So far its only AMD that is officially supported. Does any one think that by the time Mojave comes out of beta that nvidia cards will be officially supported?

Apple stopped using Nvidia cards on Macs since 2014, so I doubt that they will suggest Nvidia cards like they're doing with RX560/580, but if think that support will come - it's working now and will continue to work until Nvidia stop making web drivers.

Even a Mac Pro 2008 runs Mojave =)

What I did:

Cloned my Mojave DP3 install onto a HFS+ SSD with CCC (haven't added APFS to the BootROM), copied /System/Library/UserEventPlugins folder from 10.13.5, copied /System/Library/CoreServices/PlatformSupport.plist from El Capitan (easier than add my board-id), added boot-args="-v -no_compat_check" to the nvram.

Very nice. Does SIP need to be disabled for this?

I read somewhere on this forum something about a 580 pro apple edition release. I hope thats not the case, I much rather have apple release an updated EFI that works with existing RX 580s, Vegas. I certainly don't want to buy a new RX 580 since I already have one, and many people already do.

If Apple releases a PRO 580 and someone finds a way to modify a RX 580 pc to Mac and shares it publicly, I would be thankful but I probably wouldn't risk any resistor mod on a 300 euro card. Many RX 580 owners would probably find it to risky as well and that might create business for macvidcards and/or ebay sellers, which is great for them, but I don't think Apple customers should be forced to pay a hefty premium just to upgrade to current GPUs.

Unfortunately, since Apple has already released two public betas, if next week's public beta 3 release does not include an EFI update that enables proper support for Polaris and Vega based GPUs , I'll assume such an EFI update is not in Apple's plans.

The so called 'Radeon Pro 580' is the best optional graphics card in the iMac Retina 5K 2017. It's not so 'Pro' as you think.

I don't understand why you say I think its pro. All I'm saying is that I rather have apple release an EFI compatible with the pc version of the RX 580.

He's saying there is already a Radeon Pro 580, and it comes installed in an iMac Retina 5K 2017. And the so called "Pro" version isn't as good as the name implies. Nothing less, nothing more...

Not quite sure what you mean by this. QT 7 has long been deprecated. Long live QTX.

QTX is dead too.

QuickTime no longer exists. The only remnant of it is "QuickTime Player" which doesn't even use QuickTime anymore.

It will be interesting to see how long those iMac Pros last under heavy loads. Slim, tightly-packed form factors contribute to excessive heat, which in turn greatly reduces the lifespans of electronic components. Those RX 580s are likely to cook everything in the case.

Barefeats already found that the iMac pro doesn't reach its advertised boost clocks, likely due to thermals.

There are no iMac Pro models shipping with an RX 580. You must be thinking of the regular iMac.

LightBulbFun discovered that the new Radeon Pro 580 card listed in the Polaris kext is the new Blackmagic eGPU.

From the photo and the description, it appears to be a single mini 6-pin to 8-pin cable.

Yep, sorry about that, and to others who mistakenly made a purchase.

My bad as I hadn't looked too closely at the 6-pin end and description. I had just gone out to my local Fry's to look at it and that's when I discovered the error of my ways... :(

As far as I could determine, there are no US-based sources for these and the only easily purchaseable one is off eBay from China for ~$15 USD with shipping. As I have no recourse, I had placed on order which will take 2-3 weeks to arrive...

I found this

https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-x-male-m...-male-PCI-E-8-pin-15-MADE-IN-USA/263792185350

Looks longer than it needs to be but should do the job, I suppose.

Hmm, wish I stumbled across this sooner.

I liked that it's made in the USA... but it's using only 18AWG versus the 16AWG I'm getting from China. I have no idea what wire gauge would be needed for the RX 580, but having a larger wire would certainly allow more current.

It's cheap enough that I may buy it anyways...

I have a Chinese one and it is 18AWG. That is plenty for the 75-100W each cable is supplying to the 8 pin connector.
