Sheltering from Olympic coverage overdose, I thought I should hide here and get some practical pointers on my collection of things-Apple.
Ive just taken delivery of my MBA 11" and Im besotted with it. How did I ever think that a 3Kg 13" IBM circa 1998 was the 'last word' in portability.

Hey guys! Been lurking here for a long time. Finally decided to join tonight. I've been using Macs since 2010 and I will never go back to Windoze, hence my choice of username. I'm a law student. Looking forward to posting here on MR

Hi all. I'm another lurker turned new member (have been lurking for the last 18 months or so - since the lead-up to the 4S). With the impending opening of the first official Apple store in the capital city of Australia, Canberra - tip submitted - it seemed like the right time.
To tell a little of my interests in MR: Have been using iPhones for the last 3 years. I came to them after being disappointed with a competing smartphone of the time, the Nokia N95. I still remember what a breath of fresh air it was!
More recently I've been eying off the MacBook Pros with the death of my venerable Asus. I'm waiting for a suitable in to go all-Apple and start iOS development. Was hoping for a retina 17", but so far no joy. Maybe the Haswells will offer it..
Anyways, looking forward to being part of the community

I have , as of yesterday, become the repair team for a Macbook, A1181, circa 2007. Its is white and I have no idea what OS it ran on.
OPtion R at startup leads to a pretty rendidition of a EFI Boot, (and Photo!).
Where do I post this, help please.

Last night at 2:24 AM, I preordered a iPhone 5, and Apple says it will be delivered on 9/21. I'm looking forward to receiving it.

They say the only stupid question is the one which isn't asked I'm new to macrumors, but I know a bit about them, and I've searched within them a lot (even through search engines); almost all of the problems I've encoutered using Linux and Mac OS have been answered, simply because someone else asked an apparently "stupid" question. Don't be afraid to. Someone will have had the same problem I or you have had and been answered (how many millions of computer users are out there!). Ask specific and intelligent questions, yes, but don't think if you have a little software or hardware problem that you're the only one. Keywords save time!!
I've been munching on apples for a while now ("PC" you later!), and one of the biggest reasons I continue to do so is precisely because of these kinds of forums. This seems like a really great one.

The slippery slope started with an iPad2. From there it was a logical choice to ditch the crackberry and get an iPhone. My dilemma now is my ancient desktop is in dire need of replacing. Money is such that it will allow me to buy me dream iMac and I really don't want to spent $3000 only to have a new iMac released shortly afterwards. I doubt I'll ever be able to do it again so I want to make sure I do the right thing. So I'll patiently wait and see what happens over the next month. If nothing looks like it will be launched then I will rethink fully switching to Apple. At the very least I can redo my laptop and limp a long a little longer if I have to, but I'd rather not spend a long Canadian winter with an old computer. A spring iMac launch would really suck as I'd rather be outside in the spring and not spending it indoors playing with a new toy.
