Macworld UK has a long writeup on expectations for the next iMac and they predict something to be announced next week.

Would love that as I can’t wait any longer for a new Mac - working off my phone has been hell!

Thanks for letting us know about the Macworld UK article - it was a pretty good read even though most of what they talk about we’ve been speculating about here on macrumors for quite some time. It would be great to see a new iMac announced next week.

Their web site is horrible, but then again, most web sites are bad, with ads utterly ruining whatever content may be on offer.

That's interesting because Mark Gurman posted this on Twitter yesterday. Somebody replied to him asking about a design change and he said "negative" so it seems Gurman doesn't think there will be a redesign.

So after nearly 2 years could it just be a spec update? maybe a BIG spec update with 6-8 cores, big jump in graphics and maybe true tone?

Yea I uploaded a screenshot of the Tweet in my last reply :)

Ah sorry, yes you did! Excited to post and didn’t read new posts!

Yep, agreed. A hefty spec update is what I suspect. And True Tone would fit with Ming-Chi Kuo’s hint at display performance improvements.

It’s all good, I’m excited for a new iMac as well, I need to upgrade from my 2012 iMac. Would love a new design but it’s looking like it will be a spec bump.

No redesign... incredibly disappointing. The iMac is a horrible looking computer imo. Needs <7/8mm bezels to modernise it’s look, along with cooling that works..

Which is why you should be looking at the latest Mac Mini then. Get you own screen with High Res and super slim bezels etc.
That's what I have got. No complaints as of yet. However.... If a new iMac came out with small bezels and cooling that actually cools, so CPUs don't throttle and run at 90+ degrees from the most basic tasks, I will buy one.

If short people are craning their neck to see the menu bar, then the desk and chair and where the computer sits are the problem.

Blaming the 'chin' for causing ergonomic problems is utterly ludicrous.

The iMac is not height-adjustable, so it kinda is the main problem.

The vast majority of desks have fixed heights. People are expected to buy new, lower desks just to use an iMac?

And the proper ergonomics for chair height is supposed to be based on the length of your legs, not how tall your computer monitor is.

In short, your monitor is supposed to adjust to accommodate you, not the other way around.

So is that Gurman’s way of saying there will be new iMacs this week?

I’ve seen the iPad rumors, but nothing on iMac.

Do we think they will do away with the 1080p version?

I think so, he also replied to someone who asked “are we seeing a new iMac design” and he said “negative”
[doublepost=1552825463][/doublepost]Ming Chi Kuo did say he expected the iMac to be updated in Q4 of last year, obviously that never happened. Maybe the iMac got delayed and Mark Gurman is hinting at a refresh very soon, Kuo was interesting tho because he mentioned a spec update and "significant display improvements"

My guess an iMac with updated processors, 6-8 cores? graphics improvements and True Tone display, could True Tone be the significant display improvement that Ming Chi Kuo was talking about?

If there isn’t a Redesign this upcoming week and only a spec bump, is it safe to assume the current design will last another couple of years or is apple capable of dropping an all new redesign later this year?

I have no rush to buy an iMac however I don’t want to buy a spec bump iMac and then all of a sudden an all new model releases.

If a new version comes out next week, the next update after that will be WWDC 2020 probably. It definitely won't be later this year.

Didn't Gurman hint at the next week release?

If it's released next week via press release or something, there's probably no new design but I hope they have redone the cooling at least.

Yea he has, I was just saying that Macworld isn’t the best source for reliable leaks and release dates. Mark Gurman has hinted at an iMac and iPad release next week.

My guess is that a source has mentioned it to him, but until he can confirm it he probably won’t say for sure. If it’s a spec bump it could still be a big update, last years MacBook Pro wasn’t a redesign but it was a bigger update than usual.

It isn't safe to assume anything. A launch on the 25th is plausible simply because the iMac is overdue a refresh (and I certainly wouldn't buy a new iMac this week unless it was life or death) - but the current 'predictions' seem to be limited to the sort of reasonable speculation that anybody could come up with (hex core? Knock me down with a feather! With the current Intel range they'd have to "downgrade" to an i3 to get a mere 4 cores in a desktop processor!). Credibility in the bank if you're an "analyst" or a pundit - if you're right you can milk it for all its worth, but nobody's going to remember if you are wrong.

Also the announcement "Show time" sounds like it is going to be mainly about Apple's TV service.

However, if there is a March update it seems unlikely that there would be a re-design for 12-18 months at least - unless it was a really minor update like bumping the base-model options a bit.

If the rumours about switching to ARM are true (suggested by some, discussed exhaustively in other threads), I doubt that they'd start with the desktops (other than as 'developer specials') but I equally doubt that there would be another major iMac re-design between now and the switch.

Frankly, though 'only a spec bump' to the latest CPUs would be a really big deal because of the hex core thing (and for many applications, a hex i5 would probably be a much better compromise for the iMac thermals than a hot old i7).

Thanks for saying that. I was starting to feel like I was the only one who feels this way.

As long as the iMac does not have adjustable height, I'll be sticking with the 21" model.

25th my cut off point - if there’s no announcement iMac related, then I’ll order a Mac Mini ... I’ve waited all of 2018 for a refresh after my 2011 graphics card died only to be left disappointed.

There must be something happening as Mark Gurman tweeted what he did. Probably a spec update but at least they will be updated :)

I’m in a really bad spot right now. The HD on my 27” 2013 iMac has failed and I need an immediate replacement as I am working remotely right now with no option to go to my employer for at least another 1-2 weeks. I plan on getting the 27” 3.8 i5 as that is the only model available in stock.

I would love to hold out for the refresh, or at least upgrade to the 4.2 i7, but even those are 2 week build outs.

If I purchase a machine today, and new ones are released during the March 25 event, I should be able to just take back the purchased machine and exchange for the new, of course with any additional costs of the newest model, correct?
