Thanks, yes switching to HDMI fixed the colours.

I'm still not happy with the text on my monitors. I'll run a fresh calibration on all of them and see if that helps.
I am happy with the performance though, everything feels faster including FCP. Hopefully that'll get even better when they bring out a version that uses Metal 2 on Mojave.

One thing I was hoping to do as soon as I installed it was to buy Pixelmator Pro as it needs a Metal compatible card. Turns out there is no way for them to check if a Metal card is available so you can't buy it on an older Mac Pro. I'll buy it on my MacBook Pro and copy it across.

I'm too lazy to read back right now, but are you running Mojave? If so, this likely explains your complaints about text: https://www.reddit.com/r/apple/comments/8wpk18/macos_mojave_nukes_subpixel_antialiasing_making/

No problem, but no I'm not running Mojave. I just bought the card and setup my Mac Pro ready for Mojave.
I'm much happier with text on the RX 580 with smoothing turned off but it's still not quite right.

Well Mojave definitely makes changes there, so you may want to wait until you install Mojave next week (or whenever you do the upgrade) before making any decisions RE: monitors.

I've got my cables and it's installed but now I have some other issues.

1st of all when I saw a video of this installation the "SAPPHIRE" on the side of the card lit up when powered. Mine doesn't and the logo doesn't look as if it's lit so is this just down to a different version of the card?

Now my problems, I have two Dell U2414H monitors connected up via Display Port and a Sony TV via a DVI -> HDMI cable.

There seems to be a problem on my Dell monitors, both of them have red and green around text.
My TV is even worse, it has a magenta cast all over it.

Any ideas?

Edit: Turning off font smoothing and logging out and back in fixed the colours around the fonts. But now I'm not sure if the text is more difficult to read, think I just need to play with the sharpness setting on the monitors. Still can't fix the colour cast on the TV. Might try HDMI->HDMI cable next.

There is no light for the PULSE, only Nitro+ has light.

For font setting, I found using HiDPI option is the best solution.

e.g. My monitor's resolution is 3840x1080. Then I intentionally select the 3840x1080 HiDPI option (which means the UI rendering at 7680x2160). And all font looks good on my monitor now.

just went live...

Make sure that your graphics card works with Mojave
Next, check to see if the graphics card in your Mac Pro is compatible. You can use System Information to find out which graphics card your Mac has:

  1. Press and hold the Option key while choosing Apple () menu > System Information.
  2. In the sidebar, select Graphics/Displays. If your graphics card is compatible, you see "Supported" next to the Metal entry. You can also note the name of your graphics card and see if it's in the list below.
These specific third-party graphics cards are Metal-capable and compatible with macOS Mojave on Mac Pro (Mid 2010) and Mac Pro (Mid 2012):

  • MSI Gaming Radeon RX 560 128-bit 4GB GDRR5
  • SAPPHIRE Radeon PULSE RX 580 8GB GDDR5
  • SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7950 Mac Edition
  • NVIDIA Quadro K5000 for Mac
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680 Mac Edition
Some other third-party graphics cards* based on the following AMD GPU families might also be compatible with macOS Mojave on Mac Pro (Mid 2010) and Mac Pro (Mid 2012):

  • AMD Radeon RX 560
  • AMD Radeon RX 570
  • AMD Radeon RX 580
  • AMD Radeon Pro WX 7100
  • AMD Radeon RX Vega 56
  • AMD Radeon RX Vega 64
  • AMD Radeon Pro WX 9100
  • AMD Radeon Frontier Edition
If the graphics card in your Mac Pro isn't listed above, you need to install one that's compatible with macOS Mojave. If you need additional help, contact Apple Support.

* Third-party graphics cards vary, so you should check with the vendor of your specific graphics card for compatibility details.

Going to bold this note for newcomers...

Don't upgrade your Mac Pro (Mid 2010) or Mac Pro (Mid 2012) to macOS Mojave directly from macOS versions prior to 10.13.6.

Just so I get this straight, I can upgrade to mojave with just leaving my rx580 in the machine and don’t need any other card correct? There is some conflicting posts about this but they may be old. Saying to upgrade firmware first using an efi card then switching back to new card and performing the install. I have a gigabyte aurus RX580 and am running latest high Sierra. Thanks.

You will need to be on firmware MP51.0089.B00 before updating to Mojave. How you get there really depends on what firmware (Boot ROM Version) you are currently running and if you have an EFI GPU.

To upgrade to MP51.0089.B00 of High Sierra 10.13.6 you need a EFI GPU. From there to 138.0.0.0.0, no EFI GPU needed.

I am on MP51.0084.B00. Latest HS. How do I get to 0089? I have a gt120 if needed.

Edit- on 10.13.6. Why is my bootrom still 0084?

Install the GT120, download and open the full Mac App Store installer for 10.13.6. Upgrade your firmware as the installer requests, after the reboot, close the HS installer.

Personal suggestion for newcomers: Get your machine to High Sierra 10.13.6 (build 17G65) with MP51.0089.B00 firmware (Boot ROM Version). Then make a clone of your system drive (to another drive or external) before proceeding with any further updates/installs. (Carbon Copy Cloner is great for this.)

Save this as your "restore" point for the immediate future, especially if you do not always have an EFI GPU available. Some have borrowed EFI GPUs and others are reporting issues with their aging GT120's. It can save a lot of headaches...

good thing I came here, I was just about to install Mojave without the Boot ROM update.

Install EFI GPU into your system
Download the LATEST High Sierra installer
Again, you need to have an EFI GPU installed in your machine to get from MP51.0084.B00 > MP51.0089.B00

Follow the install instructions that appear with firmware update
shutting down and holding the power button until the BEEP
(DVD drive will likely eject and then system will restart)

Will someone with one of these cards test to see if FileVault and Boot Camp Assistant are working? If not, I think we should submit a bug report.
  • SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7950 Mac Edition
  • NVIDIA Quadro K5000 for Mac

Don't think it'll do much if it does NOT work. See this from the prep notes:

https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208898

Before you upgrade to macOS Mojave on these Mac Pro models, you need to update to macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 and then make sure that your graphics card is compatible. You also need to turn off FileVault.

Yeah, but it's weird they disabled it across the board, even if the GPU can technically support it.

Checked on DP11, FV2 was blocked on MP5,1. Still blocked with 18A391
