As it turns out my Pixel XL wasn't dropping wifi, it was my home network. Noticed the same behavior when I used my iPhone for an evening. So I'm back to original take: this phone is pretty awesome. I've had it for 6 weeksish. No lag, no stutter, no issues whatsoever. Phone becomes more impressive over time as you realize what a workhorse it is.

Does Best Buy not carry the XL anymore ? Their website only lists the small Pixel lately, not the XL.

I'd like to get a white Pixel XL but everyone seems to be out of stock ?

Curious what Google has planned for the Pixel in 2017 ? Release on more carriers now ? Price reduction in Spring ?

Is this Google's or HTC's issue with the Pixel XL being out of stock ?

- Google website store, shows sold out across the board on the XL, just says will e-mail you in the future when available next year.

- Verizon shows it's back ordered for two months !!!

- BestBuy removed the XL version from it's website recently, only selling the small Pixel currently.

So it seems either A; the Pixel XL has been extreme popular, especially on Verizon, with BestBuy and the Carrier stocking them and selling it. Now was it so hot it's just out of stock for a while ? Or B; Is this the typical Google BS with their Nexus line having these same issues before. I recall the Nexus 4 being sold out for like 5 or 6 weeks straight, back around the December January timeframe. Same with the Nexus 5.

Looks like Google's Pixel is continuing the Nexus tradition of very poorly executed product launches.
What a joke, really (at least in Canada).

I understand a hot new phone release will be difficult to get the first month or so after release. Even iPhone's are very hard to get the exact one you want for maybe two months after release. But the Pixel has been out 3 months now, and is out of stock now more than when it first released. Just strange. Is HTC having a hard time keeping up with demand and we're not being told about it publicly ? Or did Google underestimate the demand this phone would have ?

At least it's actually For Sale in your country. The vast majority of the world still have no launch date. I had to buy mine from the UK.

Why Google can't launch better is baffling ...

Good point. And Google wants to be taken seriously as a high end competitor to Apple and Samsung. The phone has been out three months, and is now out of stock for another 4 to 6 weeks still. LOL, good job Google.

Sometimes I think the Nexus and now Pixel line is just some little pet project in the basement at Google's headquarters, with just the ultra nerd team working on it, with like 1% help from the upper brass and management. At the end of the day selling HTC made Google phones isn't making them their billion$.

My Pixel has been sitting in a draw unused for the past week! Probably going to put it on sale on Monday/Tuesday.

Great phone but got an insane deal on a Samsung Gear S3, and coupled with my S7 Edge (which I paid a pittance for) then I've done spectacularly well money-wise.

More than that, the only real issue with my S7 Edge is a bit of lag - hey, I can live with that. Still think it's a great phone and both S7/Pixel are roughly even when push comes to shove.

This will enable me to then go for a Pixel 2017, iPhone 8 or Galaxy S8 when the time comes. I can see those 3 being the dominant high end phones of 2017.

Anyway, happy new year everybody!

I really wish Google would sort the supply situation out. Despite it being a great device, there's much to be said about their ability to get it to customers.

I've been looking for an XL in 128gb and estimates in the UK are mid-February from CPW or just 'wait for an email' from the Google store!

Whilst my 32gb is OK, I've lined up a buyer to move to 128gb. If only Google / HTC rustled up more and quickly.

By contrast, I walked in to an Apple Store and picked up a 7 Plus 256gb in minutes. Not only are they in stock in all variants but I can buy it on their upgrade program at 0% interest without a carrier.

Definite kudos on the Pixel as a device but much to improve in the overall package.

I'm confident the Pixel 2 will be terrific. Google's trajectory from all their Nexus devices into their first Pixel phone is pretty amazing.
Meh....the ONLY reason to get that phone is for faster updates on the OS but it isnt even a concern for me. Everything else about them is frustrating. The cost has gone way up on them...too much than im willing to pay for one, they dont have any in stock and they still arent a recognizable device on airplanes with WiFi.

Screw Nexus phones! Im done. Samsung just has too many features to care about Nexus.....and they are readily available.

S7 edge is not s bad phone...
Slight lag is tolerable...
What i dont like is the curve screen...
Love my note 7... s7 edge curve is too much...
Will hold on to my pixel xl till note8 comes out... or maybe pixel 2 with waterproofing....

Does anyone know why BestBuy officially stopped selling the Pixel XL ? Their website says product discontinued or something ? But they still sell the tiny Pixel.

I went to BB today, asked a cell phone salesperson about the XL he said Best Buy took that product off the system and they no longer offer it.

I asked if they'll get it back in the near future ? He said he wasn't sure.

This sucks, because I got a crap load of BB gift certificates for Christmas and I had a few left over from my Birthday totaling $350 now, and was gonna purchase a Pixel XL outright, but tyry don't sell the phone anymore.

A phone with a 5" screen is tiny? o_O

Yes it is, and a small battery. I'd much rather have the 3,450mAh battery for longer stamina and all day charge.

Here's an idea for smartphone makers, offer the smaller phone with the larger phone's battery., The 5" Pixel with the 3,450mAh battery, yeah the phone would be thicker, but so what.

I'm going to assume it has something to do with the fact that the XL is currently on a 2 month backorder from Google and Verizon.

It really is unbelievable how Google can miscalculate and underestimate how many units they need to produce for stock. I could see when the phone first launched they may have been caught off guard how much of a hit seller this would be.

But it's been out for three months already. They should have a firm grasp where they need to be production wise.

And to have it sold out for 6 to 8 more weeks still. Wow.

Once Sansung releases the Galaxy S8 in March / April, the Pixel line will see a major drop in sales, and will just be the ultra nerd geek phone again like the Nexus phones. The average buying public will for sure be tempted by the new S8.

Even though myself I still prefer a good stock Android phone #1, I'd take a Pixel XL over the S8 Plus phone. But most people won't.

Possibly. I'm curious to see if the Note7 debacle has any blowback on the next big Samsung launch.
