Cancelled my XL order from Google that was set to ship on the 30th of January and picked up the same phone on Swappa that will come with five cases, a glass screen protector and the Daydream VR set for $40 more. AND I get it on Thursday.

Pumped.

Here it is January and every single color/capacity is sold out. How is this still possible? I can't even imagine how many lost sales they've had.

I'm just planning on buying the S8 Edge in a few months. Not wasting anymore time looking to see if they have Pixels in stock.

Once Samsung starts the HUGE ad campaign for the S8, all other Android phones will be screwed.

You know Samsung will spend big $$$ on advertising the Galaxy S8 line, especially after the Note 7 failure.

Google screws up big time now, running out of production now till Feb. And then soon after the S8 announcement and reveal coming up.

Would love to hear what's really going on behind the scenes with the Pixel XL delay and no availability ? And why Best Buy stopped selling and carrying it now.

Just out of curiosity I checked stock availability in the UK.
Ditto on the Google Store.. no XLs of any size or colour available however Carphone Warehouse UK have stock of 32gb XLs in both colours.
Very interesting.
On a side note.. Google are taking their sweet time sending my replacement Pixel?!

It's really weird. How can they be estimating six weeks delivery time for a phone 3-months after release?

Standard size has 128gb available but not the XL which suggests they just majorly failed to anticipate, or react, to demand. But how can they not adjust production priorities with a solid two months of numbers?

Are HTC part to blame? Did they promote it too well (who would have thought this!) versus sales forecasts?

For such a big company with their resources and it being their going solo phone, something just doesn't add up.

Good point. And Google wants to be taken seriously as a high end competitor to Apple and Samsung. The phone has been out three months, and is now out of stock for another 4 to 6 weeks still. LOL, good job Google.

Sometimes I think the Nexus and now Pixel line is just some little pet project in the basement at Google's headquarters, with just the ultra nerd team working on it, with like 1% help from the upper brass and management. At the end of the day selling HTC made Google phones isn't making them their billion$.

This was the case with Nexus but now Google are straight up going the Apple route with the Pixel. Trust me, they will be taking it seriously - you just have to remember this is Year 0 for the Pixel phone, and forget all about the Nexus lineage.

The amount of money in phones is ridiculous if you can crack the market - and Google's aim is for the Pixel to become the iPhone of Android. It may take 3-5 years and of course there is ridiculous competition, but Google are finally going for it (and taking it seriously).

S7 edge is not s bad phone...
Slight lag is tolerable...
What i dont like is the curve screen...
Love my note 7... s7 edge curve is too much...
Will hold on to my pixel xl till note8 comes out... or maybe pixel 2 with waterproofing....

Yeah the curve screen was great on my S6 Edge but it's not quite as good on the S7 Edge. My wife has the flat S7 and tbh I actually prefer it.

The touch issues I was having - well, I got the thinnest clear hard case I could find, and now practically no touch issues.

Got mine.

Gotta say again, love how updates are handled in the background. Truly seamless. Truly "just works."
Thanks for the heads up. Just checked and mine is there too :).

I'm honestly enjoying my pixel experience (great camera, screen, battery, software and no bloat) that I feel truly satisfied android wise.

The extras in Nougat such as splitscreen and minor customisation options for wallpapers and even ability to adjust display scaling means I don't miss what other devices offered me such as my S7 etc..

I look forward to seeing what Samsung do with the S8 in March/April but currently feel utterly stemmed appetite wise.

I'm jealous of those receiving the update, my Pixel has been factory reset and is waiting to get sent to Verizon as I had to have a replacement ordered. When I'm on a call nobody can hear me unless I'm using speakerphone or using headphones (bluetooth or plugged in). Google support said to get the Pixel replaced and Verizon agreed. So I should receive the replacement tomorrow as Verizon is shipping it overnight. It's labeled as "certified like new" so I'm a bit nervous about that, but at least Verizon is able to send it out so quickly.

It's a fine outing for their first generation device.

There's definitely room for improvement (HW and SW wise). I could really point out a lot but they may be construed as nitpicking.

Still, I feel you.
[doublepost=1483508612][/doublepost]In light of the Jan security updates, let me share my opinion on Google updates.

I like them. A lot.

1) Monthly security updates for 3 years. Sounds great.

2) Two years' worth of major OS updates. That usually means two alphabet versions, and a few mini x.x.1 updates. Two years is fair and about as long as I'd keep a phone anyway. If you're on this forum reading this post, I'd wager you're someone who would be itching for a new phone by the two year mark, too.

3) Rolling updates. If there are bugs or issues, not everyone is inflicted right away. It's a bit of a slower process, but I'm all for a little caution. I don't need first round bugs to cause me any hiccups -- small or big -- just to say I get updates on day one.

4) How they do software updates is perfect. Seamlessly downloads in the background, then when ready, notifies you with an option to restart. No need to be on WiFi, no need to sit through misc load times, no fuss. Just works.

And perhaps most importantly:

5) Core app updates via the Play store. This move, I would say, is one of the best decisions Google has made for Android. Gradually migrating most of their core apps to be updated via the Play Store is perfect and helps get new features and general improvements to as many different devices as possible. And they happen rather frequently. If it's not Gmail, then it's Google Maps. If not Maps, Gboard. If not that, YouTube or Keep. Etc. All year long. Your phone's core Google experience gets better and better throughout the year. And this is for as long as your Android OS can support the Play Store, which is usually a very long time.

I'd say this update system earns them a pretty high scorecard.

Those bezels though... And you can customize every Android device, nothing special with the Pixel.

Bezels look worse on the regular Pixel due to the ratio. I also think the white adds to their presence (subjective).

The black XL is my preferred combination and found the big chin being empty prevents the need to stretch to a button down there. Some like them being blanked for gaming and holding in landscape. Horses for courses.

If bezels are a deal breaker then you'd rule out the Pixel and PXL.

Updates install in the background? That's awesome

The Pixel has two boot sectors now so it installs in one and when you reboot it reboot on the new boot sector. That makes it so if an update goes south you still have a running and functioning install. They introduced that in ChromeOS and it's a good idea but it's made ROM's, recovery, and rooting slow in coming.

Had my January update this morning.. it is refreshing to just reboot and tada! Boom! :)
Anyway.. need advice.. I have received my replacement Pixel this morning.. how do I transfer my home-screen layout/app data/other settings (not fussed about sms/call history etc) over to the replacement Pixel in the most pain-free method? .
Do I use the dongle provided? Will that work Pixel to Pixel?
I will greatly appreciate any help/suggestions.
