I'm with you all. There are plenty of missteps google took here. As much as they did well for a first generation device, there were also a ton of mistakes, not just with stock and availability, but also wth the device itself.

Hope they get their act together for the pixel 2.

Its not a big deal but the Pixel should atleast look attractive. The Pixel right now imo is pretty ugly.

im happy to see that google store is open now to other countries even without VPN..
i can ship pixel blue to singapore using a forwarder... lol....

I ask only because I tried ordering on the UK site myself (and ship to my parcelmotel UK forwarding address) and when it came to checkout it wouldn't allow me to use my CC as it was in a different country.
Is it google uk store?

Okay, so Google has changed Messages to Android Messages, and they released a preview of Allo on desktop.

Android Messages will be the new default texting app Google wants you to use

Google is making a handful of announcements related to RCS today, but the piece of news you’re most likely to notice is that the default SMS app Google offers is now called “Android Messages” instead of “Messenger.” Or rather, it will be the default RCS app. RCS, if you don’t recall, is the next-generation messaging standard supported by a group of carriers and Google. It offers multimedia messages, read receipts, and other features you’d expect from a normal chat app like WhatsApp or iMessage.

Amir Sarhangi, Head of RCS at Google, tells The Verge that the app is getting renamed because Android Messages is becoming more like Android itself: an industry effort spearheaded by Google, but with other stakeholders involved (namely: the carriers). the new name is also a signal to users that the app fully supports RCS.

Google’s Allo chat app is finally coming to desktop — eventually

Google’s Allo chat app isn’t blowing up the app charts (not that it ever really did), and part of the reason might be that it’s limited to a single device. Google had the admirable instinct to create an app with a “mobile first” mentality, basing the app on phone numbers instead of Google accounts. That made setup easier and potentially could have helped the app spread, but it also meant that you could only use it on your phone. Not having a desktop client seriously hurt Allo’s chances amongst early adopters who, it turns out, have laptops.

Apparently Google has heard the fee

A great start but still some work to do.

First, notice the one big player who hasn't signed on to use Android Messages as it's default messaging app? (<cough>Samsung<cough) This means the greatest number of Android handsets in the wild still likely won't be using this app. And we still need to see many, many more carriers support RCS.

And I'm still confused by Google's messaging strategy---why 2 different (well, 3 if you include Hangouts) messaging solutions and when am I supposed to use each? Why isn't all of this being directed into a single messaging solution?

Again, some very good updates but I still think Google's messaging strategy is broken and needs some laser focus to fix.

Thanks, I just checked the playstore and the 5" Pixel is sold out... Have these two ever been in stock at the same time..Pretty annoying.

I sincerely hope they learn from their lessons. The Pixel 2 launch and availability will have to be handled better by Google.

Maybe for about three minutes during a blood moon, precisely 2.43 minutes after the sacrifice of four pocket calculators and a Roomba to summon a restocking demon from the Fifth Circle of Heck.

But from what I've seen, nope.

From what i have heard on various forums......HTC has had trouble keeping up with demand. Then the contract between Google and HTC did not specify the quantity of phones they would produce or the timing. Don't forget HTC still makes their own phones too.

Pixel 2 has so much potential. It could be the greatest combination of Samsung-level hardware, Google-level software, and Apple-level updates.

That should really be the goal of the Pixel 2.
