That's fair enough and I can totally respect that. I doubt next year will be similar though. Updates will slow down and there will be a new version of touchwizz that the GS6 wont get, so it will look dated against the new models, at least if the past is any indicator. At the two year mark support will be terminated completely, even though the phone should work for 4+ years since android system requirements are mostly going down, not up. It's the planned obsolescence that pisses me off most about non nexus, definitely worse than iOS, even with ios' partially forced updates

And that's fine. I use Nova anyways and I can change the other parts of TW if I want. I usually keep my phones over a year to 1.5 years then get a new one but its doubtful if I get another Nexus but that depends on size and price. I do love the many more features of this phone. My Nexus 5 was kinda bland.

I've had two updates for my GS6. For for 5.1.1 and one from T-Mobile for battery performance. So its not like I'm not getting support and this phone has a lot more features that I like. Not sure if I'll go back to a Nexus, especially if the price is where the way too big Nexus 6 was at.

I think his point was watch how your update support diminishes dramatically once the GS7 is out next year.

Taking into account it's solely one person's interpretation in a render...

I agree, quite boring and the back panel is a hideous mish-mash. The fingerprint reader looks like an afterthought. It also won't come with an 820 (per Qualcomm, won't even be ready for shipment until late 4th quarter, I believe) and I doubt it'll have 4 GB of RAM or a 128 GB storage option.

This model is supposedly the one from LG right? So we're to believe they're going to integrate a fingerprint reader and dual 16MP sensors in a Nexus device for Google when neither have yet appeared in their own flagship? I'll believe it when I see it.

Sounds waaay to good to be true. Will this be true? I'm buying if it is

http://www.gizmochina.com/2015/08/03/google-nexus-5-huawei-nexus-specs-leaked/

According to the leak, the new Nexus 5 will feature a 5.2-inch full HD 1080p P-OLED display, the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 620 (MSM8976) processor, up to 4GB of LPDDR3-1866 RAM, up to 64GB of eMMC 5.1 internal storage, a 3180mAh non-removable battery, a MediaTek MT3188 wireless charging receiver, and a Marvell Avastar 88W8897 connectivity chipset for 802.11ac Wi-Fi, NFC, and Bluetooth 4.2.

The leak also reveals that the new Nexus 5 will be equipped with front stereo speakers, a rear power button with integrated fingerprint sensor, a 13-megapixel rear camera with an IMX278 RGBW sensor, a 6-element f/1.8 aperture lens, OIS, laser autofocus, and a dual-tone LED flash, a 4-megapixel front-facing camera with an OV4682 RGB-IR sensor and Iris Detection, a USB Type-C connector with QuickCharge 2.0.

Lastly, the leak reveals that the upcoming Nexus 5 from Google and LG will feature an aluminum frame with chamfered edges and a matte plastic back cover. It will be priced at around USD300-400.

Software experience and updates are very high on my priority list personally if that's what you're asking.

I'm pissed that my gs4 GPE is EOL at 5.0 when it can easily run 5.1.1 and beyond. If it was a nexus it would be.

This should further reinforce your preference for Nexus going forward--very good news.

Nexus devices will now receive monthly security updates

Update: And in a split second, this benefit is less special for Nexus (though still incredibly important) as Samsung has announced it'll be doing the same thing.

Haha, i just read that and was about to post! I don't think I can consider anything but nexus anymore (well aside from iOS), even if the hardware isnt as good as other skinned options

and F samsung :p Maybe I will sing their praises if my GS4 GPE ever gets a stagefright fix but i am certainly NOT holding my breath. I expect that press release only applies to the GS6 or higher, maybe the note 4

Some new news on the devices, the LG model is beginning to look very mid range indeed..

Apparent Huawei Nexus phablet:

Rumoured specs of both Nexus:

At this point we’re still not sure if Google will push more Nexus devices to the market, but the amount of rumors sure say it will. We’ve followed the tracks of both an LG Nexus smartphone and a Huawei Nexus phablet for weeks now. We have seen information on their specs before, but today we learn more information.

When it comes to the LG Nexus, we’re talking about a 5.2-inch 1080p P-OLED display powered by a new Snapdragon 620 processor, which is the successor to the Snapdragon 615, but with more powerful Cortex A72 cores. We also see 4GB of DDR3 RAM, options for up to 64GB of storage, USB Type-C with QuickCharge 2.0, wireless charging, NFC, Bluetooth 4.2 and a 3180 mAh battery. It’ll sport a Sony IMX278 camera sensor with f/1.8 aperture, a front-facing speaker, and even a fingerprint scanner in the rear power button. Targeted price tag seems to be around $300 as well.

