People like me on T-Mobile's JoD plan, are ****ed if they want a Pixel phone.

And for some dumb unknown reason Google says Verizon would be a great carrier to team up with. WTF ? They're the worst, and have even admitted to locking it doen already.

The Project Fi carriers are T-Mobile and Sprint. Those two would've made more sense to launch it with carrier wise, than the Nazi Verizon ****s.

Oh well, looks like my next upgrade on JoD might be an iPhone 7 Plus, ( and i hate the iPhone ) once a Jailbreak

I don't understand. Because they are not offering JOD for T-Mobile this a terrible release? You can finance the phone with Google which is the same thing, or use Fi. It being on Verizon means jack. Just means you will get a locked down phone and can finance through a carrier and not Google. I would prefer Google.

Yeah i could, but just not into spending $800+ for a cell phone. And i am very satisfied with my Nexus 6P still.

I'd maybe get the iPhone 7 Plus on JoD just to try something different.

Then the cost is the problem right? Not that it's on Verizon? Either way the phone is $800. If it had been on JOB, you would have been financing the $800. You are going to be financing more with the 7+.

I happily spent the $499 on my Nexus 6P awhile back, and I really love this phone. Now do I want to spend another $800+ to get a slightly better Nexus phone in this new Pixel XL ? Not really, as I don't think that new $800 phone will be radically different and a major upgrade over my current 6P running 7.0. Yeah the Pixel XL is a cool phone, but is it $800 better than my 6P ? In my opinion no.

Now if your rocking an older phone like the Motorola Nexus 6 or some Note 4 or something, then yeah the Pixel XL is a fantastic and smart upgrade path.

And the carrier thing, since I'm already on JoD, I don't want to fiance this Pixel through Google, as that then defeats the purpose of me being on JoD with T-Mobile. I may just get of JoD next year altogether though, as it's looking like that's only good for three types of phones now, iPhone, Galaxy, and LG.

They offer something for everyone, and Verizon has worked with them before. I just don't understand you being upset if $800 was too much. Even if T-Mobile had the phone, it would still be $800.

Watch this video, these phones actually look Fugly :( They look cheap, and weird in a bad way. I find the 6P a much cleaner more polished and higher end looking phone than these Pixel's. And what's the purpose of that strange glass panel on the upper half, seems to serve no purpose, but just look ugly, and the Jay Leno chin ? WTF this is 2016, chins should be gone, and more screen less bezel.

So the very berry blue or whatever is beautiful but not available of Project Fi. So silver has been ordered. Oct 19th I am guessing for delivery. Same as last year I believe.

Hey @Tig Bitties take your comments to the 6P thread. Enjoy your old phone.

The new Pixel phones #madebygoogle support have #USB #TypeC ports, and for the first time in one of Google's phones, support USB Power Delivery as well!

Both phones support higher voltage (up to 9V), and higher power, up to 18W. In addition, both phones support USB PD's data-role and power-role swaps, meaning they'll work with charge-through hubs.

I worked on both phone a bit as a consultant to the excellent Pixel software team.

- Screen looks awesome. Better than 6p. Will compare against S7 today for you.
- As bright as the Samsung in daylight
- I've used a lot of nexus devices previously and early model don't xperia phones. Battery life is quite impressive. The speed of charging.... Just wrote. 15 minute charge and you do actually get 6-7 hours use. I'd class myself as a heavy user.
-Camera quality is seriously good. Nexus 6p had a great camera but this is next level. Low light photos are the best I've seen in any phone. Haven't tested speaker loudness for music. But loud speaker conversations are clear.
-Yet to miss anything from my 6p. Pixel feels better, is faster and camera is better. So yeah nothing yet
- UFS 2.0
- I think this is actually a phone that is equal with apples build quality and feel. Apple make phones feel damn good....this is as good
- Swipe down on the fingerprint sensor is great
- Not hot (unless on day of car). Fastest phone I've used

Actually I created this thread many months ago, so I'll stay here. Have fun with an overpriced HTC phone, running a Pixel launcher.

R.I.P. Nexus :(

You are just dismissing the massive amounts of improvements under the hood. In every way this phone is leaps better than the 6P. This is the ultimate no comprises google phone. But just keep complaining, whatever.

By the way, HTC had nothing to do with the phone other than their line being used to build it. The brand is nowhere to be found.

But keep on trying to feel better.

And maybe I should make another thread where you don't just keep complaining.

I thinks he's upset because it's exclusive to Verizon, which means it's not available on his JoD plan on T-Mobile. If your unaware, this plan let's you swap phones 3 times a year, so you never pay the full price, but you also never keep the phone as long as you keep upgrading.

