I know... support for these machines is really an afterthought and "stop-gap" effort. Becoming more clear with the install prep instructions, notes and exceptions. Pretty clear that pushing 10.14 to Metal was priority over figuring out how to support these "few" items in the way.

Keeping my machines on 10.13.6 at least until I know the future of NVIDIA Web Drivers for Mojave.

Since Apple lists 2 NVIDIA cards as supported, I imagine there will be a new web driver for those with NVIDIA cards sometime soon.

Probably, but it would also be separate from Apple's recommendations. Both those cards have always had built in macOS drivers, and still do in Mojave.

Nice to see Vega is officially on the support list for the 5,1. Although it sounds like there are still fan issues? And power can still be a problem.

Yes, there are still some fan issues for Vega, but it depends on the card. Usually the fan doesn't run at all on my Pulse 56, but sometimes when I start the computer up it runs and playing a video still doesn't turn it off. So I restart it and that usually does the trick. Kind of odd, but it's not a deal breaker. Other than that minor issue it works fantastic.

I wonder if Apple would be more willing to address those bugs now with bug reports.

Although I also suspect they're wrapping up their Mac Pro 5,1 support and they just consider us lucky to get another release at all.

The installer still doesn’t let you install Mojave using a GTX 680 Mac Edition when using USB.
Pathetic that this bug made GM.

has anyone actually submitted a bug report on it? (especially as they finally acknowledge the 3rd party mac edition cards existence)

I've started having a problem since installing the RX 580. In the last week about 4 times I've had my computer lock up completely. No mouse movement or keyboard movement, even pressing the caps lock key doesn't light the led on the keyboard.

Once I left it and it became responsive again, twice I had to restart and another time it restarted itself. I'm quite sure it's linked to me using the app Aurora HDR but it never happened with my previous cards.

I did used to have 2 other issues with my dual 5770s which this card seems to have fixed. I would regularly get logged out while switching between apps if I have a couple in full screen mode. I also used to get lots of red rectangles on areas of the UI, like a window in the background. Those 2 now seem to be fixed by this card so not all bad news.

Is this fixed/addressed when updating your firmware (Boot ROM Version) from MP51.0084.B00 > MP51.0089.B00 > 138.0.0.0.0?

Oh dear...

Mac Pro 5,1 with a Gigabyte RX460 - was running 3 monitors but the one connected via the HDMI port is now missing after the Mojave update. Not mentioned in the System Information at all.

Any clues on how to make it work as it did before ?

Thanks !

138.0.0.0.0 firmware?
straight HDMI connection without adapters/converters?
can you change HDMI modes/versions on your monitor?

Yes, I did the firmware update - although not sure how I verify that worked ?

Hmmm, the HDMI connection does use adapters (the monitor is older and has no port).

Can't change anything on the monitor...

(sorry, I have only middle level tech knowledge)

What are you converting the HDMI signal to?
What adapter are you using?
What monitor are you using?

Clearly I am a idiot...

I went pulling cables out to see what was connected and how - so I could respond. Plugged everything back in and the 3 monitors are all up and running again - sigh. Thanks for the comments - seems the RX460 is fine after all !

I’d like to know how we’re gonna do firmware updates with these two suggested cards…

Do you by chance know If the Sapphire Pulse RX580 Overclocked is the same thing as the one that is not over clocked. I cant seem to find detail on this, Im trying to pick one up on ebay and some sellers say "overclocked" in the title but others dont. The sapphire website does not make it clear. Thanks!

No, don't know about that. Usually you can change the firmware to the non-overclock version, or edit the clocks with Polaris BIOS editor.

But that two cards still need web driver to utilise CUDA. It will be very very rude that Apple refuse Nvidia to provide web driver and not allow their users to utilise CUDA.

Vega is just "might also be compatible", still quite different then officially supported.

noticed also the XFX Vega 56 is recommended as well as the sapphire 56 on the egpu support page
https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT208544

first time iv seen some one recommend a XFX card for mac, there where reports of problems with them in the past with older cards.

so maybe there will be some support but only for external cards (we get the drivers to then?) but no support in the old macpro's as the power pull is to big.

I don't think Apple is stopping anything. Nvidia could probably release a web driver if they wanted to.

I think what's actually going on is that Nvidia is putting a lot of resources into a web driver for a declining portion of Mac users, and they're not going to be able to justify day 1 releases anymore.

eGPU might change that. If I were them that's where I'd be throwing my resources. I don't think it's making them their money back trying to support just Mac Pro 5,1 users with day one updates.

XFX Vega 56 has always been on the support list. At least when they added it both the XFX and Sapphire cards were reference.

580 is more complicated because there are no reference 580s.
