Right behind you.
This seems a bit silly since I've been hanging around reading, smirking, harumphing, grimacing, and occasionally staring blankly at threads for about a year now. Anyway, I joined up officially a couple months ago and have enjoyed spouting off and getting cheeky ever since. I was raised on apples starting with the IIe and progressing through the SE's I used in gradeschool, the performa 545 as our first family computer, the iMac DV edition I mooched off my girlfriend, a 400MHz G4 powermac I pretty much gave away earlier this year, to the 1.25GHz G4 dualie my wife owns now (not the aforementioned gf, this one I had to ween off PC's). I still have an Apple II along with Mario Brothers and Moon Patrol on 5.25's, though :D I hope to have many interesting conversations with all of you. Well, maybe not all x-thousand of you, but the majority.

Cheers

By the way, what's with all the hellicopter beanie avatars I'm seeing lately? I noticed Doctor-Q suddenly decided to sport one, too.
I have no idea. I think it's like a Mexican Wave: it just spreads along the line, and nobody knows where it starts. I'm a CO, myself.

Hi... and welcome. Love the name — want to think that you're referring to a item of footwear, not an item of underwear. :D

Well, after months of reading through the huge 16 page threads about the news items... I thought I might try to break in over here.

A bit about me: I enjoy doing graphic design as a hobby (and nothing more, I'm not good enough to make money off of it), I am a huge mac fanatic (like everyone else who tries one without prejudice), I own an ibook and an ipod mini (yeah so I'm not that crazed, but I'm also short on cash), I'm a Junior in high school, etc.

So anyways, what goes on around here?

I lurked for a long time in the forums, a couple years anyway, 'cause I hate registering for stuff. But I finally joined up a few weeks ago so I could post during the lead-up to Paris. I became another voice in the unholy chorus of PowerBook whiners--the lifeblood of MacRumors. Are they coming this Tuesday? How about next Tuesday? Are they coming at Paris? No! Damn Apple! etc. etc. From there I got progressively more involved and enjoyed reading other stuff going on. Still waiting on that PowerBook update though...

I just came across this thread and thought I'd introduce myself as well.

I am a fairly recent college graduate and I'm currently working as a network administrator for a company in Texas. I switched to the Mac (at home) just over a year ago, when I was blessed with the gift of a PowerMac G5. I love it and have learned a lot about it and OS X since then. The fact that I am familiar with Macs actually helped land me the job I have now.

I've been a frequent contributor/member of only one tech other forum, but I've enjoyed this one very much in the short time I've been coming here. I hope to contribute and help out as much as possible. Thanks for all of the great info and enjoyable reading I've come across so far! :D

fairly new as well

Hi there everyone!

I'm new to the forums...I've posted a little in some of the other threads, asking mac questions and what not...
I bought my first mac (IBook) back in July (RIGHT before they updated the new Ibooks-that was a bummer, but I got a refund) and so far, I absolutely love the thing! It was difficult at first, switching to a mac, but after I got used to it, and learned how to use it properly (which I'm still learning), I discovered that macs really are very simple to use and fun too.
I consider this computer a damn good investment on my part and I don't think I'll ever regret it. It does everything I need it too, and it's not too fancy or too powerful, so I definitely don't think I'm wasting it...
I also REALLY love this forum. The people are generally friendly and VERY helpful, which is nice, because I'm still learning and so I sometimes ask questions that I know are stupid, but everyone is polite and patient when they respond.
I'm glad I stumbled upon this place.
Send a message to say "hi" if you feel like it!
:) :) :)

This is what I've been looking for!

Hey everyone. My name's Monica and I'm from Orlando, FL (within Hurricane Wilma's projected path, yikes!). I've been a mac user for about 5 years. I started with an iMac, then a Powerbook, and just recently an iBook. I've been reading the site for awhile but was a bit hesitant to type any messages of my own until I understood the dynamic of macrumors a little more and also learned a bit more about Macs.

I'd never posted to any forum ever before macrumors! I'm still learning and got a little help from a few nice members on here.

I'm kinda learning as I go. I was going to start a thread called "Crash Course for Newbies" but now I've come across this thread so it seems that the mods had already thought of that! :)

Here's what I know so far and maybe it will help at least one newbie out there.

First of all, click on the FAQ in the top lefthand corner. It will answer a lot of questions and save you from having to embarass yourself by asking others silly questions.

Secondly, this site uses vB code. If you're at all familiar with HTML then it'll be pretty easy to use. Here's a list of codes which shows you how to italicize, make urls clickable, link to threads, etc. vB Codes. It's kinda fun to look through the list and learn something new.

Thirdly, you can't get an avatar (those neat photos under the names) until you've posted 500 times. You begin as a mac newbie, then a mac member and then a mac regular. After that it seems to go through a series of numbers ending with Demi-God/Goddess.

Fourthly, if you don't stay on topic you (or at least your thread anyway) get sent to the Wasteland (basically, you get axed). It's also great to read through some of the Wasteland threads, especially when some members have fun with the obviously Wasteland-doomed topic.

Fifthly (is that a word?), you should never make posts as lengthy as the one I'm writing now because no one will read it. Hehe. If you've gotten this far, then that's just cool.

I still don't know all that much, but that's what i do know! Good luck everyone! ;)

Btw...

BTW, after that last posting I've now been upgraded to Macrumors member. So that must mean that after 30 postings you get bumped up. Just a tip for you newbies!

The poor section of Connecticut
Hi everyone! I've been using a mac for 2 years now. Back then my boyfriend and I decided we would get 2 computers. One desktop and one laptop for vacations, etc. Surprisingly, the only 2 companies we could obtain decent financing for were HP and Apple. He bought his HP desptop and by default I got the Apple. At that point I had no idea about how different the apples are from the pcs. I didnt even know they had a different OS!! When I received my iBook G3 14" I was instantly blown away. Up to that point I had only dealt with pcs. I had come to the conclusion that computing was just a pain in the neck. Until the first time I turned on my iBook. Being an average computer user, I couldn't believe how easy it was to set up and run. I've never had any problems with the OS and everything is just so simple. I still have a lot to learn and am really glad to have joined this forum. Since doing so I've already learned quite a bit, and laughed quite a bit as well :p
