. I have mine set to activate at 5% battery left, which supposedly will give me another 90 minutes of talk time. So, I think battery life numbers are now skewed a bit.
But as you can see in my earlier post, I got near 4 hours of screen on time the first day and that was really hammering the phone downloading apps to set the phone up.

It certainly seems so. Verdict is still out though.

My experience seems similar to this one.

How come you're not using the developer preview for wp8.1? I had that on my lumia 1020 and it's great. Love the camera, but I'm so tied up in the app ecosystem of ios. Android has most of the apps so I don't mind using Nexus 5 as daily driver.
