My 32GB Nexus 5X came in today from B&H, and so far it's great! Stuck my Verizon SIM in from my iPhone and BB Z10 I've been using and connected right up. Now I'm getting my AT&T one in a bit and expect it to do the same. Unlocked phones with proper LTE band support FTW.
First impressions:
1. Stupid light weight for it's size. Also nice soft-touch like back (Carbon model).
2. Front speaker is pretty loud, miss stereo from my One M8, but miles better (louder?) than my 6 Plus. Maybe not as clear and lacks the lower end the 6 Plus does have, but louder for getting over ambient noise.
3. LCD is punchy and very bright indoors, decent viewing angles. No AMOLED, but it's not bad either. I prefer it over my Moto X 2014 that was AMOLED simply because this is less grainy even though the Moto was also 1080p. It's very similar to my M8 which was great. I'll test uniformity of the backlight tonight.
4. Camera looks great from first few test shots. Not missing the "watercolor effect" from my 6 Plus. The 6 Plus has been my benchmark so far though, so we'll see how it gets along in the dark without OIS. AF is very fast. Lacking burst mode and 240fps recording though. So that's a downside as I use burst mode a LOT for moving subjects.
5. Snapdragon 808 and 2GB RAM seem to be pulling it's weight just fine. It's no 810 or A9, but it seems at least on par with the A8 in the 6/6 Plus but with substantially less UI lag when compared to the 6 Plus on iOS 9. It does hold apps in RAM longer than the 6 Plus on 1GB did, duh.
Not that I had an issue with the 6 Plus anyway. Just Safari really.
6. USB-C, cool. But would it have really hurt Google to include a USB A to C cable with this thing? Stuck with only one power brick for now. So that's a downside but I assume it will become an upside when it's the standard in a couple years from now. Reversible is a nice improvement from Micro USB. It also has a nice *click* when inserted like a Lightning cable.
7. Battery, will update later.
9. Miss having an SD card slot (Z10, GSIII, M8, Incredible had them) when the max storage is 32GB with about 23GB free before apps go on. Every other phone I've had either had a 32/64GB SD plus internal or 64GB internal like the iPhone. I'll sacrifice by not having music since it's all on my iPod classic anyway. Which is always with me in the truck.
I've seen a lot more 6P reviews out there than the 5X, so I'd be happy to answer questions if you have them. For now I'm giving it a few days to see if I want to keep it before I straight up sell my 6 Plus, though it's in the marketplace if you want a shot at it!
