Moto X 2014 is not an option because of weak battery life. Also it's not as development friendly as the Nexus line.

Is it really THAT weak? I mean, come on, I've heard it's not worse than the iPhone 6; and you've got fast charging. And it's practically a stock experience with some very nice additions to it. If I had to buy a new phone I think the Moto X would be my first choice at the moment.

I still use my HTC One m7 and (as everyone knows) it's battery life sucks; but I usually get through a workday without any problems.. it only blows when you travel a lot, but a lot of phones suffer the same problem.

On top of each other though, it doesn't look as huge. We'll see.

That actually make it look bigger haha

Size comparison

My concern is how wide it is. I definitely cannot preorder it until I see it first hand. I have small hands, and it seriously looks like the phone would nearly stretch the width of my hand. I could probably barley even touch parts of the screen with 1 hand.

It is significantly wider that the 6+ in that photo, and the 6+ has a case on.

I just realised that my Note 2 with a slim case on is almost exactly as wide as the Nexus 6 will be (Note 2 is 2 mm less wide but the case adds ca 1 mm on either side). This is not that terribly wide, it won't be a problem for me.

EDIT: I misread, the Note 2 is 3 mm less wide. But then again I think actually my case adds more like 1,5 mm on either side so my point stands. Additionally, the Note 6 is also 1 mm thicker than the Note 2 so with the case on this gives me a pretty solid preview of how the N6 will feel in the hand allround. The N6 also gets thinner towards the edges so it'll probably actually feel thinner than the Note 2 + case.

Will you put a case on it too?

I guess it is just a matter of getting use to using a phone with 1 hand holding it and the other hand touching the screen. I am at polar ends with my phone decision right now....the Z3C or the n6.

True, I might. Not sure though, that'll depend on how slippery the N6 is. Someone mentioned a return policy for Nexus devices where you could get a free replacement/fix for a broken screen once, is there any truth to that?

Wow those are quite on the opposite sides of the spectrum dude :p

Most Moto X users (2014 model) are getting between 14 and 19 hours and 3:30 SOT. That's not bad at all and if you add in the turbo charger it should be great. 10 minutes on that baby and you're set to go for another 8 hours!

Wow what a big difference in size between those two phones!
But size difference aside those are 2 great choices......

I have not heard that......

I love the size of smaller phones, but I also love pure android with the latest updates. I would just keep my nexus 5, but the battery is trash.

Ya it sounded a bit optimistic...

At any rate though, if a Note 2 + semi-thin case equates to how the N6 feels in the hand in terms of thickness and width, I think for me personally it won't be a huge deal, even if I choose to put a case on it. I was just relieved when I realised this because before actually doing the math and comparing to my Note 2, I had read the measurements as being much worse than they actually are. I can definitely see how the N6 will be too chunky for many though.

The battery of the N5 was not that great when I had it.
But the N6 really sounds like a beast of a phone!
But so is the Z3c......2 day battery life and a great camera!

It sounds like a perfect fit for what you will use it for after reading in the other thread. I am a little jealous of you guys getting the N6! But i have the N4 coming and that might be too big for me.......
Anyway would love to read your thoughts on the N6 after you get one! :)

Yeah I think it will be good for me. But I guess it's all theorycrafting until I actually get one in my hands. I'll def post my thoughts on it but I reckon it'll be a while before I can get one in Sweden. Currently consulting my wallet to see if I will buy a Note 4 anyway and then sell it when the N6 comes out if I prefer that then, I've been getting all riled up about the N4 for ages now so I'd feel like such an anticlimax not to actually get it... Would be great to read your thoughts on the N4 when you get it as well :)

It's not only very tall, it's also very wide. Both together make this phone really hard to handle. And then add a case... because you're not gonna have a 650€ phone without a case, right?

Besides it not having TouchWiz, and it getting quicker updates, what is the other benefit of Pure Android? Does it still need to be rooted for additional functionality? What can you do with custom ROMs?

Thanks.

pure Android is how google intended it. Touchwiz and HTC Sense (to name a few) are different takes on how Android should look, and also allow these manufacturers to add their selling points to the phone.

Years ago, stock android was basic. It worked but lacked many options and thats where the Samsung and HTC and others added their bells. These days stock android is just about as good as it gets and I don't think that Touchwiz or Sense add much above what stock can deliver.

Rooting your phone is to get some extra control over how the phone works but again only a small minority of users actually need root (read power users). Custom roms always come with root and tweak it a more to add additional options.

I've been down the road or rooting and custom roms and you can play all day changing to this rom or that framework or whatever. These days I just stick with what the phone comes with and am more than happy.

TW is just so heavily embedded into samsung phones. Yes, you can change the look and feel of the home pages and app drawer, but the settings menu still looks like a disaster to me personally.

It is just a much "cleaner" experience with a nexus for a lot of people.

It seems like the bezel is so small that there are no buttons on it, is that correct? If so, how do you use home, back, etc. if they only display on the screen?

I dunno, somewhere in West Texas
The 2 camps will never be satisfied; those who prefer smaller devices to phablets. As a proponent for the latter I will say in its defense that the nexus program has so far catered to everyone but us, so therefore the Nexus 6 is a step in that direction.

Does it mean all future Nexus devices will be this large? I doubt it. Just that Google would like to play in this arena and see what kind of foothold they can attain. I've been asking for a larger screened pure android device for years, and I'm glad they finally listened.

They use on-screen buttons. They take up around .3" of the screen size. When you watch videos or use certain apps they completely go away, and you swipe down from the top to bring the buttons back up.
