Hi all!
Like many, I've been lurking for a couple of months, and have been trying to register here for a while, but the site didn't like my hotmail address... But fr some reason, registration with the same address worked fine on a PC...
I was introduced to Macs at Uni while on a 10 week digital animation course (If I think about it, my first Mac encounter was when I managed the school savings club when I was 7 lol). We had a room full of eMacs to play with, and got to work.... I had bought a PC for £519 before I came to Uni to help with typing, projects etc, but this had become diseased and riddled with viruses due to the lack of protection on my building's network. The 'net always ran slowly on the PC, until one day, about 3 weeks into the term, it stopped working altogether...
I was getting more and more interested in Macs since I loved the ease of producing media on them, plus the sheer novelty of making some photoshop images, and within a couple of hours having an animation (using FCP) as a DVD with an interactive menu and designed cover. I was gagging for a 17" PowerBook (as I suppose many new switchers do
) , so when I saw a poster in Uni for a 700mhz eMac, I thought "I'll get an Apple to see how it goes..." and I had to have it! It cost £200, and is the best computer I've ever owned
. I was sceptical about plugging the network cable into it since it took me over 30mins to alter settings on my PC in order to make it work, however one night I wanted to read MacRumors (the night 1.67mhz PB's were announced) so I gave it a shot... In went the cable, and up came the homepage! NO settings to change whatsoever! I was up until some crazy hour, constantly refreshing pages as more and more news came in about them, and I've been hooked ever since!
Oh and btw- my name... I ride mountain bike trials (see videos on
http://www.trials-forum.com - these should explain), and the key move is when you press down on the pedal, balance the bike on the back wheel, then kick and jump, going forwards to land on the rear wheel. This is called a "Lunge", and the name is meant to be 'someone who lunges'. I thought "Lunger" looked a bit weird, so I changed it to "Lunja" and here I am today! (eagerly awaiting Steve Jobs' WWDC Keynote... lol)
