Apple's hardware releases are always international. It makes no difference if you buy one from America, Europe or Australia, etc. It may make a difference in shipping times though, for obvious reasons.

Not for the iPhone. It's supposed to be released in Britain next year.

I am aware.

The iPhone is not a Computer. Steve Jobs on changing "Apple Computer Inc." to "Apple Inc.".

The iPhone has to be approved by different countries, and carrier companies have to be found. Not so with Computers.

Apple Computers are always released internationally immediately. End of story.

The iPhone is considered hardware. Computers are a different story, they are a subset of hardware. However, I do agree with you that phones require more in order to get off the ground, and that the two are not truly comparable. I just wanted to show you that "hardware" wasn't the best word in that context.

I've been waiting for a SR macbook since January but none came so I just purchased the updated macbook today! :D

Why is anybody waiting for SR to buy? I fail to see the massive benefit it will give. A slightly higher bus speed, 667 -> 800.

And I think I'm right in saying that the chipset is finally 64-bit, so Leopard can run fully 64-bit.

Apples have had 802.11n networking since last year anyway, so there's nothing there for us; but that's surely the biggest benefit for PC laptops.

Maybe 5-10% better battery life, but surely the LED displays are likely to yield more of a saving than that.

I guess I just can't understand why so many people are blasting Apple for not moving to SR yet, but most consumers wouldn't even know or care about it having SR as much as say having 802.11n networking, which they've had for more than 6 months.

I have the latest revision 17" MBP C2D and I wouldn't even consider upgrading if they bumped it to SR, unless they also fitted an LED screen and overcame the 3gb RAM limit (but then the cost of 2gb sticks is just too high right now) and released Leopard.

*shrug*

Well, the LED screens are supposedly ordered for the 15"s (according to recent rumors), somewhere I read that SR can address 4GB of ram, and Leo is imminent (despite being a little ways off).

Yes, SR can address 4GB of memory. 8GB, actually, though I doubt we'll see that in a laptop anytime soon. The memory addressing is the reason why I'm waiting for the SR update before buying a MBP.

4GB is the max for current SR platform according to Intel Spec Sheet. Intel will release SR refresh in H1 2008 and possibly a second revision of SR MB/MBP around Q1 2008 to allow 4GB+ addressing.

Hmm, they went down from 8GB in the 965 chipset to 4GB for the 965 Express chipset. Oh, well, it will probably be plenty until 4GB SO-DIMMs become available.

Its common logic to not go out and buy a product just before its updated, even if the changes aren't massive you still get more for your money by waiting a little longer.

People are just sick of waiting!

This was my original reason too, but I'm waiting for Leopard at this point.

If I didn't need it for school I'd definitely wait for the leopard refresh (assuming there is one). I'd like to get it in a month or so. I don't want to arrive at school a thousand miles away only to find that I have a defective laptop :)

Oh! for the love of all that is Apple Brand. i don't know how much more disappointment i can take here! i want my MBP now........please?:D

In the start I was mostly waiting for Santa Rosa. But after taking a look at the MBP 17'' my local Mac dealer had on display, I would rather have the displays upgraded to LED backlit(17'') than having Santa Rosa in it

Come on Apple. You can do it! :)

Meaning of course that the display on that mac was rubbish... The screen on my girlfriends cheap ass Medion laptop is way better. I know that some are lucky to get good displays, but I would rather like that Apple used good displays(in general), so that I don't have to depend on my (lack of?!) luck when bying a MBP

I hope it's satire, because if a native speaker writes like that, I'm going to have to go cry in a corner.

No idea what I was thinking when I wrote that, twas at about half 1 in the morning or something.
Fixed now!! :D
I'll pay special attention to it from now on, just for you.

No one answered the 1st part of my question above. Will the 17" MBP see the LED screens at the same time as the 15.4's? I will die if i waited all this time and they shaft the 17" users.
