I don't necessarily disagree with that article.

At this point in time, the Pixel devices are hard to find (is there still a 5 week backorder waiting period to receive certain models?), overpriced, and lack a few important and useful features in a rather uninspiring design. I'm also of the opinion that stock Android is a bit too barebones.

Of course, these are simply first-generation issues, and I think there is an enormous amount of potential for the Pixel 2.

And you guys make good points in support of the Pixel. That's the beauty of the Android world: choice. :)

Interesting article from androidpolice about the Pixel. Not entirely sure I agree with everything that the guy is saying.

Sure, I agree that the design of the Pixel feels very 'first gen' what with the bezels, lack of water proofing etc, but it's only very recently that the iPhone got the water/dust resistant thing.

I agree with him on price, I think it is astounding that they're charging what they are for it, even if it is the definitive Android experience to many / most.

But the one thing that strikes me is him saying about the S8 and how anyone torn between the 2 phones should always buy the Samsung. He then goes on to say his preferred device to use is the Pixel, but it doesn't mean he'd recommend buying one.
Odd.

I guess most people would say the same about the BB KEYone. Not many would buy it to use personally with the plethora of other Android devices out there that cost similar money and do more under the hood.

But it's down to the user, and the experience that the user wants. There's way too many tech journalists telling people what is right for them these days based off their own preferences.

Given the chance i'd likely buy a Pixel XL tomorrow. And probably prefer it over the S8 myself.

Land Rover v Range Rover

I'd buy a defender in a heartbeat but I wouldn't recommend one to my wife

Never understood this argument. It competes with the iPhone of today, not the iPhone of years back.

So the first of June I'll be giving my Pixel to my daughter since she's up for a new phone and I'm headed back to the states for a couple years.

Back on my Nexus 6 which does make me kinda happy because I love that big screen

Ok I am back using my XL for the time being and I am noticing an annoying issue, when I am on a call the screen is blacked out even if I pull the phone away from my face and I cant get the screen on

Reboot and see if it fixes it.

Does the person on the other line hear you when this happens?

The Pixel I had also had this problem where the screen would get wonky. The person on the other end wouldn't hear me either.

Does your phone randomly reboot at all?

I think there is something wrong with my Pixel camera, I took this pic of a car I am selling and look at the trees in the background, it looks horrible. It was taken in auto setting with hdr

Was it windy ? Looks like the stitching if the three shots as caused blurriness because of the trees rustling.

From where?
I'd be tempted to upgrade to the XL at that price!

Gumtree. I'm always a little bit dubious with Gumtree but as it's a seller close to me I would have obviously seen the phone before parting with any cash.

I've decided not to bother though. As good a price as it is, it doesn't make sense for me to add another device to my current crop as it'll likely just cause me more of a headache.

Just bought a Pixel XL on swappa for a good price. I've been wanting to try this phone for a while, but between supply limits and general satisfaction with my 7+, just hadn't happened. Until now.
Phone should arrive on Thursday. Can't wait to try it out.

Do post your thoughts when you get it, love to know how you find it. :)

Anyone else tempted to pick one of these up to try Android O beta? I've been following prices on 2nd hand ones and they are holding their values very well. I'm miffed though that they released a 32gb model with no external memory storage.

I have been running the Android O preview on my Pixel XL. So far so good. A couple app crashes but that is to be expected but it is pretty smooth for a beta.
Yeah they should have a 64GB model.....anymore 32GB is just a little tight with no SD card.

That picture in picture looks amazing! How do you like the beta otherwise?

It is very smooth......I like the PIP and the new battery percentage feature :). I used my Pixel XL as my daily driver the last couple of days and forgot I was running the beta. Everything ran as normal. But my battery life seemed to suffer a little. But that might just be the beta.
It's so easy to enroll into the beta program as they send you the beta as an OTA. But some have had issues unenrolling from the beta program. They are supposed to send another stock image OTA but some aren't getting it and have to flash manually.
