Pixel 2 has so much potential. It could be the greatest combination of Samsung-level hardware, Google-level software, and Apple-level updates.

That should really be the goal of the Pixel 2.
Yep...I would love to see on the Pixel 2

waterproofing
SD Card ( not likely to happen)
smaller chin (but not a deal breaker for me)
a 64GB model
then of course the usual incremental camera and speed bumps

From what i have heard on various forums......HTC has had trouble keeping up with demand. Then the contract between Google and HTC did not specify the quantity of phones they would produce or the timing. Don't forget HTC still makes their own phones too.

I think this is a very underrated report. HTC is having their own serious issues lately. I don't even think there will be Eleven or One M11 or whatever the heck they name their flagship nowadays.

From what I've read Google originally anticipated a max sales of around 2 to 3 million Pixels for the 12 month run. Based on previous Nexus phones barely selling around 1.5 or 2 million phones for a year.

So I think first is Google really marketed the heck out of this phone and thus creating far more demand then they ever expected. And second I'm guessing is that HTC probably thought they had 12 months to produce a couple million or so Pixels. But we're totally unprepared to manufacture over one million in the first two months alone.

Rumors I read was that Verizon alone sold 1.3 million Pixel's by Christmastime.

High praises for the pixel camera:

Imagine a world where every Android phone has the Google Pixel’s camera

http://www.theverge.com/circuitbreaker/2017/3/3/14800804/google-pixel-camera-android-oem-mwc-2017

Here’s my understanding of the magic behind the Google Pixel’s camera: it relies on the traditional necessities of a good sensor and optics and is helped by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processor. But it is most critically reliant on Google’s ingenious mathematicians who’ve worked out an excellent always-on HDR modeand new ways to reduce image noise that others have yet to match.

If Google absolutely wants to see Android triumph over Apple’s iPhone and iOS, it wouldn’t be that crazy to just give away its camera software and make sure that all Android devices, at least at the premium tier, benefit from a consistently excellent camera.

Ill thought out article from the Verge.

Android from a device numbers point of view is already triumphing over iOS. There are more users running devices with Android than iOS.

Should Google ever decide to give away what makes its camera on its own branded device superior to the hundreds of other Android OEM's, it would in the end have ZERO impact on Apple or iOS usage.

It would however mean Google would be taking away a good reason / defining selling point as to why anyone would pick up a Pixel device over the myriad of other Android OEMs. Whilst it may benefit other OEMs, The only one who would not benefit would be Google and the Pixel.

Yup. Doubt it'll happen anytime soon if ever.

Again, high potential for the pixel 2.

I wonder how Google is going to respond to their call for feedback and suggestions to the Pixel 2. I'm confident we'll see waterproofing and a better design. I hope to see wireless charging, too.

Another big question is whether they'll have HTC be the manufacturer again. Apparently HTC is having trouble supplying the Pixel currently? I wonder if that'll affect their decision? Or was the idea always going to be similar to the Nexus program -- different OEMs getting an opportunity to build a Pixel device for Google.

My feelings are for them to stick with HTC for consistency in design. Just negotiate more production quantities.
But if HTC can't fulfill production look for another partner.
I would love to see waterproofing and 64GB option.

I'm trying to imagine whom they could forge an agreement with besides HTC. Huawei already divorced them, in a manner of speaking. The Huawei CEO also seems to have a bug up his butt right now with the US because of politics (based on some shade he threw at another Chinese CEO for meeting with Trump's administration), and that can't be helpful to partnerships with US based companies right now.

It's shocking to my husband that he still can't get a Pixel XL 128 GB. He has been on the wait list for months. I was, too, but by the time I got my notification and checked they were out of stock. We weren't going to buy one anyway, we were just curious. Whoever Google goes with, let's hope they can meet demand!

There's some rumors that Lenova (sp ?) could possibly sell Motorola due to lackluster sales. They'll try a little harder this year by going back to the "Motorola" name brand to help sales. But people say they may just sell

Which could mean Google buys them up cheap and has them as their in house official hardware maker for their Pixel line.

