Newbie!

Hi everybody

I'm new at this forum. I thought it was a matter of politeness to introduce myself at the members of this forum. But I didn't find a subforum where I could do this...so I'll do it here...

First of all, I'm from Belgium, so, if my English is kinda strange, you know why. :D

I've been hanging around here for quite a whil now. I often search the net for cool wallpapers, and its well known that Mac-users have great taste. So I automatically landed here. When I convinced my father to buy me a laptop (we split costs on the excuse that i'll use the laptop when I go to university ;)), I wanted to buy a Mac, but eventually there was a sale in "Aldi" (a cheap store in Europe) with a good laptop for a very reasonable price, so I bought that one.
md42200.jpg

It's a great pc, only too bad that WinXP is on it. I really wanted an Apple :(. To compensate for the Win-pc I bought a iPod Mini. Very cool thing, but I'm not too happy with it. The sound is not that well, especially not the low sounds.

Anyway, I have changed my desktop to make it look like a mac, just to give me at least a bit of the wonderful macfeeling you guys experience everyday. Changing your desktop to a mac is kinda wannebe, but what the heck. (I've made sure there's no Apple-icon in the skin, wich makes it less wannebe :p)
Here's a picture of my current desktop (just, with a wallpaper wich is placed on this site)
http://www.vtm.be/autowereld/forum/album_pic.php?pic_id=7781

So I do not have a Mac....yet! I've seen that Apple is making their products more and more competitive (low prices etc.), so I'm sure, that one day -when i've got the money- I will buy one of those shiny white things. :D

Some facts of me: I'm 17 years old (in March 18), I'm a college student in Belgium, I'm a Mac-fan (du-uh), I like running, cars (my nickname is the same as the one I use on a car-forum),...I'll stop here. This is not a weblog.

(If this has to be deleted or replaced because this thread doens't belong here: OK)

[From the moderator: It's now in the proper thread! Welcome!]

I've been lurking around the site for quite a while and finally decided that it was time i joined the mac loving faithful. I have always used macs thanks to my dear mother, unfortunately she has fallen off the band wagon and has been forced by our evil school district to use a dell.

The first mac i can remember having was a macintosh classic, which stayed in use til i cut grass and did other odd jobs to buy my own tangerine imac 333Mhz with 160 mb ram. And that lasted until i graduated from hs and was given an ibook g3 and finally continues with the 1ghz G4 emac i bought for my mom.

I didnt even use a pc until i was a senior in hs. How strange is that.

You've got another newbie

Hello,

My name is Lisa. I registered about a month ago.
It took me this long to get around to this.

My husband bought me a new laser mouse, & a new zip drive.
I purchased a new laser printer & a 18" flat moniter, too.Yes, I have been a "good girl" for the holidays.
I moved my equipment from one room to another & had to start all over again hooking things up. (what a job!)
I could'nt get help from my hubby because he does'nt know much about computers.
I'm not a beginner any longer;however, I still need some help sometimes, with those "computer problems" that most of us are plagued with.

Later.

Lisa

Hey Guys. I have been a member for almost a month now. I have been lurking for 2 years though. I never thought of joining but now I have more free time, so I joined.

In case you didn't know, Otto Rehhagel is the coach of the Greek National Soccer team. He was the German who took a Greek team to win the UEFA EURO 2004 Cup. I admire his leadership and his courage. So I borrowed his name for a while...

Just joined today, but I've been scanning the boards for few months. My primary interests are photography, mountain biking, and snowboarding. I've been snowboarding up at Heavenly a few times per week because I have 4 internet college classes (didn't like commuting last semester).

Thanks for operating such a great site-keeps me up to date on all the rumors and product releases. I can't wait for the new iMac, but I have to since I have no money, and my math class requires a PC for MATHXL.

Hi everyone. I was infected last year with the Apple bug which resulted in me buying an iBook G4 1.2Ghz 12" last year for uni and have since then, bought an iPod Mini 4GB (2nd Gen) too! I will probably add a Mac mini to my collection sometime next year and hopefully completely rid myself of Windows PCs!

Anyways, about myself: I'm currently a 3rd year student studying Psychology at Oxford University and I can speak Italian and a little bit of French.

Hello...

ok, I'll bite too :D

found this site by means of google (what else?) - I was looking for an answer to something about my powerbook; I found a wealth of info here and couldn't help but upgrade the lurker status and join the ranks... so, here we are.

iBlue, my screename, is a simple play on my actual name: Blue (yes, I am serious) and since my name is totally androgynous I'll announce that, yes, ladies and gentlemen... it is a girl. It appears I'm a "minority" in a primarily male forum; however that is probably a good thing, less BS. ;)

Now onto the hardware...
I'm relatively new to mac  but I feel the conversion is complete; love at first click. I have a 17 inch powerbook G4, and I plan to move from the lap to get a desktop (no firm decisons on what kind yet) sometime soon.

so, composed at almost 2am and nearly spent, there's my intro... it's official.

Brand new here

I just registered at these forums five minutes ago, so am a complete newbie here.

I've been using Macs since 1986 or so, and currently have four Macs running on my wireless network at home, and one Mac in my office at work. The Macs range from my own baby, a dual 2 GHz G5, to my old Bondi Blue Rev A iMac (still plugging away on OS 9.2). My wife uses my old laptop, a PDQ PB. I've been negotiating with her to have her change to OS X and a new laptop, but she likes things that she's familiar with, and the change will not be easy. My son has a fairly new iBook, which he loves to death. But he really wants to move up to a PB because the iBook isn't as capable with video as he wants it to be--he has gotten heavily into FC Express.

