I was really shocked when I saw this and I can't understand how much the iPhone X camera sucks in comparison to other devices considering that it is the newest and also most expensive device on the market. This is a real shame what Apple delivered here. (there are several videos on youtube that show that the camera just isn't good in comparison to the other top devices on the market)

For some reason I don’t really like his camera comparisons. He needs to get various different types of subjects and situations. Most of his comparisons are all the same.

First, the iPhone X camera does not "Suck". Are the other cameras on other smart phone competitors better? I would say that's up to the user to decide. And yes I have seen these comparisons and ultimately, I don't think many iPhone users have a lot of general complaints about the iPhone X camera aside from the recent flare issues.

Other cameras might be better but they aren’t significantly better to make a difference.

I truly believe Apple can step up on the camera quality just a little bit better. For lowlight work to name one, but all these cameras are pretty good but I think Apple should be better in my opinion.

I agree. For a thousand bucks the X should be the best smartphone on the planet and they don’t give you fast charging out of the box so bump that up to $1100’ish.

Takes better stills than either phone though.

you obviously haven't seen the video. I get it that people are highly Apple biased here, I'm too but I am still able to see flaws in Apple products. I have never owned an Android device and never will in the near future as I'm just stuck in the Apple ecosystem. This is why I hoped that the iPhone X will be the best smartphone on the market considering the high price.

A lot comes down to personal preference. And I much prefer iPhone pictures indoors compared to the Note.

That's got to be the worse photo comparison videos I ever ever seen. Very bad subjects, not much variety and some shots not even the same framing. Only conclusion I can see is that the Pixel 2's selfie camera does better HDR.

DXO did a comparison and rated the stills higher on the iphone X in several categories and higher overall. I would rather trust that then some amateur self obsessed youtube reviewer.

This is the dxomark comparison I was referring to:

Obviously I have or why would I specifically mention stills.
Still isn’t video. I said it takes better stills (these are like “photographs”). The iPhone X takes better stills than the Pixel2 or the Note8 or the P10. The videos are not as good. The stills are better.

The X does great in stills but no so great in video and motion. It will be interesting when Google fully enables the Pixel Visual Core processor. This wasn't enabled during the DxO tests. I hope they go back and test again when Google enables it....it will change things a little.

What will it change?

The iPhone 8 Plus even lost to iPhone 7 Plus' front camera. Worse dynamic range and in low light. If you saw comparisons of the Note8 or Pixel 2 XL vs 8 Plus, then you pretty much had a good idea how the X would fare.

I don't think the X is that far behind especially during the daytime shots outside. But low light, dynamic range, front cam, audio recording for video, the other two beat it.

Wait for Gen 2. Apple should have released the 8 back in March with A10X chip and call it 7s. Give it time to sell although it would tick off 7 owners. Then give X the A11, 4 GB RAM, and slightly updated cameras.

By releasing both six weeks apart and announcing them on the same day, there wasn't much differentiation except in design, OLED, Face ID, and Animoji. 8 Plus never got a chance to shine and X never had time to differentiate itself.

8 is a lazy product. X is a rushed one. X just cannibalized the 8's chances. Wait for the 2018 iPhones. We know Apple's routine of milking the same design for a minimum of four years.

Gotta be in it to win it

Seems like there is enough differentiation that has made the Ipx a runaway success.

As far as the camera, one can form any interpretation based on all of the reviews and blogs.

Pixel Visual Core is only being used, at least for now, to speed up HDR+. It likely won’t affect picture quality at all.

The thing is, I still prefer the X over both because of its height. If the smaller Pixel 2 came in panda and same screen/ratio as the Essential, I would be over all over it.

The problem with a Pixel is it won't be recognized on Mac and no microSD to transfer files. I had to keep going to my parents' house to use their Windows PC just to transfer media files. I used Share It multiple times before and can also do Bluetooth, but Share It would stop working after awhile and BT is too slow.

Samsung and LG are so much easier to use if you have a Mac. Android File Transfer will recognize it and microSD card inserted to an SD adapter makes transferring like 20+ GB of media so much easier. Now if you want no bloat, then always go unlocked with Samsung and LG. I hate carrier bloat. Even their boot animation annoys me.

Advantage with Pixel is it's the only Android that a carrier (Verizon) will leave untouched.

iPhone's auto focus got better, much better than my 7+, but still not on par with the Note 8 and Pixel 2XL.

Not exactly.......it will enable third party apps to take better pictures...yes...and also through software updates allow Google to improve overall image quality through their own camera app

  • Best feature will be software upgrades to Camera. Google can send out updates to programmable pixel visual core chip to create more better photos every day. Machine learning capabilities can be added everyday to pixel unlike other manufactures.
In summary, Pixel 2 takes good photos today but it is going to take great photos tomorrow.
