That's a fair point, but remember this is a phone. For a lot of us, this was meant to be our Nexus 5 replacement (I know, I went iPhone, but I thought about it a long time). Problem is, this isn't exactly the affordable option we had considered.

Exactly the Nexus line played a great role in recent years for people switching from other OSs. It was affordable and powerful enough to give an honest and clean Android experience for first-timers.

Having said that and having my own reservations about the price, I think I'll end up getting it if the European price is the same as found in that German retailer inventory image. I'll try it and if I don't like it, Google has a two week return policy.

True, it is quite a paradigm shift for Nexus phones and I can see how those who'd want to upgrade from Nexus 5 got something that might not even be in their ballpark. Being an egoist though, I am happy because the N5 was too small for me and now I'm happy to be able to be truly interested in a Nexus device

I cut a piece of cardboard to the size of the Nexus 6. It fits in my pocket while standing, but it feels very tight when sitting. I'm afraid I'd break a phone that size in my pocket.

Those of you who plan on getting the Nexus 6: How do you plan to carry it?

The problem for me is the Nexus line was always the fall back, off contract formidable phone to own for a great price.
Now that is gone and the OnePlusOne takes that title and they might be celebrating this price and release.

They easily become the best phone off contract if you want to jump into Android IMO.

For clarification I read about bendgate on the net. At that point suddenly I realized it wasn't a joke that was going around work, that very day my brother called expressing his shock to find his iP6+ bent.

Yet even at that he could have simply got a bad phone. That's why they have warranties. I don't make snap decisions.

The reason I sold mine, was I brought it to work where I'd have time later to activate it and do my usual setup. A guy literally offered twice what I paid for it, much to my surprise, so I sold it fast and decided to repeat that money making opportunity.

Fair enough!

I want the Nexus 6 now, is that bad? :p

No seriously. The Nexus 6 has an amazing battery which is one thing that was lacking on my current phone and I've lived without continuity before so I won't be missing out too much.

I bet One+ is jumping for joy. This easily made them the "new nexus"

The Nexus line always had certain hardware flaws but at it's previous price point, most people could live with it.

At this price point, it better compete (and surpass) the current flagships in the phone market.

Price and screen size are really making it hard to consider this phone.

If it was a 5.2" Nexus at $650, maybe.

Or 6" Nexus at $499, maybe.

But 6" Nexus at $650 is :(

Could not agree with you more. I was only considering this giant beast b.c it would be a pure android phone around $450 unlocked. I hated the size, but couldn't pass the price.

I now am seriously considering the Oneplus or will just the the Z3C

That'll be a logistical nightmare for the mass consumers.

So true. If OPO is moving in the right direction with their pre-order system and turning a corner they have the opportunity to really become the standard in this price point. But thats a big IF with how the invite system and the mess that ensued.

I imagine there are a few hungry Chinese companies anxious to take the old Nexus's pricing point

How much screen space do those non-physical buttons take up?

I feel like those essentially make the screen smaller when doing things like browse the web, because as far as I have seen on other phones with them, you cant hide them unless its video playback or something which wouldnt require them.

Maybe I am wrong.

I don't get all the outrage. If you want a smaller stock-like android device, go buy the moto x 2014. It's almost a GPE version and gets updated fast.

If you want a nice big phablet, get the nexus 6.
Moto X 2014 is not an option because of weak battery life. Also it's not as development friendly as the Nexus line.

As others have said, the OnePlus is still a great alternative. The price just got even better after seeing how much the Nexus 6 costs, and it's got a similar camera, battery, RAM, storage, etc.

Meh... it is nice but I don't think I want a phone bigger than the Note 4. Phone is big!!! I won't mind toying with one in the store, but I know I should be comfortable using the Note 4.

So that essentially makes this a 5.7 inch screen when using web broswer, etc.

That just makes me want to get the note 4, considerign the size difference.

Edit: Also i really dont get the price backlash that I have been reading about it too.... I get the whole "nexus is supposed to be cheaper argument", but this phone has pretty beast specs so whats the problem

Well anything that uses Immersion mode would make the buttons disappear, so that space would be reclaimed. The real question is will Google offer Immersion mode for Chrome.

Yeah and this where my concern is, because on every phone I have seen with these buttons, the buttons stay there when browsing the web, and any other app i guess that doesnt use what you call the "immersion mode".

For me, personally, I dont watch a ton of videos on my phone. The occasional youtube here and there but no full length films to me. So if indeed immersion mode doesnt work on the web browsing and things like that, it would essentially boil down to a 5.6-5.7 inch screen.

I have a 6 plus, and have been really considering switching to Android for a year (I have ATT Next). I have only had iPhones up to this point.

I was waiting for the Nexus 6 announcement to make my decision between that and the note 4, and im still a bit unsure. The buttons really does turn me off of it as for my primary usage, it seems they would be there and make the screen about the same size as the note 4, but on a significantly larger phone.

I guess I could always get the note 4, and if i change my mind in 14 days just return it.

Hmm not sure about that one. I mean, a 6" QHD device which is still quite a bit cheaper than the Note 4 is pretty good value in my book. But then this is assuming the camera and battery life are at least good, and also I personally value maximum screen size very highly.

I see SD card plus removable battery strong plus for Note 4
would i be in Samsung shoes, i also would decrease Note pricepoint very soon because of stacking competitors

You can't go wrong with the OnePlus at it's price point - I have one as my daily driver and love it.

But... it can be a tiny bit glitchy, and it won't be getting Lollipop for many months (assuming it actually does end up getting it). So, there's that.

The Nexus went from a phone that made some compromises but was almost half as expensive as current flagships to something that now costs as much and competes directly with flagships.

The problem is that they kept around the N5 instead of offering a 5.2" N6 in the $350-$400 range. On one hand it's good they kept the N5 around. But it would have been better if they made the N6 in a 5.2" variety IMO.

Keeping N5 is good strategy as it brings various display sizes BUT N5 specs are out dated now AND price point is not competitive anymore (cf OPO)
