5x is $80 bucks off for black Friday. Nothing on 6p (ugh).

Return policy also extended for holidays. If you purchase between Nov 27 and Dec 25, you have till Jan 22nd go return.

I pulled the trigger. Hope Google will sort out the software issues by Xmas.

Can't argue with the 5x price in the US. Wish it was the equivalent here (£199). It's been reduced in some places but only slightly to £279. Google still want £339 on their store.

Same OL arguments. Reading thru this I see posts saying iPhone is way better hardware than Google, yada, yada, yada.
Google doesn't make hardware so stop there. Say Apples hardware is better than LG and I'd agree.

The Nexus line has never been top notch so stop expecting it to be. I had a Nexus 5 and it was fine but I'll never buy another as Samsung is so much better and they raised their price on them. You want faster updates, get a Nexus. If you don't mind getting it later like me, get something else.

As for the iPhone, yes good phone but still didn't do as much and Siri flat sucks compared to Google Now. I work out of town a lot and I have a room mate who has an iPhone and I always have to find info for him because Siri blows. I find Siri to be quite annoying.

Well, $80 off and two month return window I'll give it a try. Have always thought the 5x was overpriced by $80 so...

I think it's totally worth it with the discounts today. For what it's worth it ran almost perfect for me today, until I went to record a video and brought it to it's knees.

I feel like it's still possible for a later update like 6.0.1 or 6.1 or something to actually fix this since it has the capability of running well when it feels like it. For now though I'm putting my SIM card back in my iPhone. I'd be happy to give the 6P or something in 2016 a try with the SD 820. Hopefully they improve the thermals on it.

Thanks Blaze. I had Snapchat installed the first day to check a story from a friend out of town but uninstalled it after that since I've also read about it causing major issues. I do have the Facebook app installed though for the first time in forever since I've been using the browser on my iPhone and Z10.
I installed the camera update, the one on my phone and the Play Store is still v2.5.052 so maybe this will help. I've been using Manual Camera and it's been perfectly smooth so it's got to be something in Google's app.

Also, it's been mostly fine this morning after I did a reboot last night. But then I went to compose an email in the Gmail app and it started scrolling up and down a tiny bit by itself and wouldn't let me hit send or any of the action buttons up top. It persisted after a reboot too so that was really strange. Probably an isolated bug since I've never seen it before on anything else.

I really want to love this phone because it's so nice and light, has a good size, and is quite grippy. I just wish AT&T supported WiFi calling on something other than the iPhone 6 and 6s. That was part of why I moved from Verizon was so I could call where there is next to no reception at my parents place on any carrier.

I'll give it till next week and see how it is. :) Kind of wish I could have grabbed it from the Google store today for $80 off though!
You're welcome.
If I were you I would have returned and ordered atcthe discounted price. However I am cheap so you probably won't do that lol. Hopefully the bugs get sorted out.

Yes I vaguely remember what you're talking about. Indobget bothered with the slow svroll rate on ios but its not a deal breaker and I have got used to it over the last 2 months or so using the 6s Plus. This slowness is less apparent on the 6s compared to the 6 models and I'm sure Apple will deliberately slow down the 6s this time next year to make us want to upgrade .

Anyway more thoughts on the nexus . sorry hope people dont mind me typing as I think of new things to say rather than one big long post.

Speakers on the nexus are much better quality than the iPhone as they are stereo and almost good enough to play music in the background while working

The phone does seem to be getting hot at the back. And that's just due to internet browsing. I dread to think what it will be like when I make a call lasting longer than 10 mins

I prefer the OK Google and Google maps combo and strangely enough despite OK Google being rubbish for voice dialling it works very well for directions.

Siri and Apple maps work well together too but I prefer Google Maps for navigation as it knows about any traffic problems ahead and will re route automatically

More later :)

Can Google now navigate to an address on your phone contacts app? Can you say: OK Google navigate to Jim Slim whose address is only on your contacts app? Last time I checked Google Now could not do that. Siri can easily do that.

Generally (I don't do much voice dialing), Google Now is a superior product from a phone integration standpoint for two reasons. First (And I'm speaking purely as an American), I find the voice recognition is superior. Second, Google services integration on Android is superior to Apple service integration on iOS.

