My Device to Device is showcasing a much higher number than yours though... any reason for that?

Not sure, may be driver efficiency difference. Even my RX580 shows a better reading then my 1080Ti.

Just realised I didn't check if I need power cables for this card to work?
Will it run without power cables?

I had a look around at other installations and they used an 8 pin to dual mini 6pin cable. Is this the right one?

If you mean RX580, this card require the 8pin plugin to work, NEVER boot the card without all pins connected unless the manual says you can do so.

Does anyone know where to get a dual 6 pin mini to 8 pin connector in the UK? I've tried Amazon and eBay and they're all from China arriving in mid October.

I bought it from amazon.com, guts parker iirc, but then I read a lot of people advising against that manufacturer in this forum.

I haven’t had a single issue with the cable as of today, though.

This question keeps arising.....order from ebay (china) you should have it in about 7 days (despite the estimate)....;)
Plus the cable quality is top notch.

I realised that I already have 2 cables which go from mini 6 pin pic-e to standard 6 pin to power my 5770s. I found this other cable which should arrive much quicker which does dual 6-pin female to 8 pin male. If this looks like the right one for the job then I'll buy it and order the slow chinese one. When the chinese one arrives I can replace these and I'll be able to sell my 5770s with the cables.

So does this look right?

I found another one which offers 1 day delivery:

Mojave (build 18A389) installs fine with VEGA FE, clean install. Graphic card fan stays at 2.000 RPM though, unless you play a HEVC file and pause it.

Yes, that is the type of cable I am using for my GTX 1080.

USB install on the latest Mojave with a GTX 680 does not work unfortunately.
The installer incorrectly states that a Metal card is needed despite the 680 being fully compatible with Mojave.

Upgrading from High Sierra works fine however.

I wonder if it does this with other cards when in the USB installer

since in the USB environment I dont think theres any GPU acceleration going on.

it might be worth checking out and submitting a bug report on. :) (even if its just GTX 680 specific since we know the 680 can do metal)

The Mac connector is a mini 6-pin connector, the cable you have looks like they are normal 6-pin connectors. I'm going to be using two cables which go from mini 6-pin to standard 6-pin and then a dual female 6-pin to male 8-pin. Looks like that cable you have is male on both ends so I don't know if you'll be able to get adaptors to make it work.

If you want a single cable which does it all then this seems to be the right one. They say it'll take a month but others have said it arrives in a week:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/16-18-AW...var=651312063323&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649

That listing has 3 types, I picked the one called "16 AWG GTX1080 cable".

At this point I'm thinking about buying a few hundred of the correct cable and selling them on eBay myself.

I think I've found a UK based seller for the mini 6-pin to standard 6-pin:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Mini-6-P...-Card-18AWG-/322640293794?hash=item4b1edc2fa2

And these UK based guys sell the dual female 6-pin to 8-pin cable:

I've got my cables and it's installed but now I have some other issues.

1st of all when I saw a video of this installation the "SAPPHIRE" on the side of the card lit up when powered. Mine doesn't and the logo doesn't look as if it's lit so is this just down to a different version of the card?

Now my problems, I have two Dell U2414H monitors connected up via Display Port and a Sony TV via a DVI -> HDMI cable.

There seems to be a problem on my Dell monitors, both of them have red and green around text.
My TV is even worse, it has a magenta cast all over it.

Any ideas?

Edit: Turning off font smoothing and logging out and back in fixed the colours around the fonts. But now I'm not sure if the text is more difficult to read, think I just need to play with the sharpness setting on the monitors. Still can't fix the colour cast on the TV. Might try HDMI->HDMI cable next.

Yes definitely worth trying to avoid converters if you can. Not sure if this is applicable in your case but worth a try maybe if the color cast doesn't clear up by using the HDMI output: https://www.mathewinkson.com/2013/0...ix-the-picture-quality-of-an-external-monitor

Thanks, yes switching to HDMI fixed the colours.

I'm still not happy with the text on my monitors. I'll run a fresh calibration on all of them and see if that helps.
I am happy with the performance though, everything feels faster including FCP. Hopefully that'll get even better when they bring out a version that uses Metal 2 on Mojave.

One thing I was hoping to do as soon as I installed it was to buy Pixelmator Pro as it needs a Metal compatible card. Turns out there is no way for them to check if a Metal card is available so you can't buy it on an older Mac Pro. I'll buy it on my MacBook Pro and copy it across.
