Hey all!

Long time lurker, first time poster. :)

I am hoping to sell my current PC to get the new MBP's that will be comin' out soon. I'm just waiting for the perfect time to sell...and that day CANNOT come soon enough! Man, I've been waiting for a good month now. It's so hard! Seriously..WWDC can't come soon enough!

haha I was going out on a limb that maybe the joke would catch on.

In other news, Lenovo T-61's are out utilizing santa rosa. There's a review on notebookreview.com

This is probably my 2nd or third choice machine for school next year.

I just saw this posted. I hope that will jump start Intel on something. It isn't known when it will come out, but since they are using ATI logic board I imagine it will have really good performance.

Intel jump started AMD. AMD laptops have been far behind Intel for quite a while now. Intel is by far the innovator.

Hey

Sorry... Im not familiar with Apple or Mac updates... what are the chances that if they update the mbp on tuesday that they update again at WWDC?

i know it sounds strange and imo they most def wont do this for logical reasons but id like to know what u guys think

I was thinking more along the lines of the graphics portion. I found out that Sony has the same ability using Intel chipsets. But yes you are right AMD has been lacking in the Mobile space for a while now.

AMD's developments into split power planes for the processor cores and memory controller is a revolutionary way to manage and reserve power consumption. While i myself am a C2D notebook owner (HP DV9005TX) this baby is certainly power hungry, and on the road, i'm lucky to get 1.5 hours of battery life. Currently, the only option with Intel is Speedstep, which reduces the CPU speed only to reserve power consumption.

While i know Intel has further developed their sleep states C1 to C3, this doesn't really allow for the total shutting down of cpu cores, and also doesnt manage individual power supplies to memory controllers and CPU.

Unfortunately, for AMD, only real world benchmarks will determine how effective it really is.
From what I have read Intel isn't set to fix this issue (lack of separate power requirements for the cores, memory controller, and FSB) until Nelahem.

I'm a newbie but I would have thought the chances of this happening were slim to non-existent. If they update the Macbook Pro on Tuesday then I wouldn't expect another update until the Autumn/Winter (perhaps around Leopard?).

Just my 0.0394935 USD

I was in the local Apple store earlier, I really hope they fix the screens in time for the next update, because the MBP screens really were quite poor.

So Apple I hope you're listening :

SR
Ugraded graphics
new screens
LED backlights

all in time for WWDC and a price drop

kthx :D

A month? Try waiting over 8 for a SR MacBook just to have that travesty of an update thrust upon you for the next 6 months. I'll have been waiting over a year by the time I finally get my SR MacBook...

Welcome to the waiters lounge though! :D

I'd say most of those are safe bets, except maybe the price drop! :p

Yay!! :D

As long as these things show up in quantity before I go away in July, I'm happy!! :)

Pertaining availability though, how long was it before C2D MBPs were easily available in the US, was it a week or was it a month?

Update : I was just glancing over the new Macbook updates and the 'middle' and 'upper' Macbooks equal and surpass (respectively) the lowest end MBP in everything but graphics, there is no way Apple are gonna leave it like that. The 'upper' Macbook has a larger HDD, pretty sure this has never been the case before.

More evidence of an upcoming MBP update? I hope so, or I'm reading far too much into the situation. :D

Hey! A month is still pretty long for me! Especially when i'm dealing with a messed up PC! :(

But thanks for the welcome! :)

does anyone think the macbook will get santa rosa anytime soon?

I really *really* dont want to spend nearly £1000 on a laptop with GMA950

Sorry dude, but with the Macbooks having just been updated, I really can't see them sticking SR into them before at least late August/September for 'back to school'.

Its really disappointing that they didn't do something about the GMA950 in the most recent upgrade.

But you have to ask yourself, what are you going to use your computer for, and would you really benefit a huge amount from having dedicated graphics?

Well I'm 0 for 1, but I'm gonna go out on a limb here and say I'm excited for this Tuesday...

...yet I still don't feel as hopeful as last Tuesday. :(

Apple 4 Lyfe!

I'm going to study film in college next year and I've been holding myself back all year from buying a MBP, just waiting for these days to come forth and present me with the latest and greatest. So, I too am waiting. I think I've been checking macrumors every hour on the hour since the day they posted that rumor of the laptops being updated last tuesday...

Honestly, I can wait a little longer, but I'd jump up and down if they released on tuesday (which is my last day of high school EVER!). As i'm sure you all know, it's very fun to look forward to something, even if waiting isn't much fun. I once read an article that said that gadget lust is so common because that whole feeling is very addicting.

Anyway, let's hope the updates kick ass, because either way I'm buying a new MBP when they release 'em. As a film guy, I would totally dig a new graphics card, but any upgrade from my G5 single 1.8Ghz will be appreciated...

Oh, and I like the Oregon Trail jokes. I grew up on that game, and still play it on my Mac Classic II. This whole thread makes me very happy.