Since its not available for his JoD plan, he would have to pay full price, and even if financed through Google it would be an additional phone payment along with his JoD plan. And he feels that price is just to high to justify. Which I kind of agree. Samsung gives you a ton of features to justify their high price. Apple provides a robust ecosystem of not only 1st party apps and services, but also 3rd party apps and accessories, not to mention one of the best customer services. What exactly do you get from the pixels premium price? Stock Android and fast updates. And thats fine if thats worth it for you, but to me at that price I would rather have the better hardware, better ecosystem, better CS, and extra features from the other 2 OEMs I mentioned.

I actually kind of like the look, minus the bezel size. Plus it's HTC, so I know in hand it should feel great. Agree with you on the pricing, and a major bummer it's only coming out on Verizon.

What makes the Pixel phones interesting, to me, is the relative lack of technical compromise. They have a fast processor. A fast camera (with improved and quicker HDR+). Fast storage (UFS 2.0). A fast fingerprint scanner. Fast software (they really are blazing-quick). Fast charging. Fast updates (seamless updates). A fast GPU (for VR). There is little about these phones you can point to and say Google cheaped out on. And isn't that what so many of us have been demanding for years? A Google phone that could be positioned against the iPhone as legitimate competition (even if the iPhone does have its advantages - and disadvantages).

Apparently the phones are IP53 -- pretty much what every normal phone has been for years -- and water resistance is not something listed in the official specs for that reason. I'd be very concerned going back to something less than what I have now (IP68). I often use my phone while standing out in the rain without concern for the device. I'm not willing to give that up.

For video I have never seen EIS that is as good as OIS. Even on the S7 if you turn on the additional digital stabilization the picture is actually worse, and cropped. You lose focal length when recording video with software stabilization. On the S7 if you turn off EIS you still have the OIS to help stabilize it.
Eis on iphones was on par with galaxies ois IMO.

No more BS, I am being totally serious here, please.

Listen, I am not knocking the Pixel XL phone itself,m yeah it's a kick ass piece of hardware for sure. Great processor, great camera, great display, etc... yes that's awesome Google finally did it all right. But the $800 price tag just seems off for a Google phone for some reason. Google used to purposely lower the price of Nexus phones, and still have flagship specs. Yeah maybe the camera sucked or poor display, but everything else was always top notch flagship hardware for it's day, sold at budget price.

The Nexus 4 was round $349 at launch, and it had flagship specs for it's day, same hardware inside as the $700 Note 2 at the time.

The Nexus 5 was $399 at launch, again same hardware inside as the flagship Galaxy S4 at the time selling for $650.

Yeah maybe it didn't have the best cameras as those other flagships, but that's not worth 100% higher double price just for a better camera. Point is Google was purposely selling the Nexus phones at a loss for developers. Now they aren't doing that anymore.

But it's still missing;

- No water resistance
- No wireless charging
- No OIS

I still think the iPhone and Galaxy phones should be tad more premium priced, and the Pixel a notch below, in like the $599 price range IMO.

And the carrier thing, I just hate exclusives. Either put it out on all the major U.S carriers, or don't put it on any them at all. But a Verizon only thing is just stupid IMO. And I don't mean for me to be able to get in T-Mobile, it's just on principle, an exclusive carrier release only for such a important phone launch is idiotic, and makes no sense, like Google isn't serious.

Would Samsung put the S8 out on ATT only, and no other carriers ? Would Apple release the iPhone 7S on Sprint only and no one else ? Of course not, they want to sell as many phones possible, and will put it in every carrier store possible. So if Google is trying to play the same game as the iPhone's and Galaxy's, well then the game is played in carrier stores too, all of them.

This launch just seems strange to me from Google, very confusing. A Verizon exclusive, and $800 pricing. I don't get it. Like they wann play the Apple + Samsung game, but they don't. Which is it ?

I have a 6p however I actually really like the look of the pixels. I was one that loved the visor on the 6p. I like the unique look. I think the pixels look better than the 6p from the back.. Not a fan of white on the front or the bezels.

If they ever go on sale for 600 I would probably upgrade.

Ok so he's pissed because he can't use JoD. I got that from his second post. The thing is if he had it on T-Mobile, he either pays full price or he keeps it until he gets tired of it and moves on. You say your not playing full price, but in the end you are paying the plan payment for whatever phone you have. In two years, that adds up to the cost of a phone right? If not more. Sure you are switching phones, but you never get to keep them in the end. You are paying for something you can't keep. With Googles finance, you get something in the end. That makes a ton more sense to me then JoD. Your just giving T-Mobile a crap ton of money every year, and they still make money off those devices you don't keep.

I get if you don't think it's worth $800, but don't cry when it's on another carrier, but you say you don't want to pay $800. In the end all the carriers are making you pay full price or more.

No someone intelligent does not get it. Your crying about it being on Verizon (by the way I could careless about the carrier because I am on Att and I am not getting an android phone), but yet if it's on T-Mobile you will still have the $800 price tag or JoD. Your paying how much extra for the phone on your bill? In the end your going to be paying over $800 even if you switch from phone to phone. The carries know what they are doing. They are not letting you lease a phone for free.