The larger Huawei Nexus phablet seems to be slated as the premium option, at least in specs. We see a 5.7-inch WQHD AMOLED display, which is still 2560 x 1440. We get less details on internals than with the case of the LG model, but we do see a Sony IMX230 camera sensor with 192-point phase detection autofocus. The recently announced Qualcomm WiPower wireless charging coil will be included, hinting to a metal unibody design. The source goes as far as to claim that we will also get USB Type-C, and a fingerprint scanner as well.

Stay tuned as more rumors push or debunk these listings.

Fingerprint scanner on the back... what are people's thoughts on this? I think it's something I have to try before I pass judgment, but my initial thoughts on it are that it'll be somewhat annoying...

Yeah my thoughts too. It was a point of contention for me with the LG G4 having the screen on/off and volume buttons on the back. For me it was not intuitive at all.

Personally I find it less convenient. I keep my phone is a cradle/mount in my car...could not use it to unlock the phone if the scanner was on the back. Same goes for the number of times I quickly unlock my device while it's sitting on a table/countertop or even in my dock next to my bed. It would be awkward to use as a payment authenticator as well when using tap to pay, with the display facing down.

It sucks, but people are obsessed with "no bezels" so they don't have much choice of where to put it.

apparently the snapdragon 620 gets higher single thread benchmarks than the 810 (the main worry seems to be the GPU that noone really knows anything about, multithread on the 810/808 is better but multithread is mostly irrelevant), I would be very stoked if the lg nexus specs are true right there. That is a 5" nerd phone dream if the 620 can compete. The only thing midrange about it would potentially be the processor. 1080p is a pro not a con :p

as far as the fingerprint scanner on the back goes, I agree it is not ideal

BUT, if it keeps the physical size down, it sounds good to me. I would rather have scanner on the back than no scanner at all

front facing stereo speakers are also worth having the scanner on the back for me, but the leak doesnt say it is stereo

Yes, read that the GPU is potentially going to be weak in the 620, but also that camera module they rumour is not the best, it is mid range in performance. If you google it one of the Huawai phones has it and it hasn't got great write ups.

a better place
Was watching some of the Moto X Play which also has the 620 and it seems zippy enough. The big question is will the Huawei come in cheaper than the Moto X Play ?

i'm itching to go back to android. I just cant handle the closed off-ness of iOS anymore (ip4-->s4-->6+).

Sure the battery life is killer, but its just a mad house that i cannot download PDFs natively, without a stupid app and drag and drop things without having to go through itunes. now apple music is the last straw for me.....

praying the lg nexus 5 is VZ compatible. If it is, i'm done with iOS, i just cant handle it.

Well, this rumour at the least makes the phablet Nexus out to be one HUGE device!:

Both the LG and Huawei Nexus phones will reportedly feature front-facing speakers, a USB type-C connector, and have a fingerprint scanner mounted on the phone’s back – just like we saw in a recent Huawei hands-on video.

The Huawei Nexus should be constructed out of metal, have a face that measures 159.4 x 78.3mm, and be built with a curved back that ranges from 6.6mm to 8.5mm thick. While this source doesn’t directly confirm screen size, 5.7 inches is offered as a likely possibility.

The choice to go with a metal body sounds a little less certain for the LG Nexus, but it sounds like the odds are good we’ll get one. The phone would measure 146.9 x 72.9 mm and also have a slightly curved back, this one ranging in thickness from 8mm to 8.9mm.

Well, someone has made renders based on the specs leaks so far, the LG looks utterly bland IMO:

http://pocketnow.com/2015/08/14/lg-nexus-render

Huawei looks better but I think it'll be too big thanks to front stereo speakers:

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Leak...f-Googles-next-extra-large-smartphone_id72709

I think it could be concerning as the LG could be squarely aimed at the mid range sector with mid-range performance and a poor camera.
The Huawei could be a lot better but also a massive device, Nexus 6 size.

I would wager the 620 on 1080p will perform better and be lighter on battery than the 810/808 with qhd
I think the camera will at least be average, call me optimistic. Huawei camera will be better

Looks I hear you, I just want a 5" phone that gets updates, my expectations have been lowered after watching android this year :-/ at least it's rumored to be relatively inexpensive

Hmm... yeah the next gen 620 has the new Adreno 510 but specs on it are almost non existent, all Qualcomm has done is compare the 530 to other GPU's. I have read somewhere that 2k screens have been rumoured for both the new Nexus models!
That camera, the render very clearly shows LG's laser autofocus and a dual flash, but so far from what I've read the camera sensor is very mid range, if this phone had a very good camera it could possibly sway me from the Note 4, possibly. But the new LG Nexus camera would need to be as good as the Note 4 camera.

Yea that is probably wishful thinking for a camera on par with the note 4 on either models honestly, certainly not lg. huawei would have a better shot. I really hope the lg is 1080p
