i can confirm a pwnage 1.1.4 iPhone (o2) updates to firmware 2.0 via itunes without problems and activates fine with an o2 PAYG sim card

wooooooo!

Doesn't sound to me as if you change to an iphone contract

http://service.o2.co.uk/IQ/SRVS/CGI...00000001931343177,K=3580,Sxi=6,Case=obj(18219)

If you’re an existing O2 Pay Monthly customer on an 18 month contract then you can change your tariff to an iPhone tariff and maintain your existing contract length. To change you tariff please complete the form below.

If you don't want to change to an iPhone tariff or are unable to change because you're on a 12 or 24 month contract, then provided you are on one of our current tariffs you can opt to add the Unlimited Web Bolt On and Unlimited Wifi Bolt-On to your account.

You won’t have full functionality of all iPhone features such as Visual Voicemail and Call Merging. You should contact customer service to switch your MMS notifications on, otherwise you will not get any notification that you've been sent an MMS.

Says that you can move on to an iphone contract if you are on an 18 month contract but if you arn't or don't want to change you don't have to.
I have done this with my previous jailbroken iphone on my 12 month o2 contract and if they dont let me upgrade in August when i can they will be gettin it over the phone and i will cancel my contract and DD. usually works to get them round.

wooooooo!

Have you checked to see if you can browse using just edge/gprs coz mine doesn't work. Think it might be because I have the old £7.50 web bolt on rather than the new iphone specific £10 one.

This seems awesome!

I have an o2 phone which I have pwnaged to 1.1.4, I am also using an o2 PAYG sim card.

Is it possible to upgrade to Firmware 2.0 without doing anything else? I am not too bothered about the installer.app as the Appstore pretty much does that now.

Thanks for any feedback!

Yes.

Today, on reading this thread, I upgraded my 1.1.4 Pwnage Tooled firmware via iTunes. Once installed, it took me to the activation screen, I simply input my email address and Apple ID/password and that was it. No more steps. It must have known it's a PAYG card and allowed it on that basis.

I might still unlock it, but it's nice to have a phone that I can legitimately use without worrying about hacks if I need to.

I agree that this is HUGE for the UK market.

Just made the jump with my Wifes O2 PAYGO unlocked 1.14 iphone up to 2.0, works a treat :) - very happy

im waiting for the unlocking tool before i take the plunge with mine, im on a Business o2 contract with a Unlocked USA iphone , as soon as the unlocking tool is released i will give this a go and see if i can upgrade my contract, if this fails then i will unlock

Well the upgrade worked fine - all phone and wifi functioality intact.

However when i dl'd some apps - they never properly started - crashing back to home. Further playing about revealed that the email client and the wallpaper changer was doing the same thing.

Now this is a 1.1.2 OTB:

originally JB via 1.1.1 downgrade, safari exploit JB, 1.1.2 oktoprep, 1.1.2 ug and patched lockdown.

1.1.3 i upgrade used a script from installer app (DEvTeam??). I then used boss tool to move apps. During this time I made a lot of manual links via ssh to get stuff like summerboard and icomic working right.

Finally i restored 1.1.4 and used ziphone to JB and unlock.

Things had bee running fine but I imagine the file structure will be pretty messy by now.

So I am currently using the new 2.0 erase everything media and content - and will see if that helps.

If you have problems browsing the web over GPRS/EDGE you need to check your APN in the phone.

Contract/Simplicity - mobile.o2.co.uk (the default)
PAYG - payandgo.o2.co.uk

I signed up for the £10 bolt on on PAYG, changed the APN setting (no thanks to O2 who didn't mention anything about it) and all works well!

this didnt work for me. I have been using 1.1.4 unlocked (but using o2 payg sim) for a while. I updated Itunes and updated firmware 2.0, but as itunes activation screen comes up, it says there is a problem with device not recognised, contact apple.

So went to go back to 1.1.4, but get no service now, even with various unlock programs.

I am on o2 PAYG and have purchased the Web and Wifi Bolt on for £10.

Does anyone know the settings for the APN, Username+Password?

Worked like a charm, new apps fine (I love the remote control of itunes) email and walper browser back .

So be prepared to to a full erase - which needs the 2.0 upgrade afik

Are you sure everything is working with that APN? Full unrestricted web browsing, internet access, email access on all ports? Cos it ain't for me :(

Trying a full erase of the iPhone now and will do a restore back to 2.0 to double check it's not something I've done wrong.

I got my iphone off ebay a couple of months back. Thing is, i'm not sure what country it originates from. Is there a way of telling just by looking at the phone?

I have the same internet issue at the moment on PAYG - no mobile connectivity, WiFi only.

https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=29&q1=25 would seem to be the best bet for activating EDGE on O2 PAYG SIM cards.

i have the same issue.

I have an o2 iphone on PAYG (firmware 2.0)

I have a PAYG simcard and have paid £10 for the web and wifi bolt on.

My settings are:

APN: payandgo.o2.co.uk

Username: payandgo
Password: password

I got the message: Could not activate celluar data network

(maybe the £10 bolt on is just not activated yet)

I will try later

It looks like I am the only one with no problems!
I have the £10 add-on activated. The website said it takes 48 hours. I requested it yesterday at 13:00 and got the confirmation text to say it was ready today at 14:00. Did you get a text?

My APN is payandgo.o2.co.uk, username: vertigo, password: password.

No proxy settings or anything like that.

I have tested the following:

E-Mail (GMAIL): Works
E-Mail (POP3 - my domain): Works
HTTP: Works
HTTPS: Works
YouTube: Works
Maps: Works
App Store: Works
Twitterific: Works
SmugShot: Works
Facebook: DOESN'T work - works at iphone.facebook.com in Safari, but standalone app times out over EDGE, but works over WiFi.

I registered with the link I mentioned and got a text welcoming me to Pay & Go. Then, with trial and error, got it working as attached.

I am on the web-only bolt-on at the moment, but it's working fine.

You beat me to it. Thanks for posting this - I can confirm that Gmail is also working here in Mail, which is a first over EDGE for O2 PAYG as far as I know. I'm pleased. :D

A-ha! So the trick is to change the APN from default but not the username or password. Shame O2 haven't made that clear in their (hard to find) online help.

Will try this once my phone has finished securely erasing itself - takes an hour! :p

with those settings mine is working, so a big thanks to the poster of the settings! :)

I also had to reboot the phone, then the square appeared (gprs) with a circle in the middle (Edge). Wooo!

Just have to wait till o2 text me to let me know the web+wifi is turned on!

woooo!

The iPhone with firmware 2.0 is absolutely perfect now, except for one thing. Bluetooth/A2DP. If Apple can do this, I will be a very happy man! As it stands I am a happy man! hehe

Very tempting! So what details do you actually have to give in the activation process? Basically, I want to make sure I don't have to pay for anything to activate and use my O2 PAYG sim? I've never been on an iphone contract (if that makes a difference).
Currently jailbroken/unlocked on 1.1.2

Arghh!.
Just about got my 1.4 back with a signal after earlier upgrade attempt- been through every firmware reload and finaly got 1.1.3 signal back using bricktool signal fix, then reloaded 1.4 and unlock with iliberty+ and signal came back too.

Those that have sucesfully upgraded to 2.0 from an unlocked etc. firmware- did you have 4.6 boot loader or the older 3.9? My iphone was originaly 1.1.2, but has had many different reflashes/downgrades including ziphone which downgraded bootloader.

I tried a second time to go to 2.0, but got similar issue, itunes doesnt come up with activation screen- just says Itunes cant read the sim or there is simlock.

Im wondering if I should restore bootloader to 4.6 and then try?
