In a van down by the river
Hi everyone, I've been a Mac Rumours reader for many years and after a short time lurking on the forums I've decided to join what seems to be an amazing group of users.

I've been using the Mac most of my life and I'm now fully in the Apple eco-system. I use Apple products for work and play and I'm attempting to drag my family along with me :)
Welcome to the forum family.

This will be a bit of a test... Another of these threads started with good intentions... but was soon taken over by regulars.

if you just joined MacRumors, reply and introduce yourself.

This is only for new Macrumors users... only users who registered within two months of the current date may reply...

All other users posts will be deleted. (moderators, please enforce this). This will be for myself included... only comments by truely "new" users will be allowed in this thread.

Discuss away...

(this could fail miserably if no one replies :) )

Greetings form the land of the 12 Olympians.
Long time guest here (musician & electronic DIYer)interested mostly on technical posts
about OS since Apple took Logic X and I always hated Windows after XP anyway^:)
My first IMac was a 2.2 DVDSE and after many many years an Imac 24" 9.1 .Not to mention the hacks in between.^:)
Used almost anything from Tiger to Catalina but for old low end machine Snow Leopard is the best IMHO.
Joined here just to say a big thank all people in the forum who share infos otherwise hard to obtain.
I wish I could help so.
Great informative forum

Hi everyone. I finally joined the forums here after years of only reading articles and forum posts. I have been more of a long-time iPhone owner than an iPad, Apple Watch, AppleTV, and MacBook owner. Those are the current Apple products I have right now.

Hi! I am a long time macrumors reader from the UK. I have been using Macs since 2006 and the iPhone since 3G launch day.

My current set up is 2010 iMac, 2015 Retina MacBook, iPhone 7, Apple Watch 3, Apple TV HD and I have a few AirTags on the way...

I am keen to replace both the iMac and the MacBook with whatever the new generation of MacBook Pro is later in the year. I'll likely pick up an iPhone 13 Mini on launch day too - I would have got a 12 Mini last year, but was saving money for an Apple Silicon MacBook Pro, but held off as wanted the "workstation" grade processor.

Hi everyone, I've also been a long time Reader in this forum now. I got my first Mac back in 2012, it was a iMac G3 DV SE in Graphite with 500 MHz (It's a cool Machine ).

My current Fleet is a Mac Pro 2010 hooked up to a Apple Cinema Display 30" and a 23" Apple Cinema Display Acrylic, a 2016 MacBook Pro 15, an iPhone 8 Plus, a Apple Watch Series 3, my iPod 5.5 80 and some other Macs like my PowerMac G4 Yikes/PCI, an Early 2008 MacBook, My mentioned iMac G3 and an eMac.

As you might see I really like older Macs, I personally think they are very Cool and good for some older Programs, also you always have a Nostalgic Feeling when using a old Mac.

I really like this forum and I hope to be a part of it,
Pierre

(I'm sorry for this weird Grammar I'm from Germany and my MacBook wants to write everything with a capital letter😂)

Hi Pierre, I kind of wish I had kept my iBook G3, which was my first Mac. I sold it in 2007, for what I paid for it 2 years before when I got the white plastic MacBook that replaced it.

Hi Lewis, I would probably think the same if I would have sold my iMac. What iBook G3 Model was it? Was it a Snow or a Clamshell?

Yeah, it's a really cool and powerful Machine (For it's Age), my Mom had one also in like 2007. It was the first Mac in the Family, sadly it died due to the Graphical Issues these can have.

I turned it on recently and it started. But after I used it a little bit, the Hard Drive was getting warm and then the iBook was freezing. (The Hard Drive is on Top of the Graphics Card and when the Hard Drive is getting warm, the Graphics Card too and the Graphics Card stops working)

Howdy All.

I've been involved with *nix based systems for what seems like 100 years. At one time I was coding with OSF Motif for Unix workstations and servers. My first hands-on exposure to a Mac was when someone handed me a PowerBook back in the 90's that had been found in the trash and asked me to break into it for them.

After the death of Unix workstations, I've been pretty much stuck with Windows due to the nature of the beast but always lived by the adage that "friends don't let friends use Microsoft" so when the opportunity arose for me to get a MacBook for work, I jumped at the chance to use something linux based. After two weeks of using it, I ditched my PC at home for my own MacBook Pro and I've been a slappy ever since - everything Apple.

I still keep an old Dell Inspiron around with Windows for one specific use that isn't available for Mac.

Have been a iMac user since 2007 when the intel processor entered the Picture. I love that I can keep iMac for 4-5 years before it really get outdated. Got my last iMac 27 inch late 2016. Yesterday I ordered a new M1 iMac 2021 24 inch. Can't wait until May 21... I've been lurking in this forum for over 10 years. Have a question about how to put my equipment on the bottom of the page.

Hi, I'm Jim. New to this forum. I currently have an Ipad Pro and have on order the new iMac 24" with the M1 chip. This will be my first iMac so I will be delving into the use of the device. My delivery isn't scheduled until June, so I will have some time to see what software will be available for the new M1 chip. Currently not all of my Adobe products are there, but Microsoft Office is fully compliant. I did have a MacBook I used was back in 2011 when I worked at JPL. Most of my working career was with Unix and Linux with a spattering of Windows. Since retiring, Windows has been my primary use. Looking forward to meeting and sharing with other users here.

Newb ~ Real name is Pete. I got a 2011 MBP and I'm determined to get Big Sur installed and running smoothly with my newly installed (by me) 480 PNY SSD. I was a Linux / Win 10 guy last week when a 29" TV fell and performed a few cartwheels directly onto my Acer Touchscreen notebook shattering the display. So I pulled out the MBP and installed Lion on the 480 PNY SSD that I had just dropped inside. Recovered an old iCloud account and here I am. Anything at all to guide me to this goal is appreciated. No hurdles to jump or hoops to navigate please. I want to hear how I CAN do it. Please don't rain on my parade with boring information on how I can't do it. I heard there's an OpenCore Legacy that will work but I spent half the day looking for the BS 11.0 download before realizing that it has to be patched before I can acquire it. I tried the first install commands in terminal but I'm doing something wrong. Remember, I'm new to Mac. I've got a couple of backup 'puters so I won't be grounded if I fail a few times.

Thanks in advance if you happen to help me in the future.

Composed on MacBook Pro 2011 / 10.7.5 OS

Greetings everyone!! Another rather long time, and appreciative lurker here. Fun for me to finally register, and be able to post, contribute, and acknowledge the great help being offered here.
I have been into Mac’s for the past several years — currently still have and using — a 2010 iMac, mid-2015 MacBook Pro, and 2016 iPad Mini 4 — like me, all are a touch past their prime. Hopefully planning to do some replacements soon, but still unsure ‘when’ , or with ‘what’.
Cheers!

Greetings everyone! I've been reading the site and lurking the forums forever but I haven't really been this big into Apple until recently. From a business perspective, it seems like Apple are moving in the right direction while the rest of the tech industry is all over the place and I'm interested in seeing where they'll end up if they can continue down this path. I personally saw the 2010s as a highly transitional period for them in which they lacked a clear direction, so I'm happy to see they're now moving ahead in several key areas in which they can strongly influence the industry. I've been discussing a lot on Reddit and privately with fellow tech industry observers so I thought I'd join to get some more perspectives. Cheers!
