I've used Android Pay pretty extensively (live in California), and it's been flawless. The fingerprint scanner is as good as iPhone Touch ID. In general Android Pay is actually faster than Apple pay in that you simply unlock your phone, place near scanner, done. Whereas Apple Pay needs then prompt to pop up when near the scanner, and then you scan your fingerprint. However I prefer Apple Pay because I feel like it's more secure due to requiring your fingerprint to pay vs simply unlocking the phone.

Yeah I managed Android Pay once, and expected it to work like Apple Pay. It didn't, and only did when I unlocked the phone. Feel a lot more secure using Apple Pay.

I've had my Pixel for about a day now and I can't believe I didn't make the switch sooner. It's butter smooth in comparison to the iPhone 6 plus. Everything is way more responsive. Haven't had much time to test the battery life since I've been syncing all 20gb of my old photos to Google photos but it's going great.

Only minor gripe is Facebook looks like it's displaying less content than it did on iOS and it feels a bit slow to scroll. If that's all I can complain about then I'm really happy.

Pairing NFC enabled headphones is awesome. Just have the phone unlocked and tap it on the headphones. They automatically turn on, pair and start playing music. Apple could have done this with the airpods without having to complicate everything with the w1 chip.

The only other thing I miss is my Apple watch so I've decided to pick up a gear S3 Frontier tomorrow to replace it.

Now if only I could figure out how to move over all my old Viber conversations it would be the icing on the cake.

Well, I went through it all. The Pixel keeps rebooting. Software or hardware, I don't care anymore. It's going back. This is unacceptable for a flagship and I was never comfortable with the value to begin with.

Going to give my dad my 3T since he needs a phone and likes the large screen and great battery.

Now what to do about my phone situation. The s8 is still quite far away...

Gear s3 is compatible with pixel?

If you have an android smart watch that's not an issue as it automatically unlocks it's thesame kind of setup I use with my Chromebook Pixel it automatically unlocks in the presence of my phone. Much like Apple Google is a whole eco-system the more of it you use together the better it works.

Did you sell your S7?

NFC pairing is a great solution. I haven't used it personally so I have a question---does it also work to automatically connect after it's been paired the first time? I ask because one annoyance I had in the past was having to either manually disconnect my headphones from my phone if I wanted to use them with another device, or even unpair/repair every time I wanted to switch. Not having to do this was one of my attractions to the new Apple hardware that uses the W1. After pairing with a single Apple device, they're immediately available to select at any time on any other Apple device without having to jump through these hoops. Yes, restricting this functionality to Apple hardware is a limitation but it works so well if you have Apple gear.

My understanding though is the W1 adds more than jump pairing simplicty, specifically dramatically better battery performance and connectivity range. The Beats Solo2 supposedly were good for 12 hours of battery life while the W1 equipped Solo3 will last 40 hours. My experience with the Solo3 are certainly annecdotal but battery performance has been insanely good---not sure if it's 40 hours but its certainly far longer than 12---I've charged mine twice since I purchased them in November. The range is also far better and more reliable than any other bluetooth headphones I've owned---can use them out in my yard while my phone stays in the house.

Don't mean to make this sound like an advert for Beats/Apple as neither the Solo3 or AirPods (just got these) are perfect but thought I'd add info regarding the W1 as after using devices that have it, it's absolutely won me over.

Don't want to derail the thread, but yes, I got out of my Jump on Demand with Tmobile and returned the S7E (Jumped to a new phone, then returned it, and got the $50 restocking fee waived. Love Tmobile.).

All said and done, I kind of regret it now. Should have just held out with the S7E until the S8 or 2017 flagships. The software gains between the Pixel/S7E were minimal while the hardware loses were great. I miss wireless charging, I miss waterproofing (I was caught out in the rain the other day and didn't dare pull out my Pixel. If it were the S7E, wouldn't give a damn. Had to also move my Pixel to my inner jacket pocket, whereas with the S7E, would have left it in my pants pocket without a care that my pants were getting soaked from the wind/rain. It's little things like that...).

I might dig up my old S6 and use that until the S8.

Sorry to hear you had a rough go with the Pixel. I genuinely like the hardware quite a lot during my brief time with the XL but unfortunately, there are lemons out there for every manufacturer. Considering your affinity for the past 2 Galaxy flagships, I'm sure you'll love what Samsung offers in the S8---hardest part is waiting. :D

I was playing with a Pixel today in a Verizon store and was impressed. Two questions, when downloading third party apps from play store are the icons round like the pre installed ones or do you end up with all types of shapes. Second question is can I buy outright at Verizon for T Mobile service and what difference is there between Verizon's and Google store models.

All different shapes. I used a Pixel icon pack to get them all consistent on my home screen.

I believe there are no differences but don't quote me. There may be one or two Verizon apps preinstalled.

Were you able to use the Pixel Launcher with the icon pack? I know how to change icons using something like Nova launcher, but I prefer the simplicity of the Pixel Launcher just not sure how to change them.

The difference between the Verizon and Google version.

Google: Unlocked bootloader, SIM-slot unlocked.
Verizon: Locked bootloader, SIM-slot unlocked.

From my understanding, an unlocked bootloader allows for easier root access and also for loading custom roms. I could be wrong but I don't root my devices so if I'm wrong I apologize.

Neither will have any Verizon apps installed unless you activate it with a Verizon SIM card during the setup. Then they'll have My Verizon and go90 that get installed, possibly Verizon messages app as well.

At least this is how it worked using a Pixel I bought from my local Verizon store.

Yes. Use this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.momocode.shortcuts

Along with this icon pack: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.themezilla.pixelui&hl=en

It rocks :) It's a bit manual but it allows you to change icons while staying on the default Pixel launcher.

I've got a Gear S3 and yes, it's compatible with the Pixel (I tried it before I sold my Pixel).

It's a slightly more indirect method of installing apps, but pretty much identical experience.

I really like my Gear S3 - it's a keeper, I reckon, for the next couple of years.

Already rumours coming out about the Pixel 2: improved low light camera, waterproofing "on the table" (so not confirmed!), $50 higher price and a budget variant for other markets.

Interesting. The price change is weird...

Great

I get 5 hours SOT pretty much solid. On LTE 40% of time. 60% wifi

I find it personally the perfect size and have no regrets not getting the XL

Google has done a good job preventing me from getting the itch on buying the XL. It's never in stock. It's time for Google to join the big leagues and get more of these devices shipped.

Yup. They've actually kept me on iOS longer than I anticipated. I keep trying some lower level Android phones, but they let me down in a major area of importance to me.
