A level 2 tech support agent told me that they need to open a case, not a ticket. I don't know what the difference is.

I'm surprised you needed to spend and hour on the phone with them when this is supposedly a known issue now.

Also for what it's worth, it's still not working for me and I haven't heard back from AT&T despite being told I'd hear back within 24 hours. I do have a case number though.

Yes Att CS opened a case for me, I just called it "ticket". She tried everything, nothing helped. At least we are not alone now. :)

I'm still having the issue. My iPad pro 9.7 has a minor problem with cellular connectivity (loosing the network for 2-3 sec every 10-30 min) and I had to reset it today to factory setting to exchange in Apple store. I tried NumberSync on a clear ios 9.3.4 , doesn't work. I want to install iOS 10.0 beta to see if the cell connection problem is there and I will try NumerSync again.

BTW: I tried T-mobile's "NumberSync" (I also have T-mobile)and it works on ipad and imac. I don't recommend T-mobile - network sucks :)

You are 100 percent correct there is a problem on At&t's side. If any changes or you find the solution please let me know, I'll do the same.

P.S. iOS 10 beta 5, doesn't work

I got a message to call and speak to level 3 support. I was told there are no known issue with Nunbersync, so I'm very confused.

The person also claimed having purchase block on my account, which I do, will cause NumberSync to not work. I've had that enabled for years and NumberSync worked for 8 months without issue. He removed it from my account, but that requires me to power cycle my iPhone which I was calling on so I had to drop the support call. "Surprisingly" it's still not working after they removed purchase block from my account.

I'm really at a loss here.

Just want to double check that Numbersync used to work for you and then stopped working last week correct?

I found it last Wed.
I want to add,I've just reinstalled a family member iPad on the other At&t line, same story NumberSync is dead. It allow me to register, by calls don't go throw. Now I have 2 lines without NumberSync. It is definitely At&t's problem.
I have not too much time now, but later going to open another case on my other line.
It is really inconvenient for me. When I work from home it was a blessing to answer calls on my computer instead of running like Usain Bolt looking for my iphone.
I also saw your post on Reddit :)

Do you have any changes/solution? My Number Sync is still dead.
I thought it was may be I used T-mobile 2nd iphone on my iCloud account. I disconnected it, sign off icloud, still nothing.
I hope they fix it for us this week.
Any changes, please let me know.

AT&T NumberSync calls still work on my iPad Pro, I used it earlier today. I can make and receive calls on my iPad Pro even if my iPhone is turned off.

I don't know if it matters, but when I look at my wireless plan on att.com it shows "NumberSync for Apple" under features on my iPhone.

Mine has been working fine all along on all my devices ( iPad Pro, iPad mini, iMac) when the other day while using my iPad Pro 12.9 I got a popup saying something about wifi calling not available or words to that affect, then about 20 seconds later, I got another popup saying something about my location being used for emergency purposes. I then turn my iPhone off and tried calling my cell from my landline and everything worked fine.
Sooooo, something is definitely going on at ATT.

My NumberSync is working on all of my devices, iPad Pro 9.7, Macbook Pro, and an iPad Air 2. The Air 2 is a different account and phone number. I do sometimes have difficulty with devices not wanting to place calls using NumberSync and reboots have cleared it up. Just incase it could be internet related I have Verizon FiOS and Cincinnati Bell Fioptics in the primary places I use the devices.

I am curious though. For those that are having trouble with NumberSync is the WiFi calling on your iPhones also having issues?

I can use WiFi calling on my phone with very few issues (not always the best call quality).

No success on my side. :-( And this is not an internet service provider. I have FIOS and Comcast. I also have Att and T-mobile LTE SIM in my iPad pro.
I tried to reset all my devices and use a different apple id. Same storry.

I have NumberSync in my features under my account.
What is funny it works with T-mobile , no problem.
I'm waiting for Wed. if no solution from Att they loose a customer.

It's still not working for me either. I've tested it on various ISPs: Comcast, Verizon, Time Warning, work and it doesn't work anywhere. It connects to an AT&T server, but doesn't it doesn't work and doesn't remain connected since the connection eventually drops. It then connects up again later, but it still doesn't work.

I'm actually on with level 3 support right now and the guy is trying to explain to me the difference between Facetime and NumberSync like I'm an idiot. I went into a rant on him since he was trying to walk me through a checklist: FaceTime on, AT&T Wifi calling on, etc.

He then had the gall to tell me that no one else has reported this problem and that I'm the first person to report that NumberSync isn't working. He also told me my iPad needs to have an AT&T cellular account which is also wrong.

All these level 3 support people are really annoying. I wish I had another device to test with, but my iPad Air 2 is the only device that supports NumberSync.

Has anyone else gotten a case number from AT&T? I'd be curious to see what they say if I give them the case number from someone else having the same exact problem.

Edit:

They had to gall to tell me that NumberSync only works for iPads that have an AT&T cellular network. They said iPad's that don't have a AT&T account are not supported and then basically hung up on me. WTF!!!!!

Listen to this. You won't believe this...

So I bit the bullet and decided to try doing a restore on my iPad and setting up as new to see if that made any difference. Short answer is it did not.

Long answer is that a number of things didn't work correctly trying to enable WiFi calling on my iPad. First off my iPad got stuck activating Wifi calling for a very long time. Once it did activate, I was never prompted to enter a PIN on my iPhone like normally happens when I turn calls from other devices off and on. I toggled calls from other devices off again and turned it back on and this time I got a message saying WiFi calling needs to be activated by my carrier (I've seen that at times on my iPhone when updating the emergency contact info even though WiFi calling still works). It finally did activate again, but again no PIN and again it didn't work. At that point I restored from a backup, which is still loading apps now.