How can it be better integrated when Google Now doesn't allow you to navigate to an address that is strictly in your phone contacts app. Siri can do that.

You can't argue this when Siri opens one of the worst mapping apps and biggest Apple blunders in the mobile era.

Until you can get Siri to launch a real mapping application, you can't do what you are describing well.

Now its vastly improved and i prefer it to Google Maps which has gotten me lost or crashed on me mid-transit several times. Another thing that annoyed me was that it wouldn't work in landscape mode.

Haven't touched Google Maps in over a year nor have i felt left wanting with Apple Maps

You can use Siri to launch Google maps all you have to do is use "via transit" at the end of your command.

On a jailbroken iPhone you can tweak iOS to allow the launch of Google maps using Siri w/o using via transit.

Besides that, Apple maps has improved greatly since launch. It does not get you lost.

You still have not told me if Google Now can navigate to the address of a person in my contacts.

I'm pretty sure Google can. I'll try it later.

Oh cool I didn't know that. So I can just say 'navigate to Jim's home address via transit' and it opens google maps ?

So you're going to determine if one is better on the other based on 1 scenario?

Google now automatically pulls all my tracking numbers for my packages and tracks them. Showing me where each is and when they will arrive without asking. Can Siri do that?
Google now suggest a time you should leave based on current traffic for you to reach to your appointments / whatever you have on your schedule on time. Can Siri do this?

Both have their strengths. However most persons will say Google Now is more powerful / useful.

For all who is asking can Google now direct you to a contact like Siri, I don't think so. What I do is to say "show me "contact name" address. Then click on the address to navigate. There is an extra step so ...yeah.

Siri can suggest time to leave as well.

http://iphone.appleinsider.com/arti...ith-automatic-directions-based-on-user-habits

It can also suggest dining and entertainment based on your location or time of day.

The most important for me is hands free navigation. Siri does it without another step if I am using the stock maps app. I have a 2013 HTC one m7 running 4.x and Google now simply refuses to do that. I had hoped that Google would fix this on 5.x and now 6.x but they have not.

That link doesnt show me what I said Google now does. Google now checks your calendar. If you have a dentist appointment at 1pm and lets say your having lunch. If will give you a notification that you should leave soon if you want to reach your appointment on time based on current traffic conditions.
Your link shows siri suggesting places to go when you get in your car.

There is many more features that Google now has which siri lacks. Saying siri is better integrated because of 1 scenario is not saying much at all.

There's no denying that Siri sucks. In general Apple is known for being bad at machine learning and AI. Google is the pioneer in machine learning and context awareness, due to their extensive experience with search. I don't see that changing anytime soon. There's a reason that it's Google who is testing self-driving cars, because that's what Google is good at, machine learning.

Apple is years behind in this machine learning technology and I don't see that changing. In fact Apple sucks at programming in general, just look at how they managed to slow down iPhone 6 with iOS 9. Heck, even the newest iPad Pro stutters here and there.

Wait, what?

Google Now:

What I do is to say "show me "contact name" address. Then click on the address to navigate.

Siri:

When you say that it takes you to a screen and you touch the Google maps icon and your navigation starts.

Big diff...

Siri flat sucks! I don't have any address's for my contacts so I can't confirm that GM's does that but it does everything else well. Siri overall is awful compared to Google Now.

If you use native map to native map comparison Siri navigates to an address from your contacts without any additional step. Google Now cannot even do that.

Here is the scenario: I am driving to a friend's house that I have not visited in a while. I think I know how to get there, but as I am driving I am a bit at a loss. So I say "hey Siri navigate to Joe blow." Siri opens Apple map and begins navigation.

The FACT is you cannot do that with Google Now. With Google Maps I have to either stop the car and look up the exact address in Maps. Or I need to read the exact address (if I had it memorized) to Google now and tell it to navigate.
How many of you memorize addresses these days.

This was my original starting point. Being able to use Google Maps with an extra step is just a bonus point.

On my Jailbroken iPhone I can even use Google Maps simply by telling Siri to navigate to an address from my contacts.

So I have the best of both worlds when jailbroken. I can use either Apple Maps or Google Maps by simply talking to Siri.
