Everyone be happy and relax, MacBook Pros with core 2 duo are coming either monday or tuesday as a silent upgrade. If apple is really nice Mr.Jobs will start the special event off with "The Macbook Pro...many asked why we didn't update this before the iMac...well this is why *shows picture of thinner and sleeker MBP* . Its faster, thinner, and runs 30% cooler than the last MBP. Our guys did an awesome job".

:) Wouldn't that be nice?

 Why doesnt it make tea and do the cleaning! :p

Don't you think people are expecting too much from this upgrade (if there is going to be one at all) Come on people all appe can do is there best, and if they are doing that or working towards that then you should be happy you have the chance to get such a wonderful machine as a Macbook Pro as it is. Maybe I am wrong but compare any Macbook Pro to a dell, I think for now just chill theres no need to sit in the corner of a room rocking back and forward sucking your thumb waiting for a new release. Go for it and if you get one 15 days before a new C2D Macbook Pro comes out just think does it really matter. I already have the best machine on the earth already so what if I am down an upgrade. It you wait you can wait for C2D go ahead but just think in a year or so there will be a better chip and after that there will be a better one and so on. And in 3 years there will be a new laptop called the MacLap and MacLap Pro that run at 1000000000000 GHz that can make tea.

.. IMO ;)

Edit: "Our guys did an awesome job" is nearly as famous as "One last thing..." ;)

That would be nice. But what I'm looking forward to more are the angst-ridden posts screaming as to "WHY HAVEN'T THEY UPDATED THE MBP WITH C2D YET?! WHY?!"

Mabye I'm not looking forward to that because I want a MBP C2D too, but it will definitely be entertaining.

I'm so tired of hearing this argument, for one every little bit of extra processing power really helps your comp stay competetive that much longer. And a 10 to 15 percent increase in power really makes a difference to a lot of users. It your knocking out a 30 second animation and each frame takes 10 min to render, your looking at a 150 hr rendertime. Knock 15% off of that and you've save 22.5 hrs, almost a whole day! This is an extreme example, (common for me though) but even things a lot smaller add up to a lot of saved time.

well, vast majority of people don't render animation for 150 hrs as their day to day computer usage... i think day to day computer usage is more like checking email...

Well then, the vast majority of people won't be able to tell if they're using a 2.33 merom or a 1.83 yonah!

lol

that's my point... well partially, that merom won't be benefit to people who mainly get a notebook for day to day work and general school work (esp undergrads, they hardly need their own computer to be powerful)

Mac-Addict - thank you so much for your brilliant vision of professionals in a room "rocking back and forward sucking (their) thumb...". I'll be sure to pass that along to a client wondering why my presentations are slow in displaying or why I need to carry a back-up due to optical drive issues with the current Yonah models. READ the many posts on this topic - it is WAY MORE than the Merom upgrade at issue.

Your in - depth presentation experience in front of large executive audiences puts me at ease.

Well - it would be nice - especially since that is the song and dance many of us have been hearing since BEFORE WWDC :-0

Most of us do not need thinner - we need more reliable and now.

My message parallelism, computer security, and computer graphics classes would all disagree with you...a lot.

Thats why its the pro model and some of us who are waiting for the C2D macbook pro can really benefit from any performance upgrade and for those who won't benefit go buy a macbook for your everyday use

Do you need a GPU to render animation?

Summary thoughts: I went back and checked the announcement date for the MBP - JANUARY 10, 2006 (First shipments February 14, 2006).

So - it has been OVER 8 months and the pace of improvement has been little more than correcting design / manufacturing errors and moving the cpu speed from 1.83 / 2.0 to the currrent 2.0 / 2.16.

Much of the frustration regarding the MBP stems from the quality problems and expectations that we would be seeing much faster upgrades - eight months without a true Rev B is a negative to many of us. Again - seeing the new $999 iMac with a better processor than their top of the line notebook is......

There have been many off the mark estimates and "solid rumors" regarding the arrival of the Merom based MBP and new features. Perhaps this period of disappointment will end within the next 7 days - many of us hope so.

Remember - its more than just the processor - where is Rev B?

After seeing the new MB everyone knows deep down inside that the current MBP design is just a rush job to get Apple some cash while the real innovations are down the tube :)

I wouldn't get the MBP personally until I at least see the magnetic latch and easy access HD panel on the MBPs as well.

this is a merom mbp complaint thread

generik said:

this is a thread for those of us who are waiting for the merom mbp so your threads I dont think qualify themselves in that category we are he to vent about the delay

P.S to answer your question I do heavy recording and editing of music so things like faster processor and more ram capabilities are crucial for latency issues and running dozens of plug ins during a single session. And I record at high sample rates such as 192 which takes alot of power

SAY IT IS NOT SO

I agree with your other comments - more and more to me Merom is like code word for Rev B - the features you mentioned and a better GPU are what I am waiting for.

When are threads like this going to stop?? Once merom comes in the MBP someone else will be asking when the next cpu upgrade will be and if they think it will be significant difference in their buying decision to wait it out on a dell laptop for another 6 months. It's funny when people go out and spend $2,000 on a laptop then a month rolls around and a new faster, cooler chip is out and they have to lost $500-600 on their current machine just to say hey man i have CORE 2 DUO instead of CORE DUO haha. Seriously come on, this gets old.....this kinda thread happens a few months after a cpu release and people complain that the current cpu just sucks and the new one is the best ever released. I never see pc people go so crazy over something like this.

Give apple some credit they do some pretty cool things and when this tuesday or whenever they decide to throw merom in there people are going to order them like crazy and this thread will be in wasteland and another one will appear 3-4months down the road bc you aren't happy with merom. Apple always surprises everyone, so wait and see what happens in the next few weeks and quit complaining......

If there isn't a MBP C2D update at or by Photokina, that's when I'll just go ahead and consider getting the current MBP.

I'm glad I don't NEED a new laptop... I just WANT one. That said, and for that very reason, I'll be waiting it out. My PB G4 1GHz has lasted this long (since Nov. 93) - it can last a bit longer. I know that technology changes immediately, but with the newer chip on the horizon, I can't justify a Core Duo, regardless of how crazy, stupid-fast it will be. I'll continue to wait impatiently for it. Then, when it's released, I'll wait impatiently some more, as it seems the world is waiting for this machine.

Actually IMO there are some pretty good deals in the refurb section of the store now.. so I think next time I will just stick with buying refurb and pass all these waiting by!

Yonah -> Merom is a rather big transition so I guess we all will have to wait... urgh..

When are reponse like this going to stop?? ;)

Everyone in here just wants to talk about C2D MBP because it's entertaining. We're just having a little fun. That's all.

And responses like this always have a sort of innate presupposition that everyone who wants the upcoming new item, also has the previous or current item, and simply wants to upgrade to the next one. Believe me, if I already had a yonah MBP, I wouldn't even be here. I'd be happy for quite awhile.

The eventual C2D MBP will be my first computer in over three years, and I'm sure it will last me for several years. I'm not going to care about Santa Rosa or whatever else is coming down the pipe until such time as I'm in the market for another computer.

So until the merom MBP's start shipping, stop trying to harsh our mellow. :D

yeah, woody quagmire...
