This will be a bit of a test... Another of these threads started with good intentions... but was soon taken over by regulars.

And 19 years later the test is still inconclusive? I guess that means it didn't "fail miserably".

Hi! Just sayn' :)

Laughing out loud. So hello… I’ve been watching MR regularly since December 2020 just never saw the need to create an account until recently. I am fascinated by some of the experts on this site, and I look forward to learning everything I can from their posts.

New member, but been making some serious upgrades to many MacPro’s, iMacs and MacBooks thanks to the information and hard work of members here. Most recently the 2011 iMac GPU upgrade thread.

Current builds;
- 2009 MacPro, 12x 3.46, 128gb ram, RX 580 8gb, NVMEboot ::: Next on the upgrade list; opencore with hwacceleration and Pixlas mod for Vega or 5700XT when GPU’s go down again.
- 2012 15” MacBook Pro, 2.7ghz QC, SSD and DVD delete, 16gb Ram. Wouldn’t mind trying opencore and Big Sur on a second SSD atleast till I know everything is stable and working.
- 2011 27” iMac, 3.4ghz QC, SSD and 770m 3gb, which required a lot of learning from this place, a new dremel, @xanderon linux USB, a bios flash from @Nick [D]vB, and again an upcoming opencore install to enable hwaccel.
- 2009 MacMini, as my ‘Apple TV’ running Mojave. Thanks to @dosdude1 ! If I get comfortable with OC I might try to enable HWA on this as the only browser I can watch Netflix as of recently is FireFox.

I’ve been flipping macs since about 3 months into covid, when someone gave me a 2010 MacBook with a dead battery, threw in an SSD, a new battery and sold it for more than enough. Since then I’ve baked an AMD GPU (2011 iMac), disabled 2011 15” MBP GPU, built 4 MacPros for friends and clients. Upgraded MP 6,1. Upgraded a ton of iMacs, 2011/12/13 almost entirely with spare parts. Most recently with the preflashed cards from Nick via eBay, but then scored 2x 770m cards on marketplace for peanuts. So forced myself to learn to code*.

If any of the folks I’ve mentioned read this, thank you sincerely. I will be making donations to the places I can find!

tl;dr

Thanks to everyone here. Doubt I can add much knowledge wise, but might be able to answer some questions from experience.

I suppose you could call me a newbie! I chose to pursue a career that I love while using a Mac - painting, creating, and editing! :)

Hello, world! Just joined the forum last week...'been a regular MacRumors reader since 2015...finally decided it was time to join the forum. I have an unhealthy amount of Apple products in the house--sometimes the wife reminds me of that :)
I have a background in IT Support (I mainly support macOS and iOS as opposed to Windows)...looking forward to offering my advice on the forum to anyone that needs, and also looking forward to learning a lot from the many experienced people here!

Howdy, lets be honest with you all:
I'm not here for the global "better social experience" but because I'm looking for appropriate answers to practical problems. Having said that, it is precisely the social aspect of it - the number of different points of views and accumulated knowledge - that makes this sort of gathering interesting.
Enjoy your WE, Phil

Just joined the forums after lurking for maybe 3-4 years. I'm a huge Apple fan and about 4 years deep into the ecosystem

Hey guys, just joined. Been reading articles here for a few months - after I got a job selling Apple stuff.

Always was a PC/Windows girl but now have myself 2 iMacs (older ones, mid 2010 27in & a 2006 17in, probably going to hunt down a G3, G4 & G5 too for the hell of it), probably going to add a 2014/2015 Macbook Pro Retina and iPhone 12 to the collection soon to replace my old Samsung laptop and Galaxy S9!

Hello. I have been reading your forum for a long time. A lot of useful information, thank you very much. You have a very kind and smart team. Please excuse me for my English, I am studying it recently.

Hello! Been reading these forums and news for years and only now decided to register. Working in IT, using macOS, iOS, Windows ;) and formerly Android which I dropped in favor of iOS mainly due to frustration of waiting for those OS updates during iPhone 5S times when ever that was. Also a former BeOS user. Hmm what else.. never was a fan of skeuomorphic design in iOS, glad that was ditched. Looking forward to forums discussions!

I've dabbled in Linux for some years, and bought an iPad, then a MacbookPro, about which I have mixed feelings.
Hopefully, after posting some elementary questions here, I shall grown to like it a bit more

Hey everyone!

I’ve been an avid reader of these forums for many years. But I've never been able to post until recently. I spent the last ten years working for Apple which actually prohibited discussion of rumours and leaks 😅

Really excited to be able to share my perspective on stories as an ex insider. I have lots of things I’ve wanted to say but until now couldn’t!

Looking forward to chatting with more of you 😊

New member here. I have been a Mac user for years and upon release of the M2 MacBook Pro, I finally said goodbye to my 2013 MacBook pro. My day job is a software engineer and a Macbook pro is one of the best tools to keep up with demands of my personal and professional life. I sell real estate on the side and create posts, infographics, videos etc and it has always been a MacLife for me.