But if that happens sounds like it wouldn't be ready until the Pixel 3 in 2018. So for the Pixel 2 most likely HTC again and I forecast more of the same. Long delays and out of stock.

Seems Google doesn't care because they've been having this issues big time with the Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 and again with the Pixel XL. It's almost like the Pixel phones are a pet project with just .05% of the Google employees working on it, down in some basement that they get a few million $ to play with and create some phone just for fun. If it sells great, if it doesn't no big loss to them, they make money on the OS itself to their partners

In fairness, there are plenty of phones that could get a shot like that...

However, there are a couple of shots the Pixel took that REALLY impressed me - someone took one of a New York street at night and it was stunning, and (I think it was) MKBHD took one from a moving car of a truck that was simply unbelievable at 70mph!

These flower pics in daylight are a two foot putt - it's the trickier shots that really show a phone camera's worth :D

This is how I feel about the Pixel. I like the phone a lot but I feel like it's nothing more than a side project for Google. When the Pixel 2 is released we will be able to tell how serious they are about it. I just hope they don't treat the Pixel in the same way the Nexus 6p/5x was neglected when the Pixel was released.

Google needs to just keep going to HTC and throw enough money at them that the company rebuilds after the past few bad years.

Or maybe I just like that company too much to think logically.

I feel the same way.... HTC has always been able to build a quality phone. Google and HTC have to come together contracually on expectations and manufacturing priorities. I just like HTC as a company as well.

Really interesting theories by everyone about where the pixel can go.

I wonder if even google knows what they want to do. The fact that they're asking for feedback tells me that they aren't very sure yet. Getting feedback isn't a terrible place to start, but I hope they can come through. There is so much potential, as I have said before. If they could cobble up something close to blending Samsung hardware, Google software, and Apple support and updates, then they'd have a golden ticket in the Pixel 2.

It's a tall order.

In related news...

I've not met many people in real life who actually have a Pixel. Today, I discovered my neighbour got one!

Pleasantly surprised to see it in the wild for the first time properly (even though I had one for a month).

I've not seen anyone with a pixel here, most who see mine think it's an iPhone until they realise it hasn't got a home button. But then it's not actually available here so that obviously has a big impact ....

Pixel 2 needs to have a proper rollout, not this 4-5 country nonsense.

I'm still in love with my Pixel that I am happy for a change to sit out the launches of the S8, G6 and wait for big price cuts.

I've never been happier with Android than I have been with my Pixel.

I just hope and pray that regardless of whoever is tasked with manufacturing the Pixel 2 that the display is flat and resists the trend for curves. Flat so I can touch and see all of the screen content in one glance. Flat so that tempered glass screen protectors fit so well you can't tell they are there. Flat so I don't need a case to hold onto or protect it from the slightest edge bumps...unless I want a case for fun.

As gorgeous as my Samsung S7 Edge is to look at, and they are totally eye candy, I really appreciate my HTC 10 and IPhone SE displays for practicality and their own good looks. My iPhone 7 Plus and Samsung S7 display is sort of a weird hybrid of curved and flat. I'm okay with it. But I prefer absolutely flat.

Make it flat, Google. Courage, man, courage! ;)

This. I have the S7 Edge and I can't really name any actual benefit I get from the rounded edges. Sure it looks nice initially, but only up to the point where light reflecting off the curvature is making things harder to read. I also get increased accidental touches, practically no good glass protectors, and to top all that screen replacements are over twice as expensive as the flat ones. To hell with this gimmick, please give me a flat screen.

So has the XL been discontinued ? It's still not available at BestBuy anymore since December. And Verizon still has it on back order going back to January. The PlayStore teases it, but seems to be on sale for one second then out of stock right away.

When will this phone ( Pixel XL ) be a stock item on store shelves available for pick up same day immediately ? It's shocking that as of March 2017 a phone that was released in October 2016 is missing in action. Super strange weird stuff.

I'll look on Craigslist in my area sometimes for the XL, and it pops up for like $900 to $1,000. Or I'll see the Verizon one selling on CL for like $750. I'll bet you big bucks once the Galaxy S8 and LG G6 are out in stores, this thing will tank in price, and come May, will be selling for much lower.