At this point I'm near 100% certain the problem is on AT&T's end, but since they keep telling me my iPad isn't supported I'm SOL.

Att promised me a solution by Wed., it is also the last day of my billing period......

Now all my Att lines forwarded to T-mobile and connected my devices on T-mobile network.

I have iPad pro 9.7 that connected to Att network. (brand new, just from Apple store)

My other line has iPad air2 is also connected to Att network.

Tried to play with NumberSync again and look, what I have on my iMac

That seems pretty frustrating. They are definitely wrong about your iPad and it being supported. So with the various reports from everyone about their internet services and it working for some and not others I would definitely say it's on their end. Specifically it seems like account logins are to blame. My understanding of how NumberSync appears to work is that it first establishes a VPN back to AT&T. Once that is accomplished the VoIP magic happens next. Pure speculation on my end on those being the steps but I am a network engineer for a living and based off the connections that are established from the iPad, iPhones, and my Mac when NumberSync is on it definitely appears to be an IPSec VPN connection to AT&T first. I'm kind of curious about that connection, does it timeout fairly quickly? If so I would imagine that it is the VPN portion failing to connect. Not that it matters much for you as a user, your VPN and VoIP creditionals should be delivered to you during the PIN process where NumberSync is activated. It would matter to AT&T, though. They should be able to figure out what exactly is failing to connect if you were on the phone with the right area of their technical staff.

They should be able to figure out what exactly is failing to connect if you were on the phone with the right area of their technical staff.

My understanding on how it works (or in my case is supposed to work) based on viewing network traffic is as follows.

When calling on other devices and WiFi calling is enabled on the iPhone, it connects to https://sentitlement2.mobile.att.net. Presumably this is to register with AT&T. When WiFi calling is enabled on my iPad it also connects to the same address, presumably also to register and activate with AT&T. At that point a connection goes out to an AT&T server on port 5061 which is defined as SIPS-TLS. SIPS is a kind of VOIP messaging service which is basically the "I'm receiving a call" and "I'm initiating a call" messaging. When a call is initiated or received the ipad makes another connection to actually handle the voice traffic.

In my case I am getting all the above including the connection to port 5061 (currently using IPv6), but the 5061 connection drops out after awhile. I does come back at some point, but eventually drops out again.

Now here's something bizarre. Since doing a restore (both as new and then restoring my backup), I'm no longer getting the step in the calling on other devices where the iPad displays a PIN that needs to be typed in on the iPhone. Instead WiFi calling just activates without making me type a PIN. This seems wrong, but maybe it's a change made by Apple since nothing actually happened until I entered the PIN.

Also one time after restoring my backup and going into the FaceTime calls on phone settings and tapping "update emergency address" I got a popup telling me that T-Mobile needs to enable WiFi calling on my account. That is very odd since I don't have a T-Mobile phone number. My iPad is using T-Mobile's free 200 MB a month cellular data plan, but I've never had a problem with that before. I only saw that T-Mobile popup once and I don't know where it came from. When I tapped the "update emergency address" again it worked (and I saw my "new" ipad listed on my account). I'm going to have to have AT&T remove that. I also saw a popup about AT&T needing to enable WiFi calling on my account when I had restored as new.

At this point I'm wondering if there is also something odd going on with Apple. I'm still blaming AT&T, especially that idiotic level 3 support person who claimed only devices that subscribe to AT&T cellular data are supported and refused to back down when I called BS on that.

"Strange" that AT&T claims that no one else is having this problem and I'm the first person to call in about it.

Okay I don't know how or why, but it's working on my iPad now.

The only thing I did differently was basically disable calling on other devices on my iPhone and then power off my iPhone and iPad for about 20 minutes. I then powered both them on and used my iPad for about 10 minutes and then enabled calling on other devices on my iPhone and enabled wifi calling on other devices. When the prompt came up on my iPad I chose enable. After that I made a test call and it said "start a phone call" instead of "start a call on iPhone". I also tested incoming calls and they worked to.

One difference I noticed (besides the lack of a pin code) was that the IP address my iPad connected to was different than the one it's been trying to use lately. It's the one it used to use back when it worked. Unlike the broken one, this one actually had traffic flowing back and force across it (the broken ones maxed out at 5 Kb, while this is up to 16 kb). Maybe certain servers are broken?

I'm sure it won't last, but for now it's working.

Keep us posted, if you don't mind. Your adjustments may have fixed things or perhaps something was adjusted overnight on AT&T's end. I have a call with AT&T today on my Watch issue

It was still working as of this morning. I can see traffic going over the port 5061 connection. That tells me it was defiantly something on AT&T's end. Unfortunately I don't know what as AT&T support is extremely unhelpful.

My friend!!! Magic!!! It works with me!!! I tried it right after I've read your message.

I cannot say that I respect At&t in the situation. This problem was on their side.

What do you think, should I call them and close the case? I afraid "two left hands" technicians can disable it again.

BTW: thanks for IT tool app. Really good.

It's sounds like it just started working for him out of the blue, which means it's likely nothing that I did fixed it (just a coincidence) and I wasted hours of time for no reason.

Edit:

Yep a person having the problem on the AT&T forums said its working for her now too. Seems like AT&T fixed whatever the issue was. That or I fixed it for everyone (not likely).
