Almost two months in and my XL is rolling along, no hiccups, and never misses a beat. Rock steady.

First phone in a long time (15+ this year) that makes me not want to jump to the next new release or miss something I used to have.

Ultra reliable camera with great results, silky smooth software and astounding battery - no need to disable or turn anything off.

Must say it's nice to have a (mostly) metal phone again after a few shattered glass devices from minor drops. I feel OK without a case on but have skinned it.

I've even grown to like the chin which means my thumb doesn't have to stretch all the way down for something.

Consistently 5 hours on pure 4G or 7 on WiFi.

Hopefully one of HTC, LG, and Samsung have something ultra compelling in Q1/2 or I may have to keep this.

There really is a lot of little things with the Pixel that you love that adds up to the whole. It's seriously grown on me.

One thing that's annoying is the VR experience - specifically overheating.

Doesn't matter if it's watching YT, looking around Hello Mars, or playing the Need for Speed VR, but after half an hour, the best warning comes up and it's time to stop.

Can't recall if I had this on the S6 and don't have Gear VR any more. Bit of a shame as Daydream is a better implementation but by no means perfect. NfS VR is really immersive when the headphones go on. Just wish I could steer as in VR Karts.

Anyone know if the S7/S7e gets this warning too on the new Gear VR? I'm looking at Qualcomm given their toasty chip history.

My Pixel gets hot during VR but NEVER have I had a warning come up, I've used it well over an hour every time..

Interesting... Yours is the regular size Pixel, right? Wonder if there's a difference due to the display.

I tend to just use it for games like VR Karts, NFS, or other simulation type apps rather than YT or Photos. It usually kicks in eventually.

I've played a fair few games as well but you are right mine is the regular Pixel not XL.

Man I have never seen a Pixel XL available on the Canadian Play Store site.
Wonder when they'll actually be available?

The photos app does not respond to double tap to zoom in/out well. At all. Anyone else?

Another thing? Honestly, the camera isn't that good. The lack of OIS hurts photography.

Mine too, @epicrayban you seem to be having nothing but problems with your Google Pixel, are you sure it's not a dud?

That's possible. But double tap anywhere else works fine and quick and reliably.

It just lags a bit when trying to zoom in out of Photos app. Sometimes it won't even register the double taps until I either try again or in some cases, try multiple times.

Freakin' weird, I know. Photos is updated, too. It seems to happen particularly with photos that haven't been viewed in a while. So I'm wondering if it's just processing. Either way, rather weird and disappointing.

My S7 Edge overheats very quickly if the headset is running on the S7 battery. The Gear VR also gives the option to plug it into the wall, which calms it down quite a bit.

I have to say again how silly it is for Google to not have a dedicated sound/vibrate profile option in their pull down quick setting menu.

If I'm playing music or video via speaker or headphones, I can't change the sound/vibration setting without hitting the volume rockers, then pulling down the full sound sliders, then adjusting the alert slider to ring/vibrate.

That is just stupid. It means I have to change the volume a bit of what I'm playing just to get the option started.

Who at Google thought this was a good idea?

Hello all.

Quick question for you guys.. apologies if this has been already discussed.

I have read about that static noise from the Pixel speaker when on full volume issue.

I can only replicate it on that perfect piano app but other music sources are fine.

Seems like an software issue or even just that app is not fully compatible with the Pixel. Apparently Google is working on a fix?

What do you guys think.. are you guys aware of it? Could it be hardware related?

Just want make sure I understand this before return period expires.

Just an update on my charger issues, I bought one from Anker and it does rapid charge perfectly so I have put the dodgy google one back in the box, very weird and I have no idea what the issue is but at least I know it's not the phone.

So I sold off my XL for a standard size Pixel, and I honestly like it so much more. On paper it's a tad less impressive with the smaller battery and 1080p display, but since the screen is smaller the pixel density is comparable and being 1080p it uses less power and resources so technically the devices are identical which is very impressive.

I have decided to sell my 'quite black' 32gb and buy a 'very silver' 128gb ...

I have the black and love it. I've always been a white phone kind of guy. The white is gorgeous. My dad has that one and every time I see it, it's lovely.

In time, the unique design of the Pixel grows on you. It also helps that it's the most ergonomic friendly device I've ever held.

The smaller Pixel is so incredibly comfortable to hold and use. I love the size and form factor and the practicality of the design.

Apple and Google should cut the bezel size down. Its the only reason I switched from the Plus model.
I love the 5.5 screen but the phone is just too big. Samsung has it right with the size.

Samsung owns the market on manageable and ergonomic phablets. It'll be great to see increased competition from Apple and others on more bezel-less designs. Very much agree.

Do u have led light on when charging.? Anybody using light manager is it normal that its always running on the background?

I've now experienced three issues in total with the Pixel.

New issues:

1. On a call nobody can hear me unless the phone is on speakerphone or if I am using headphones. Somebody else has reported this issue on Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixel/comments/5k15lw/anyone_having_problems_making_phone_calls_with/
2. When I am on a call, occasionally people will report that I will be talking and then they can no longer hear me at all while I can hear them just fine. I don't think this is related to issue 1 as this happened when I was using headphones, the only resolution at this point was to hang up the call, call them again and then they could hear me again. It appears somebody else has/had this issue as well: https://www.reddit.com/r/GooglePixe...ne_else_having_issues_with_audio_cutting_out/

Recap of previous issue:

Using the charger that came with my phone, it would fluctuate being charging and not charging. This was resolved by swapping chargers with my GF. Her phone can use my charger with zero issues at all. And her charger is working absolutely fine for my phone.

Additional thoughts:

While these issues are annoying, they haven't swayed me against the Pixel and back to an iPhone (yet). The Pixel is still an amazing device and I enjoy using it on a daily basis. My GF's pixel is not having any of these issues so it's possible that I may have got a bad Pixel phone. I haven't really ran into issues with phone calls since the iPhone 4 on AT&T, so this is kind of different. I expected quirks by switching to Android but I did not expect any issues with the basic functionality of the phone with calling or with charging the device as those are two extremely important functions of a phone. The software experience of Google's version of Android is still running extremely smooth and haven't ran into any issues there. I'm enjoying the screen, 5.0" 1080p is nice, the rapid charging, the headphone port and the reasonably sized form factor of the smaller Pixel. I will probably wait another month or two, then possibly try the exchange route if I am still experiencing these issues, but hopefully I am not and these can be resolved through a software update.