Anyway, I have been active in a couple of other forums, been disenchanted by some of the antics in them, and am trying to find a forum home to call my own. I hope this is the place.

Hey, I just joined. I've been lurking since back in December or so, but when I tried to register, it wouldn't let me because of my e-mail address. (Yahoo Mail) I got a GMail account and it let me sign up with that.

My first encounter with an Apple computer was back in grade school (around '91, '92 or so) when I used to play Oregon Trail and other games on one at school.

All of the computers we had at home when I was a kid were DOS, then finally Windows 3.1 and 95. I got my own first computer, a POS Compaq in 2000 and that I had SO much trouble out of that. It was around that time that I spotted a Mac Addict magazine in a bookstore and I was amazed at how different they looked and how much different the OS was.

A couple of months after that, I was in a store (can't remember which one) and they had iMacs and iBooks on display and I looked at them, but my parents were in a hurry, so I didn't get to play around with them or anything.

Well, a few months after that, the Compaq completely died on me. (I'm not sure what exactly happened to it, as I wasn't too good with computers at the time, but I know it wouldn't boot up anymore) This was only about a year after I got it. I think part of the reason was that I was pretty dumb when it came to maintaining computers and viruses probably killed it. (I didn't even have a virus scan on a Windows PC!!)

My friend's uncle had a custom built PC with a 500mhz Celeron, 128mb RAM, 32mb Rage 128 Pro video card that he sold me for only $200, which I thought was a great deal at the time. He just put my CDRW drive and 30gb HD from the Compaq in that computer.

Well, I used that for a couple more years and then in December, '03 it was time to buy a new computer. I wanted to buy a iMac G4, 'cause I thought they were they coolest computers I'd ever seen, but for some reason, I let my friend talk me into just getting this guy he knew to build me one. It was an AMD Athlon XP 2100+ @ 1.73ghz, 1gb RAM, 120gb HD, Lite-On 16x DVD ROM, Samsung 52x32x52 CDRW drive, 128mb ATI 9800 SE graphics card, and a 15" Toshiba LCD display. I had a lot of problems out of it and in the year I had it, I'd say I formatted it at least 7-8 times, which is totally un-called for.

This brings us to December, '04. Since I was fed up with using Windows, I sold that computer to one of my friends and bought me a refurbished eMac G4. 1.25ghz, 512mb RAM, 160gb HD, Superdrive. What's crazy is, when I ordered it, it said it only had 256mb RAM and an 80gb HD, so I got a GREAT deal on it. It was only $846 w/ tax.

I'm totally hooked now. I'll never go back to Windows. Mac OS X is FAR superior. So far, this is the best computer I've ever owned.

Just recently, I also picked up a 4gb iPod Mini in Green, and now I'm totally amazed by it, as well. :)

Anyway, sorry for writing a novel, but I just figured I'd tell my story on how I became a Mac user.

New to the forum, but not to Mac... I've been a diehard since 6th grade or so, when my dad got a 128K Mac. In college, I had a Color Classic (LOL - I thought my upstairs neighbor in the dorm was cool, bc he could aford a Quadra! ah, 1993...)

I guess my 15" G$ PowerBook means I've come up in the world :D; still running Jaguar, but that's supposed to change tomorrow by 4:30pm!

Hi. I'm new here. Been here a couple of weeks, haven't posted in thsi thread to introduce myself.

Dispite my name, I'm actually a white male. I smoke more than a circus-monkey, I love technology, video games, art, music, romance, drama, and kung-fu. My nickname actually comes from an Anime series named Great Teacher Onizuka, as I look just like him. Strange, I know, but that's what I get for having geeky friends.

I have a modded XBox (funny enough, that I didn't purchase, so no, I haven't bought a product from MicroShaft), a Powermac G4, a 2nd Gen iPod, and am down to hang out at coffee shops, bars, out and about in the city, and meet new people.

Aggressive and cold at fir meeting (they say its a defense mechanism from child-hood) and a puppy once known. I'm a realist, not religious, as I have faith in God but not religion.

Hmm. What else? Well, I like helping the newcomers (don't like using the term "noob" unless you start crap) and will go to great lengths to do so.

Hope to get to know you all, and have a good time.

Hey. I am new to the MacRumors community. I have been lurking the forums daily for over 2 years. (Long time, wouldn't ya say?) Anyway, MacRumors helped me decide when to buy my 12" PowerBook in 2003. I hope to become an active and helpful member to this great community. I have been to only a few forums in my internet life, mainly becuase the majority of forums have too many leet speaking kiddie hackers that annoy me really badly. But from the two years I've been a daily lurker, I can tell that there's hardly any of that nonsense here.

I hope to buy a PowerMac or iMac in the next few months, I hope you guys (and gals) can help me decide. I have not completely switched, but only because of money issues. (It's kinda hard to get a lot in a short time)

My real name is Kyle, but you can call me evilinsanity or Kyle or anything you'd like. I do skip to different things in my writing as you can probably tell, but I hope I don't confuse you too terribly. Oh yeah, I can spell entirely great sometimes.
