The reason for no new iMacs is, that the whole all-in-one-thing will be redone.

New iMacs in 2019 and they all will only run iOS.

Doesn’t Apple sometimes do a small product refresh that they don’t announce? We might have hope

I’m deciding between buying a current 27” iMac for myself then give my kids my 2015 model or keep what I have and get them a new Mac Mini.

It is the sad truth. They present us the iPad Pro as a computer, game console and life saver, the iMac then the "desktop version" with touch display ... :(

Steve would have never allowed this.

Told ya there would be no new iMac in 2018.

That said, the Mac Mini looks amazing if you don't need a 5K display.

Very disappointed. I bought my current iMac at the end of 2013... just a few months before the return display iMac came out. I don’t want to repeat that but my current iMac is starting to struggle a bit. Definitely need to upgrade but don’t want to get an “old model” this time (especially not one that is getting close to a year and a half old).

The new iPad Pro’s and MacBook Air’s look nice and all... but that is just not what I’m looking for now.

since the mac mini had a redesign internals for those 8th gen cpu...it clearly said that Apple knows about this, and knows that iMac needs some love for the cooling to fit 8th or 9th gen cpu
So, next imac will have 6xx radeon and 9th cpu with proper cooling

Ummm, yes, I don't think that the new iMac mini is designed to replace the iMac...
Let's say compare base(-ish) systems:
Mac Mini 2018
- i3 8100
- 8gb RAM
- 256gb SSD (upgraded to match minimum iMac SSD)
- $999

iMac 2017
- i5 7600
- 8gb RAM
- 256gb SSD
- $1899

So for $900 you're getting a Radeon Pro 570, a 5k display, magic mouse, magic keyboard, upgradeable RAM (I assume the Mac Mini doesn't but maybe it does.) and slightly better CPU (https://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i5-7600-vs-Intel-Core-i3-8100/3890vs3942).

You're right, the Mac Mini is no iMac replacement and only has good value if you have and keep current peripherals and/or have no need for a dGPU.

I guess this means a design refresh before the next update. Probably needed with new Mac Pro coming. They'll have to balance out the whole lineup after iMac Pro... iMac refresh today likely would've given low-end iMac Pro a run for it's $ on some tasks so maybe that's part of the reasoning. Till then my 2017 iMac will do just fine.

Talk me down. I’m considering Hackintosh.

I started hackintoshing in 2010. If you have no other option it certainly does the job, but it's not like having a real Mac. It's super easy to get to 80%, but very hard to get to 100%.

Updating the OS or replacing hardware is always a Russian roulette.

At some point in my life I decided my time is worth more than the money I saved by hackintoshing. Thank god I don't need high performance hardware anymore.

I bought a Windows-comp (MSI infinite A) and the huge curved screen from Samsung for my games, but will prob buy an iMac later, if it gets a total makeover, better cooling, graphics. Time will tell.

I was definitely one of those silently hoping for a refresh today of the iMac. My 2012 rMPB is getting there on several fronts and based on current needs would much prefer a 27in iMac but why buy the '17 at this point right? I don't even need a full redesign or magical features that some are hoping for, I'd take a spec bump.

For me the mac mini lacks the dGPU and I don't want an eGPU so its out for me. iMac Pro - kinda overkill for my needs and not worth the price, buy the current doesn't make sense... I guess I continue to wait, or hope there's a silent refresh somewhere round the corner.
