True, it would mean that the Nexus line is not-quite-as-cheap as it has been until now. It could mean that they're investing a bit more in camera/speakers etc. though. In that case I would personally consider the price increase wort it.

Actually given a 6" screen in the rumoured footprint size makes me drool so much that I'd almost buy it even if it cost as much as a Note 4, so I'll pretty much consider any positive price difference to be a pure bonus.

price of 32 GB version is 649 USD, fair to think 64GB will reach 700 USD, with no SD slot...
I will not be surprised if Note 4 ends up being cheaper by Christmas time...

People do realize only 2 of the 6 Nexus phones were sold at a loss in the $349 range, the other four Nexus phones were standard flagship pricing of the day.

Nexus-One was like approx. $550
Nexus-S $600
Galaxy Nexus $650 ( Then six months later dropped to $399 )
Nexus 4 $349
Nexus 5 $349
Nexus 6 $650

IPhone 6 bill of material is circa at 250 USD, do you really think Google was losing money selling Nexus phones at 349 USD each with no distribution network to support?

As many have said, I'll need to see it in person too before deciding.

But once the genie is out of the bottle...Even at those "loss" prices, neither the 4 nor 5 were huge sellers, were they? With the price going back up, the 6 seems even more like a proof of concept than a viable product.

It is possible the 6 would have been cheaper if it were not available on contract. I notice you can't get the Nexus 5 with on contract pricing (at least in the US).

As much as i hate to say this, looks like i wont be getting the nexus 6.

with all the rumours i was still hoping that they would release two versions. One 5.9" and one 5.0" or 5.2".. But the tablet looks sweet.

I don't get all the outrage. If you want a smaller stock-like android device, go buy the moto x 2014. It's almost a GPE version and gets updated fast.

If you want a nice big phablet, get the nexus 6.

I just got the G3 yesterday, but I do know that the Nexus 6 is not a viable option for me to jump to until 2015. Wi-Fi Calling is essential to my T-Mobile service, so I am better off with my G3. I am excited to see it's water resistance. Should be the best phone available on the market. It will beat the Note 4 and iPhone 6+.

There is also the Droid Turbo coming in two weeks. There will be a Verizon and AT&T version of it. With a 5.2-inch QHD screen, it should be nice. Not completely stock, but close to it.

Good. A nicer option for those looking to get a smaller screen. I guess both the Moto X and Droid Turbo are meant to be for the smaller screen size crowd to an extent. I feel like the Nexus 6 might be too big for me even though I have the LG G3 lol.

Late success of Nexus handsets was 99% from sweet price tag.
Why go for a Moto or Nexus phone when there is NO price advantage and NO sd card slot / removable battery ?
Strategic positioning is extremely awkward, jumbo battery would have been nice but it is a miss as well...

Your logic for arriving at these rankings confounds me. But to each his own.

The price just makes it easier to wait and see it in store. The good news is I can buy it from T-mobile directly (like the nexus 5) and make payments if need be. It is a giant, giant phone though.

Also a big concern is the fact they are only toting 24 hours battery life. I think my nexus 5 has the same slogan, yet gets 12-13 with light use.

The 2014 moto x is $549 off contract

Is anyone truly surprised a bigger, faster, higher resolution device with potentially more storage is priced a tad higher than the Moto X 2014?

A 5.9" device won't be everyone's cup of tea, those interested in a big phabley will be comparing to other phablets, and in that regard the Nexus 6 still comes off $250 cheaper than much of the competition...

I do not understand why they only went with a 6" device however. A 5" device updated specs / improved battery to replace the Nexus 5 would sure have had a greater potential audience.

I know the specs are worthy of the price increase, but Google has not been about that with the Nexus line for the past couple of years. The Nexus 5 had top of the line specs, but you could get one for almost a contract price at $350. When you get people use to that kind of pricing. It's very hard to tell them all these great specs lead to a large price tag. People expect more for less with the Nexus line.

I have a feeling putting it on contract with major US carriers was their way of making saying you can get if for cheaper. This just may put a lot of people off. I for sure will not be buying it. Had ever Nexus except the Nexus One, but the price is just too much to have a second phone. The iPhone 6+ will just have to be it for this year.

What screen is the Nexus 6 using ? Says it a 1440p AMOLED, and the only phone with that same type of screen is the Samsung Note 4, they don't both share the same screen tech do they ?

Price and screen size are really making it hard to consider this phone.

If it was a 5.2" Nexus at $650, maybe.

Or 6" Nexus at $499, maybe.

But 6" Nexus at $650 is :(

That's for my user experience. I feel like iOS and Samsung cripple them with compounding bugs and glitches. HTC didn't provide me with that great of an experience because of a LED issue and camera issues. LG really outdid themselves this year.

Yes, they both use Amoled screens. The Moto X featured an Amoled screen too. It might be done differently because of UIs, panel manufacturers, etc. Just because the display quality is the same doesn't mean they should project the same images at the same quality. It's what they use the materials that determine what happens.

The Nexus program was once a luxury. Those days are over. That's fine, it's still probably one of the best Android devices on the market, but it's certainly not the best phone for the price anymore.

Hmm not sure about that one. I mean, a 6" QHD device which is still quite a bit cheaper than the Note 4 is pretty good value in my book. But then this is assuming the camera and battery life are at least good, and also I personally value maximum screen size very highly.

The Nexus went from a phone that made some compromises but was almost half as expensive as current flagships to something that now costs as much and competes directly with flagships.

The problem is that they kept around the N5 instead of offering a 5.2" N6 in the $350-$400 range. On one hand it's good they kept the N5 around. But it would have been better if they made the N6 in a 5.2" variety IMO.

That's a fair point, but remember this is a phone. For a lot of us, this was meant to be our Nexus 5 replacement (I know, I went iPhone, but I thought about it a long time). Problem is, this isn't exactly the affordable option we had considered.

What.....

How does this relate to my post? I said I'm getting the normal 6....

Also, that being issue way way overblown and I personally feel it wasn't a smart move to sell the + because of something you heard on the internet.
For clarification I read about bendgate on the net. At that point suddenly I realized it wasn't a joke that was going around work, that very day my brother called expressing his shock to find his iP6+ bent.

Yet even at that he could have simply got a bad phone. That's why they have warranties. I don't make snap decisions.

The reason I sold mine, was I brought it to work where I'd have time later to activate it and do my usual setup. A guy literally offered twice what I paid for it, much to my surprise, so I sold it fast and decided to repeat that money making opportunity.
