Point is it IS water resistant and has image stabilization. Bunch of whiners on the internet.

It sounds like it's using the gyro to compensate in software while shooting video - it doesn't apply to still images.

That's a rather large difference than actual image stabilization that keeps the lens glass steady by moving the elements.

Not going to argue with you look at all the techsites it's been stated that it isn't so if you still don't believe it, tough luck for you.

First time I've read about a "video score" benchmark

Are the phones waterproof?

They’re water resistant

Direct from Google. It is water resistant.

Never had any issue at all on stills with my 6P. Always clear as can be, even with an infant. Video is swimmy, but for sure the gyroscope stabilization will improve on this.

The Sony Sensor is hands down the nicest we have seen. Can't wait to have it in my hands.

That's fine and all, but don't try to claim it has OIS.

AP is the source saying Pixel phones have IP53 rating. Google isn't stating that in the specs, though, so I'd be hesitant to call them water resistant in any meaningful use of the word.

http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/0...ning-no-dunking-your-pixel-or-hosing-it-down/

It's about as water resistant as any other recent smartphone is. (HTC devices in recent years have also been IPx3.) That would be fine for a $399 phone in 2016, but they're charging a premium price and going up against Samsung and Apple, so it's only fair to compare it against its competitors.

Perhaps. I live in a rainy area. Never had an issue. Don't swim or shower with my phone, that is weird. If I ever do get water damage, I'll just exchange it under the protection plan. So whatever....nice to have feature for sure. But also makes for crappy speakers and exploding batteries.

The S7 battery didn't explode. And we can't assume the Pixel has good speakers either.

Believe what you want fanboy, almost every phone has IP 53 like someone said. It's not the same as IP 68. Anyhow keep arguing.

OK basher, it is still water resistant no mater how you spin it. Is it waterproof, no. Is it IP 68, no. Is it water resistant, yes. You said it wasn't water resistant and it is. If you would have say IP 68 or waterproof, then you would have been right.

It's exclusive to the Verizon as far as carrier stores go. You can purchase it unlocked online and probably through places like Best Buy.

Android 7.1 coming to current Nexus devices and Pixel C, will land before the end of 2016 as a dev preview
http://www.androidpolice.com/2016/1...vices-pixel-c-will-land-end-2016-dev-preview/

So let me get this straight, the brand new Pixel phones launch in October with Android 7.1 obviously, but last years top of the line Google phone, the Nexus 6P will get a beta of 7.1 in December, and the final release of 7.1 sometime next year ? WTF Google ? What happened to Nexus devices being so quick to get fast Android updates ? Now just the newest phones get it, and last years devices already have a long wait ?

I am no iPhone fan, but god damn Apple does updates right, The new iPhone 7 launched with iOS 10, and then a crap load of older iPhone's also got the same iOS 10 update, like just one week later.

For the record, this isn't a bad phone to buy. It isn't the greatest hardware, but it doesn't have to be. A person should buy this based on the software experience.

After having the afternoon to digest today's events, have to say it really does look like Google is trying to mirror the Apple business model. I personally like being able to have as many of my devices as possible within one ecosystem as I find the synergies afforded to be a huge benefit--especially when you're dealing with family members as well, so I (mostly) welcome the direction Google is taking. Google has the best overall suite of services and having top notch hardware to run it as Google intended has alway been a hope of mine.

That being said, I do find some elements of the new direction a bit troubling. As someone who prefers what we consider to be 'stock' Android, I think we're seeing the end of having hardware with that experience. As someone else pointed out earlier, the Pixel isn't just running a launcher over the top--it's really seems more akin to a skin imbedding into the OS like any other OEM would implement. The Pixel phones seem to be shaping up to literally be the Android equivalent of Apple's iPhone and its associated ecosystem. I like the prospect of Google exerting a bit more control over their OS but at the same time, it seems to be counter to everything Android has been up to this point. I'm honestly a bit torn and not exactly sure what to think.

I did preorder a Pixel XL 128GB and won't be cancelling my order as I'm genuinely curious to see how it stacks up against my 6S+ and 6P---will try to put together my own informal comparison but I am slightly questioning whether it really is a worthwhile purchase.

People like me on T-Mobile's JoD plan, are ****ed if they want a Pixel phone.

And for some dumb unknown reason Google says Verizon would be a great carrier to team up with. WTF ? They're the worst, and have even admitted to locking it doen already.

The Project Fi carriers are T-Mobile and Sprint. Those two would've made more sense to launch it with carrier wise, than the Nazi Verizon ****s.

Oh well, looks like my next upgrade on JoD might be an iPhone 7 Plus, ( and i hate the iPhone ) once a Jailbreak

You did the same rant all over here and XDA last year when the 6P wasn't on JOD. Shouldn't be a big surprise at this point.

I finally caved and bought the 64GB 6P for $499 in late winter. Great price for a great phone. But $800+ for the Pixel, LOL not aF'ing chance.

Then finance it on the Google store.

Yeah i could, but just not into spending $800+ for a cell phone. And i am very satisfied with my Nexus 6P still.

I'd maybe get the iPhone 7 Plus on JoD just to try something different.
