Very tempting! So what details do you actually have to give in the activation process? Basically, I want to make sure I don't have to pay for anything to activate and use my O2 PAYG sim? I've never been on an iphone contract (if that makes a difference).
Currently jailbroken/unlocked on 1.1.2

You don't have to give anything, really. There are only 3 or 4 screens - one for you to enter your Apple ID and password, one for you to enter your e-mail address, a page of T&Cs to accept and then the wonderful "Your iPhone is being activated!"

Arghh!.
Just about got my 1.4 back with a signal after earlier upgrade attempt- been through every firmware reload and finaly got 1.1.3 signal back using bricktool signal fix, then reloaded 1.4 and unlock with iliberty+ and signal came back too.

Those that have sucesfully upgraded to 2.0 from an unlocked etc. firmware- did you have 4.6 boot loader or the older 3.9? My iphone was originaly 1.1.2, but has had many different reflashes/downgrades including ziphone which downgraded bootloader.

I tried a second time to go to 2.0, but got similar issue, itunes doesnt come up with activation screen- just says Itunes cant read the sim or there is simlock.

Im wondering if I should restore bootloader to 4.6 and then try?

My phone was 1.1.2 OTB so it was running 4.6_M3S2 so might be worth upgrading to 4.6 and try again?

Success also with my Winpwned 1.4 iphone (was UK 1.1.2 4.6 originally)
Did a general reset then upgraded to 2.0 on itunes with my CPWH O2 sim only contract sim inside, only had to input my Apple id and accept the T&Cs and done....easy peasy.

It looks like I am the only one with no problems!
I have the £10 add-on activated. The website said it takes 48 hours. I requested it yesterday at 13:00 and got the confirmation text to say it was ready today at 14:00. Did you get a text?

My APN is payandgo.o2.co.uk, username: vertigo, password: password

Changed my username to vertigo as suggested rebooted phone and everything now works.

Thanks alot Jeonat:D

erm???? o2 are having a payg model and they were giving away payg sims to existing iphone customers that bought the 3g iphone so thats y it works..

a big deal is if some one on an o2 non iphone contract sim got it to work on an iphone??

Hi

When unlocking 1.1.4, I had used iLiberty+ to downgrade to the fake 3.9BL, a that was required. Once it had completed, I ran iLiberty+ again, this time just jailbreaking I think, for speed, but also clicked on the 'advanced' tab, then 'local payloads' to select 'Upgrade bootloader from 3.9FB to 4.6 (stock)'. Seemed like the right thing to do, but no idea if it's important during the upgrade to 2.0

Thanks

I am on a O2 Simplicity contract (i.e. the post-pay, 30 day notice deal) and my SIM card works find in my 1st generation iPhone upgraded to firmware 2.0 without any hacking - just upgraded to iTunes 7.7 (tried to do it with 7.6.2 but it put my phone into restore mode and then refused to work), installed the firmware, activated it through iTunes and voila! One working iPhone. Of course, some of the small print of the Agreement should have said "I will move onto an iPhone contract if I am not on one already and this action will be automatic and non-reversible"... Who read EULAs anyway ;)

I've been using my unlocked / jailbroken / activated iphone with my o2 simplicity SIM for over 6 months. Yesterday, upgraded via iTunes to the bog standard 2.0 firmware and it worked a treat. The itunes activation was a simple matter of accepting some T&Cs and clicking continue a couple of times. No contract to worry about. The good thing is that Simplicity isn't a PAYG SIM, it's a pay monthly one. I've read that ANY o2 sim will work doing this.

Cheers

I CAN confirm that an o2 non iPhone contract sim will work in an original iPhone with 2.0. I did it last night with no problems at all. Whole process took less than 20 mins. O2 are even allowing non iPhone customers on an 18 month contract the option to switch to an iPhone contract without having to extend their original contract.

is anyone with the Web and Wifi (£10) on o2 PAYG getting Edge speed?

I am where I live (get the E and speed tested to EDGE-type speeds) in a very quiet suburb a few miles out of Norwich, but in the city centre I just get GPRS... weird, I would have though city centres were more likely to have it?!

this is pretty cool news - I have a 1.1.4 jailbroken one which I have used with my (non-iphone) £15 / month o2 SIM - it works great.

Moving to 2.0 seems a good idea although I would lose the SwirlyMMS application which I moaned about not having in the first place.

I'm a little concerned though as `i used iLiberty+ to unlock / jailbreak / activate in the first place - I ticked the "use fakeblank 3.9 bootloader" so I'm not sure if this will f@ck it up if `I was to go for a straight-to-2.0 upgrade

any thoughts on this from the forum?

YAY!

I'm gunna give it a whirl, with my non pay as you go O2 sim card. It's a standard different contract sim by O2 and hopefully it'll work.

I'll let yo'll know.

Hi

I was in the same position as you, but decided to put the bootloader back to 4.6. See my post (#57 in this thread).

Cheers

Doug

Well just to let people know it works with my O2 contract sim and if works with Pay As You Go sims too, looks as if any O2 sim card will now activate on it!

I've upgraded my 1st gen iPhone to 2.0 but I can't get the EDGE data to work! :( I'm using an O2 SIMplicity pay monthly contract and I'm using the default 2.0 data settings:

APN: mobile.o2.co.uk
Username: vertigo
Password: password

Any ideas?

Hi Doug - thanks for responding - I just gave it a go in the end, and it seems to have worked just fine!

Thanks

what are your speed test results?

getting the E is no guarantee; when i had my iphone on pay and go i got the E but GPRS speeds.

Seems like EDGE to me, I guess O2 must have enabled it for PAYG now! :) The speed test was a 100KB sample.

I just upgraded my old iPhone to 2.0 and activated using my original non-iphone o2 Sim and it works great. Thanks for the advice!

You can get free wifi in Norwich City Centre though http://www.norfolkopenlink.co.uk - but your right about Edge. I live just out of the city centre and can't get it. Travel out to the sticks though and I can!
