Everyone who was hoping for a new imac announcement, what will you do now?

continue to wait?
buy current imac?
imac pro?
6 core i7 mac mini?

I was/am a March/April voter, but I was definitely hoping I'd be wrong. Mostly I was hoping new iMacs would cause the 2017s to have 3rd party clearance discounts as large as the 2015 discounts in mid 2017. Oh well.

As it is I'm seriously considering getting an i5 6-core mini. I already have a nice logitech keyboard/mouse and an early experimental eGPU build. All I think I'm missing is a 4K monitor good enough to be an upgrade over a 2011 iMac display.

I'll naturally wait for benchmarks, iFixit upgrade reviews, and OWC/Crucial Ram upgrade kits but that 2018 mini is looking pretty good.

Actually, I’ve just found something that makes the odds of a november refresh very high in my eyes. Look at this update to the macbook pro page.

View attachment 799598

They’re planning some quiet product refreshes in november, it seems

To me it makes it LESS. They announced that today even if it doesn't ship till November. If that was the case, we'd probably have seen a same silent refresh for iMac. However - I really hope I am wrong. haha.

2019 has to have a major redesign

Is that the same as all those times that people said that 2018 has to have a major redesign? And all those times that people said the same in the Mac mini forum? And the times that people said that Apple has to talk about Mac Pro at the event today, and so on?
[doublepost=1540936510][/doublepost]
Also disappointed. Waited for months. This is the 20th anniversary. Great way to celebrate, Apple...
Apart from a small handful of iMac fans on forums like this, nobody knows or cares that it's the 20th anniversary. It wouldn't make sense for Apple to waste their time and money engineering a product to celebrate it. I've been saying that the whole year.
[doublepost=1540936997][/doublepost]
So no imac today. That mean apple wants to redesign in and out for next year
Here we go again.

After all the wrong conclusions and speculation stated as fact before the event, within minutes of the event finishing and proving all those things wrong, the same people are already drawing new conclusions that also have no basis in fact or reality.

No, the absence of an iMac at the event today does not mean that Apple wants to redesign it in and out for next year. Maybe they will, maybe they won't.

So its clear Apple wants an new imac and mac pro at WWDC
More speculation presented as fact. No, that's not "clear" at all. We have no basis from which to draw such a confident conclusion.

This whole thread is based upon speculation, rumors, and hearsay—I admit that. But indeed what website are we on again? There is a purpose in having a forum for such conversation, as frivolous as it most definitely is. I felt as if my statement was pretty blatant in its hyperbolic nature—I was not using the verbiage I did with exacting accuracy, but what I thought was a pretty facially clear flippancy. It seems a bit didactic to have perceived otherwise, but I admit I could have phrased myself more clearly. Of course Apple can do whatever they want. By saying they “have to” do something I mean that I think it would be the correct move for them to make in my eyes. And I still think it’s by far the most likely occurrence. Nearly every one of their Macs have gotten redesigns, and I believe it is high time for their best selling, flagship desktop to receive some love.

I don't know. Been in the hackintosh land and it was a bit painful, but that pain starts to seem minor compared to the current situation. I'm just so happy I don't need one for work but for personal use / hobbies. It seems like any resemblance of reasonable value is going out of the window with Apple these days. I could live with the looks of PC by some usb & DP extenders that kept it out of sight, but good monitors are rather unsightly for my deco. Good, sure, but ugly.

I could go with iMac, but the GPU is long in the tooth for me and even VEGA would make it just ok. I'd rather have 10GbE in too instead of a dongled adapter.

I could go with mini... bhahaha… no. $2200 with Intel UHD graphics... this is robbery. And I'd need a new display. Most are ugly or not great, so there are aesthetics to consider.

iMac Pro? It's not bad, but it's not great either. Wish I could have it in normal iMac color. Issue is, with that price, it's a bit hard to stomach when you still would be a lot faster with Hackintosh / PC / Linux.

Literally no clue. I have debated going back and just buying an iMac Pro that I would likely never fully utilize. But I can no longer limp along with my 2008 MacBook Pro. I also could get a Mac mini + new display and that could be a stop gap until there is an iMac release that interest me. Not ideal, but could work.

Luckily I do not need this for work, but personal. However, with holiday's coming up I was looking forward to doing some tinkering and technical exploration during my holiday in December. Definitely cannot do that on my aging MacBook Pro.

They will, I have no idea why there's so much doubt over this. I have been saying this for a long time although generally I suppose 2018 iMac rumors have been quiet, even MacRumors forgot about it in the October Event Invite article.
I'm guessing it'll be labelled as something "nobody saw Apple announcing" as many quietly rumored refreshes are. In the same way, there will probably be surprise and confusion over the 8-core i7 and i9 models, just as there was when the MacBook started using 7th gen processors, rebranded Core i from Core m. Of course my issue with that is with tech journalists alone, as you would assume they follow rumors, leaks, and announcements as closely as possible.
I've turned this into a negative rant, all I meant to say is that we can expect a big iMac update, and it's surprising there's still doubt over it.

So?

Like someone here said. If we donysee imac ,means that is 80% chances for a redesign in and out with 9th gen cpu for WWDC
And since even the mac mini now has only SSD this means at least 27” imac will be all SSD

I agree, the spinning HD is very likely out. Interesting perspective.

Are we finished with moaning? Then we can continue to speculate or dream which is the fun part in these threads!

Probably continue to wait. I should really have replaced my 2009 21.5 inch iMac two or three years ago. Using it with Lightroom requires much patience. I wouldn't buy the current generation iMac though. I can't justify the iMac Pro. If the Mac Mini was available with discrete graphics options, maybe, but with third-party monitors and eGPUs and so on it becomes messy and expensive. So I'm still stuck. Might even be better to get a new 12.9 inch iPad Pro and make do with that until Apple provides something suitable – a 24-inch 4K for a sensible price is my dream iMac.

Caved and going to order the imac 2017. I was considering to get the imac pro instead but the cost is way too high for my "non-pro" usage.

Do any of you guys think it is possible that Apple will JUST release the new mac pro next year as their super big release and not release a refreshed iMac? Possibly because of putting all their R&D into the Mac Pro?

They let the Mac Mini go out of date for four years, so maybe. But I doubt it. They'll either quietly introduce a mild internal update in the next few weeks or wait until next spring to launch an all new version. They might want to launch a new version along with the new Mac Pro so they have enough stuff for an event.

I'll continue to stand on my prediction that updated iMacs are coming as soon as a full set of Rx 6xx GPUs are available to provide the rumored "significant display performance upgrade." No clue if that will coincide with a redesign.

I don't think that will happen next month and don't believe Apple will release in December or January, so my expectations are for a February/March update. Maybe April since Apple updates are often slower than expected, but I bet we'll see new iMacs before WWDC.

If the new iMacs and Mac Pro are both ready in the same quarter then a combined event seems plausible.

Mac Mini looks amazing. Period.

Yes, I think that Apple has given us an up-to-date option with very nice flexibility.

I'm not in the market right now, but if I were I would be looking at:

Mini 6 core i5, 512 GB storage, add my own RAM and small display via HDMI. The iMac 5K display is awesome, but I really don't need it. And, this setup would work great as a TV with YouTubeTV.
