Note 8 and Pixel 2 camera totally outperforms iPhone X

FaceID is just another method to unlock the phone. You are compromising on screen size and battery life to get it. Once the phone is unlocked, you are getting a slightly inferior experience. For those who keep the phones on their desk while in office, FaceID can even be a downgrade. I think FaceID will reach TouchID gen 2 speed in their 2018 iPhone as Apple improves it based on data gathered from millions of customers.
As far as cameras go, they both take good pics, don't care about those small differences. Pixel is probably better here but the screen is a bigger problem with the image retention issue while the camera on the X isn't that much worse. I think the Note 8 has the highest dxomark score for still photos and that makes it better out of all 3 for me.
It’s my opinion, likes and dislikes. But let’s be clear:
- you are compromising on screen size, I’m ambivalent about it.
- you get a worse experience, I dont know enough to know yet and I may have a different opinion after I try it out.
I did try it out in the store. It's smaller than the Plus. There isn't two ways about it. Mathematically it's proven to be smaller as well. I am still getting it for the tech but in store, when I tried it out, the keyboard was narrower, the photos were smaller. The screen looked better slightly but not by anhuge margin. It's a fact that it's smaller. 8 Plus gives you a bigger screen, a bigger battery, faster biometrics in certain scenarios. You get a inferior display to the X and an unwieldy design and a inferior camera. Even based on these facts, if it's still getting beat by the X by a huge margin as is being reported in sales it's clear the bezelless oled design is what people are going for. The other aspects are trade offs.
I don’t know what people are going after, I only know what I’m interested in. I don’t care about the mathematical screen size, notch, lack of headphone jack, bezels etc. Yes, it’s new and shiny with more tech than the 8.
If you don’t think it’s worth it don’t get it.
Or are you looking for a reason to come on the forum and argue, endlessly.
What I am telling you is that people are going for the X because of the bezelless oled screen and this is a fact. 8 has almost the same camera.8 has the same processor. 8 has the same amount of ram. 8 has a larger screen and a faster biometric. You also lose the iPad viewing mode on the Plus in landscape. The bezelless oled screen trumps all these incremental changes which is why people are going for it. People want something fresh and not the same rehashed design which is why the X is outselling 8 even though it's much more expensive. Once this design is widespread, things will be back to how they used to be.
You cannot come up with any difference other than FaceID without mentioning design with the X.
I don't like the X but these complaints are stupid now.
Reality is they want it but are second guessing themselves so they're going to come here and complain.
This is sooo true! there are a lot of Apple fans that just come here in the alternative section to complain about Android phones they will never buy....They just come here to argue....
I am just saying that people are getting the X because it's a new design. There is no other reason. Design trumps internal changes. The iPhone 6 was just a 5s with spec bump but s fresh new design and they still couldn't convincingly beat its sales records. The X is causing another sales record because of the design. All iPhones with design changes show off the charts sales.
Anyway as far as he topic goes, they all show good pictures imo. Apple caught up with the 8 I won't go off topic any further.
Happy people generally don't argue, I got my pixel 2 xl and I've been playing with that, and my be 8. I don't need to be in here arguing over dumb stuff like near perfect cameras
I wasn't talking about you QT.......just look in the threads and who owns what phones. You will find the biggest complainers and arguers don't have the phones they are complaining about.
I notice that's a pattern with some here. They either want validation in choosing not to buy something or validation in the phone they already purchased.
And I'm tired of speed test and comparison videos that only get posted when they confirm someone else's preference. The videos are meaningless but people swear "this one is the right one" if it gives them a result they prefer. And these results are garbage anyway. OMG the Note held the Yelp app open for a minute longer than the iPhone! Did you notice when you use a magenta colored background with a pic of a dolphin holding an apple the Pixel XL 2's off whites look more on white??? My iPhone X doesn't do that, suckers!
Grow up. Talk about the tech. Stop playing cheerleader for companies that just want your money and don't care about your loyalty. And stop trying to "prove" someone else's phone is a bad idea for them.
If that were true than no one would have purchased the iPhone 6s, iPhone7, or iPhone 8.

Well I’m glad you know the rational for each of the tens of millions Apple customer. I only claim to understand my family needs and my needs with regards to tech.
I don't want the X because of the camera, I have a Canon DSLR for that. Iphone 8's and X have excellent cameras for phones and this comparison is not fair. For everyday use this is better than okay, just don't go charging people $$$ for photos taken from your phone.

Interesting. But I’ll hazard a guess that people have at least tried out a device for a long enough period of to form an opinion.
I think I’m leaning towards the X. To be completely honest. Face ID is a game changer, once you get used to it, there is no going back.
Honestly I would love an iPhone X as big as the plus.

Despite the fact I'm sending mine back, there was no getting used to Face ID. It was instantly brilliant in my opinion. I don't understand why people say it's more steps to unlock than Touch ID. Touch ID you press the home button and it unlocks. Face ID unlocks when you pick it up and it sees your face, needing a quick swipe. Same!
More relevant to this thread, the camera is great. Just like all the flagships. Prefer the front camera indoors on the iPhone, compared to my Note.
I just swipe, I don’t even notice it.
I was swiping to unlock my iPhone 8 Plus for a good 15 seconds today before I remembered to use Touch ID.
What are you getting instead?
Face ID is just effortless. And I don't agree with people saying "Well we've had iris scanning for ages and it's better". Iris scanning work with banking apps does it? lol
I'm keeping the Note and trying a Pixel 2XL to decide between the 2. I'm new to Android and so far, really enjoying it.
