I've been running 1.1.3 unlocked, jailbroken and activated on a simplicity tariff but I wanted to upgrade to 2.0 and I'd heard a rumour that O2 were allows PAYG users to activate without signing up for a contract so I thought I'd restore my phone and try and go legit - and it worked!
(The following was using ITunes 7.7 on windows)
1. Put iphone into DFU mode
2. Restore 1.1.4 firmware (note that I was on 1.1.3 before this)
3. When restored, iTunes asks to activate phone. Follow activation procedure, no contract signup asked for
4. Restore previous iphone backup
5. Upgrade to 2.0
6. Restore previous iphone backup (note phone already activated)
Steps 2 and 4 could probably be skipped but I did it this way because I wasn't sure what a direct upgrade to 2.0 would so to my phone
And there you have it, an activated 2.0 firmware on Simplicity without any unlocking, jailbreak, pwning etc
Cheers
James
