Everyone who was hoping for a new imac announcement, what will you do now?

continue to wait?
buy current imac?
imac pro?
6 core i7 mac mini?

Waiting it out with my creaky 2011 iMac. I can’t see dropping any money (much less tons of money) on a year and a half old computer. Even upgraded specs would be fine. I’d love a new redesign but it’s not necessary. But I really think Steve Jobs would be disappointed at the missed opportunity to do something big to celebrate it’s 20th anniversary. I know I am.

Another option, I'm seriously considering committing heresy and buying a Windows PC now. I can't wait any longer, and am not going to spend around £2,500 on 18 month old hardware.

I don't have a dog in this fight since I moved up to the iMac Pro earlier this year, but I feel for you guys and gals waiting for a new iMac. I'm sorry you have to wait!

I assume you'll be waiting until at least March, but June is even more likely. For those of you that need a new iMac now and are not looking for a low-end iMac solution, I would give strong consideration to the base model iMac Pro and look for it on sale. With a touch of patience, you can get it on sale with no tax for $4,500. Really not a bad deal for the level of machine you get.

At any rate: I feel for you, hang in there, and best wishes moving forward with your purchasing decisions!

I'm sad there's no new iMac but I'm reassured in my choice to build a 9600k/RTX 2070 PC. Received everything last week and it's been great. For now I don't even feel the need to try to install macOS, Windows has become a very decent OS.

The only excuse they have for not updating it is that an 8-core bezel-reduced FaceID iMac is coming next year.

I can see that. Completely uninteresting to me but it does make sense.

Told ya there would be no new iMac in 2018.

That said, the Mac Mini looks amazing if you don't need a 5K display.
Mac Mini looks amazing. Period.

I'm in the market for something. An iMac Pro is what I want but a bit steep for the pocketbook. A souped up 2015 i7 would meet my minimum requirements but costs nearly as much as a 2017 refurb that already does. If the new Mini can handle a 5K + a pair of 4Ks, it might do exactly what I need.

When the full specs are up, the number crunching will begin.

Yes, a second vote for going for a cut-rate iMac Pro. I got mine through the refurbished store for $4250, however I did have to pay tax on it. Great cooling, 32GB ECC RAM, 1TB SSD, 8-core, tons of ports, etc.

Alternatively, the 2017 iMac is still one of the better values in the Apple line up. It's fast and beautiful. How much will most folks really gain from two more cores?

I get that Apple loves iOS. That is where they make most of their money and thus where they put 90% (at least) of their focus. Starving the MacOS lineup, however, won't help them diversify their revenue. I know they touted the Mac user base is as large as is ever been... but I've also heard new sales are down. Apple needs to show the Mac lineup more consistent love than they are or those sales numbers will continue to fall. Which does not need to happen.

I'm not in the market for a new iMac (looking at the new mac mini with the 5K LG display) but who's to say Apple won't do a silent update (spec bump) in the next couple of months.

Glad I got my 2017 iMac when it was on offer a month or two ago... got Apple to price match and I'm more than happy with it. Does everything I need, and will last for many years. The iMac is selling well, even in a "dated" configuration, if sales were that bad they'd have done something with the line up, they didn't because demand is still there.

So much for the new iMac that so many were sure was on it's way with slimmer bezels, better graphics etc... :D

well I'm thinking about a mac mini, 512 SSD, 8GB Ram (will upgrade to 64 myself), i7

Do you guys think this will edit 4K video in Premier or FCPX? Or do you need to buy the new Blackmagic eGPU with it that is coming out at the end of November? adding the eGPU will come out to about 2699 without the added ram. So about the 3K i was going to spend. just not sure what to do and if this will meet my needs as an editor

I have three options with the current 21.5 Mid-2010 iMac which doesn't support Mojave... Continue to wait for the inevitable space grey iMac that comes with an SSD drive (no reason not to do this if they just did it to the Mac Mini)... Buy the Mac Mini and sacrifice amazing display and the ability to some gaming... Buy NUC with Windows 10 and save $1-1.5k (over what a base 27" iMac will cost).

I might choose one and wait... The one thing I liked about my iMac was that even after eight years it still works amazingly fast. Granted, this is largely due to the fact that I did the manual SSD upgrade. The Mac Mini looks great but having experienced the Early-2009 Mac Mini and how fast it became slow (even with a Crucial SSD inside), I don't see it lasting as long as the iMac. Plus I'd have to buy a FHD-WQHD screen as I'm certainly not going to buy a $+1k screen. Finally, the NUC... I bought one to my elderly mother and it works just as flawlessly in her use as her old Mac Mini did. However, for my multitasking purposes, OS X is just better than Windows 10 in terms of speed, ease of use and that premium, everything-works-and-then-some feeling.

I’ll offer a more optimistic side to the story...

1) There’s still a small chance we get a spec bump later this week. Apple typically doesn’t announce spec bumps at events - with some obvious exceptions.

2) If we don’t get a true iMac refresh this year, this adds more fuel to the rumor of a complete redesign 8-core iMac next year. We could possibly see new iMac, iMac Pro and Mac Pro at the WWDC event.

The 2017 iMac is perfectly adequate for any task. The one I bought this past June has exceeded my expectations.

If not now, then when? They are two generation behind on intels processors.
They’re not actually two generations behind. The i7-9700k is not a generational improvement over the i7-8700k

What kind of sale was it? Any better than Education prices?
