*Sigh*
Must we get into this debate in every Office-related thread. I loved Pages '09, but iWork simply can't cut it for a very large group of users. Am I going to collaborate on a Word document using Pages? Nope, there goes formatting. As a power user of Excel I can assure you that Numbers is nothing compared to the capability of Excel.
iWork may be fine for you, but not many others - hence this thread.
That'a true but you can try these options: Office 365 Online or LibreOffice.
At least for a while.
I've worked many time with the first one and it works really well.
My experience is the same as kissmo. I've had no issues with El Capitan and Office 2016.
I left 2011 in place while I was trialing the 2016 Preview, but before I installed the 2016 release, I followed online instructions to delete all traces of Office 2011. Then I installed 2016. Perhaps you should wipe all traces of Office and reinstall 2016 from scratch.
Office 2016? Come on! Pages, numbers and keynote are far better.

Better for what? Better if you don't need to share your work with anyone else in the universe... There's a very good reason that Apple doesn't charge anything for these.
I think it is being pointed out that they are free with all new Mac's.Anything? $19.99 for each app.

Did the same as well. Have you updated to 15.14.0? I didn't try using any of the Office apps till I updated all of them.Add me to the list of people affected by this. I just got a brand new 12" Macbook. I installed El Capitan and Office 2016, both were fresh installs. Word crashes when I try to select a long block of text. Very freaking annoying. I'm a full time writer and Word is essential to my daily work.
Well, I did a clean install of El Capitan, followed by the Office 2016 installation, and finally updated all the Office apps with the Microsoft AutoUpdate. Haven't had time to test all of it but Word seems to be working fine here. I think the issues that a lot of people are experiencing might be due to the left-over files from Office 2011.Looking for more confirmation of Office 2016 working well with the official El Capitan release. Like just about everyone else, I had major issues with Office 2016 on the El Capitan Betas. I just bought a new Macbook Pro for work and have Office 2016 installed. I want to pull the trigger on the El Capitan install but not if my Office apps are going to crash on me.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2398768Hi Jhfenton, do you have a link for the 'how to' delete all traces from 2011? Thanks, CHR

Are you opening an Excel workbook with macros? If I open an Excel 2011 workbook that has NO macros, I have had no problem so far. But, if I open a workbook WITH macros and Mail or Safari are open in the background, Excel will go into a not responding state within a minute or so.I have had absolutely no problems with Office 2016 on El Capitan. The only problem I have experienced was that in Outlook 2016 my Apple Calendars do not appear since installing Beta 2. This is also the case with other apps that access Apple's Calendar as well such as Fantastical 2, OmniFocus 2, Desktop Informant. The only app that was not affected was BusyCal 2. I believe the problem is more with Apple in this case since it involves so many different applications.
