Is it possible that that half-glass(??) back allows for some form of wireless charging? A bit weird looking, but interesting to consider.

It's a weird look so far. And with the recently leaked specs, too, my feelings for the Nexus devices this year is becoming tepid.

Not surprised at all it doesn't look like the HTC 10. Looks a bit more like the A9 no? I really like the Nexus phone designs. They are little bit quirky usually. Sets them apart imo.

Looks like a trimmed down 6P without the camera visor (but like a glass half now?). Guessing that is just for the radios and whatnot.

Actually, now that I think about it, it would seem like a natural progression (is that the right word?) from the 6P visor, which was also glass, right?

Seems a bit off center for that. We'll see. Visor looked weird on the 2015 renders and leaks too at first. But looks nice in person. Not too worried here.

If this is real, I feel like the design will once again be interesting, but polarizing, much like the 6P. Some people loved the visor/bump, others hated it.

They were pretty right on with their sources on the 6P renders and news. And everyone laughed at those at first too.

I honestly think if your going to go that far down with the glass, just go the whole hog and make it look more aesthetically pleasing.

Guessing they wanted to completely flatten out the back and get rid of the hump. 6P has that plastic section at the bottom too, so maybe they moved all radios to the top and rest is just battery.

For the plastic/glass going all the way down, I dunno, google just wants to be different?

I actually like two-tone and/or contrasting stuff in fashion. Like the pics below: the shirt from Jcrew with contrasting pocket color, or sunglasses from Warby Parker. Something about two-tone is pretty cool.

But for a smartphone design? I don't know. A little weird, but could be interesting. Like I said, I just hope it has more function than just radios and NFC or whatever. I'm really hoping for wireless charging of some form.

How would any docks with wireless charging work that high up? Especially with a FP sensor on the back? Never had one, so genuinely curious.

The other take is that the leaks really did hurt the 6P from the start because the did make the visor look VERY big... and it was not as bad in person. So maybe Google is playing one on the press. But two months or so out from announce? I'm inclined to believe this.

I wasn't if it looked just like an HTC 10 (already have it). But for something different like this, absolutely. Love the 6P look. This is just another level. I am a bit skeptical... it is a render. But yes, I would buy this.... first day.

Yeah, I don't know. It likely isn't for wireless charging.

But is it just for aesthetics? If so, not sure. Very... what's the word... dramatic design.

To be fair, it's just a rendering created based on description from what Android Police call a "reliable source." The final product could look a lot better. As you said, the 6P went through the same thing. People can change their mind and final devices could look better.

Just trying to help out a fellow addict. Save someone from buying a device they don't like, what twice now, and still not like it? I can intervene. I am a good guy.

Just so everyone doesnt get too carried away. We have to remember this isnt a leaked render. It's a mockup of what Android Police predict it may look like. Thats a good distance away from being anything definitive.
