I really hope it's not HTC, their hardware is awful. It looks cool but it will fall apart if you look at it wrong in my experience. Even the HTC One has a very high return rate due to faults according to someone I know who does smartphones for businesses.

Look at it wrong? Not following.

I think right now the new Moto X+1 is way more interesting than the Nexus 6.

With the Nexus phone we know they're not available everywhere, most times with bugs, weak camera and battery, etc.

Motorola is even updating their phones as fast as the Nexus line, so I'm not that interested in the Nexus 6 anymore. Only benefit I see is the superior developing community, easy rooting and factory images.

And price. The moto didn't drop to sub $450 for a few months.

I agree. My Moto X is the best phone I have ever owned, even with the lower specs it came with compared to other flagship Android phones. If the X+1 gets a CPU update, a 1080p screen and comes standard with 32gb internal storage, I would be happy. Nothing else needs to be changed.

Battery life was never bad on the Nexus 5? The SoT has always been right there with the iPhone and other flagship Android phones like the S4, M7, etc. The camera situation is no longer existent either. Google now updates the Google camera via an app. When the Nex5 first came out pictures were always pretty good in natural sunlight, but in shade or darker indoor settings it sucked.

Motorola can update as fast as Google puts the code out because they are running stock Android, with most of their added software updated via apps and not over-layed within the OS. I'd also hazard to guess that as a subsidiary of Google, they have been privy to Android updates before they were available to other OEM's.

Strongly disagree! The camera could be better. Much better!

If I'm not mistaken, I thought I read it was actually the opposite. Because Google didn't want to look like they were playing favorites after buying Motorola, they actually gave it to them later. Or so I thought the story goes..

Unless it has a 6" screen, it won't be called a Nexus 6.

Nexus 4 didn't have a 4" screen, it was closer to 5" at 4.7". Google isn't bound to standard naming conventions.

In fact, the Nexus 5 wasn't even a 5" screen. It was 4.95". So, a Nexus 6 could be a very realistic name if the screen is over the 5" mark.

Then what do they do the following year, call it a Nexus 7?

No, the naming convention for a good long while has been based on the screen size. The Nexus 7, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, Nexus 5, and Nexus 4 all subscribe to it.

I know what you are saying, but naming conventions and screen size are not one in the same. Google doesn't have to make a 6" screen to call it a Nexus 6. You seem to be under the impression that Google has to use numbers to name a phone. Google can call it the Nexus Ballsack if they want.

Of course they could change it to whatever they want, but I don't think they will.

Nexus phones are named by the generation year, not the size of the screen, the Nexus tablets are newer to scene and don't count.

Nexus-One wasn't 1"
Nexus-S was 4" screen
Galaxy Nexus was 4.7"
Nexus 4 was the 4th gen Nexus phone @ 4.7" screen, almost 5"
Nexus 5 was the 5th gen Nexus phone, and just happened to be 5.0" screen
Nexus 6 is predicted to have a 5.2" or 5.5" screen, they won't name it the Nexus 5.2

The fact that the Nexus 4 and 5 are the 4th and 5th phone is 100% coincidence.

I'll bet you the new Nexus phone coming out this Oct / Nov, will be named the Nexus 6.

And then it's just a matter of who Google contracted to make it ? Asus, Sony, or HTC ?

So it's getting closer to another Nexus phone release in three months. What do we expect or think we will be getting ?

- Google officially announced the Nexus smartphone is NOT dead, and will continue on, even with the upcoming 'Silver' line coming in 2015, which is basically a new name for the GPE line, but with more support from carriers and advertising, and more players involved, etc...

- Most expect it to be named the Nexus 6

- 5.2" to 5.5" screen size has been rumored for the Nexus-Six

- Snapdragon 805 also expected to be in the Nexus-Six

- Asus has been rumored to be the manufacturer this time around. Rumors last year several reports came out that Google wanted LG to start making the Nexus Tablet and have Asus switch to the Nexus smartphone, to help keep costs down. But who knows ? I also heard Sony could be up for it. But LG is out, they even stated so.

- Same price range of $399 is pretty much set.

- October announcement, with a November release has been the trend for the Nexus phone.

I hope not. 5.2" is stretching it for me. 5.5" is just too big. The N5 is 4.95" so maybe 5.2 would be ok but i dont like that the overall size keeps getting bigger. I hope it is 5"-5.1".

I dont care who makes it but i doubt it will be Sony. Read rumors a couple months ago of it being a LG but whatever.
I'd love to see Nokia make it. They have always made nice phones and they have a Android phone coming out but in pics it is still the live tile aspect.....if those are actual pics of it .

Yep, that's all there's to it. The next Nexus will be the 6, anything else just wouldn't make sense. And it'd probably not be very commercially viable for them to make it a 6" screen phone so I seriously doubt we'll see that.

Just improve the battery and camera on the current Nexus 5. That's all N5 needs at the moment. Other than those, it's the perfect device.

I'm more inclined to believe this. They are going based on screen size. It makes sense to call it a nexus 5 (2014) like they did with the n7.

Are they going to call it a nexus 7 (phone) next year? It seems screen size is what they started in 2012 and will continue to use.

That or they will drop the numbering scheme all together.

I would like to see them take the approach of keeping the screen size the same, but making the phone a little smaller. Similar to the moto X. Improve the battery life, and speakers. Android L is fantastic. However, I would love if they give gif support within their standard messaging app.

I'm not sure why you come to that conclusion. Out of the 5 Nexus (phone) models so far only 1 has the same name as the screen size, I'm not trying to start an argument and TBH, it doesn't bother me what they call it (having said that, I wouldn't want to carry a phone called a Ballsack if Google take up Lloydbm41 suggestion:D), just trying to understand your thinking.:)

I'm not sure sure what to expect, but I can say what I'd like:

* Stick with 5" screen instead of going up to 5.5"
* Improved low light camera performance
* Improved battery
* Better device security - I'd like to see iPhone-like always-on hardware encryption model which facilitates instant remote wipe & wipe upon multi-password failure. This is the kind of feature it would make sense to introduce on a Nexus device first.

Nexus 4...4"
Nexus 5...4.95" basically 5"

Unless they are done with tablets, the names/numbers will start to conflict.
