It's not that dramatic....more like 2 months of using what you were already using....then getting to switch to the nMP.
Depends upon your circumstances. If i order something I generally need it soon, not in two months time.

Ordered mine on 19th December few minutes after shipping date changed to February, no email, still says February. 6core 512ssd, 32gb ram D700. UK
Called apple, they say it will definitely ship in February #
I am living in Ireland and I am in the same boat I ordered a 4 core 256GB 12GB D500 and noting no emails either but still says February.
I wouldn't worry about no emails - the first notification I received was your order has been despatched and here is the tracking information.
Once your status changes so that you can't cancel the order, you have about 6 days to wait for your box in UK and Ireland. Of course Apple are saying orders will be dispatched in Feb - they are not saying they will be received in Feb. Delivery takes around 3 days.
What do you mean about a six day wait?
At the point Apple change your order status so that you can no-longer cancel it, there is around 3 days before they ship the order and then another 3 days before you receive it.
My order status did not change yet, ah sure it is early in the day still.
got an answer from orderdesk:
ordered 19th december just jumped into march....
As the product is produced in China and the delivery time to Europe therefore takes a little longer, we can not give you any exact date.
speechless
I was not crazy, I did heard Produced in China too from Post sales Department.
I suspect that it works like this:
The US assembly line is highly automated with robots doing all the precision work and humans tending the robots.
After assembly, I think systems for custom configuration are then bulk-shipped to China where humans install memory and PCIe. These systems would then be tested and shipped from there.
This suggests that Apple chose to shift only higher paid labor the US while still letting them benefit from cheaper, overseas labor for customization.
This is speculation on my part, but I think it sensibly explains what people have observed.
My pending payment was dropped from my credit card today... I'm starting to loose hope.
I ordered a custom configuration and UPS collected and delivered it from Austin Texas. Attached is the UPS tracking list - no China there![]()
Thanks, for that info. So much for that theory.
Upon reconsideration, it's probably safest to assume that this is just lack of information on the part of those providing phone support. They say it is coming from china since they erroneously believe it will be shipped from there. Nearly everything else Apple sells needs to be shipped from China so this mistaken belief is quite plausible.
Just checked Scissors spreadsheet, looks like a couple of stock models have shipped to the UK but no modified orders yet.
Still processing for me.
I'm checking the order page every 8 hours now. Was expecting to have it mid feb not end of feb or early march grrrr.
Phoned Apple and ended up speaking to a rather clever AI automation system, even had fake key typing sounds after I spoke. Although didn't help as the helpline was shut.
*sigh*

My wife pulled those faces when I took the nMP out of the box. She was expecting something bigger - think the phrase was "is that it?"![]()
