No one answered the 1st part of my question above. Will the 17" MBP see the LED screens at the same time as the 15.4's? I will die if i waited all this time and they shaft the 17" users.

Reported rumors indicate that only the 15"s have been ordered for a June(?) release. It also indicated that LED's for the macbooks were ordered for a 3rd quarter release. The 17's weren't mentioned at all in the rumor i read.

At this point. . .

I just want any update, even if they ad a weird design to the case and that's all. I am so sick of waiting, and I know there are many others in the same boat. :(

I'm starting to get excited guys. WWDC is really close. So close I can smell it. Can you SMEEELLLLLLLL WHAT STEVE JOBS IS COOKING?

(I know I'm lame)

maybe the 17" LED's are being saved for steve's "One More Thing" ....thing???:p

ugh?!

I waited since the last update, I think I can wait a few more weeks till WWDC even though I am twitching for an update and have been for the past two months, and oh how sad it was when I heard an update was coming and it turned out to be a MB bump up, and oh how even more sad it was when the low end version of the MBP is basically just as good as the high end MB. Sad day it was.

Huh? Some people still think the MBP update will get LED screens? That's just not possible. Manufacturing costs for LED are still too high. Don't get everyone's hopes up, please.

Quite a few laptops are getting them nowadays, and the MBPs are Pro machines, often used by people in the print or video industries, who demand great screens...the only problem is that right now (AFAIK) there aren't 17" LED backlit displays...

Steve did also say that Apple would start with LED displays this year :)

Then why do the only laptops with LEDs right now only have 13.3" displays and cost $3000+ like the Sony SZ models and the upcoming Asus and HPs? Do you know of any affordable notebooks with 15.4" LED displays in the pipeline from any other manufacturer?

I would be happy to be mistaken on this one, but I gotta follow the evidence that's there and draw the conclusions. Its looking to me like only one Apple model will have an LED screen by the end of 2007, and that's the new ultra-portable. It'll probably have a 13.3" display and sell for $2800. That's what SJ was referring to when he said that LED displays would be introduced in 2007.

Stop Eeyore-ing our thread again Tristan. LOL

So, since when has the MBP been affordable???

:D :p ;)

Remember, this is Steve Jobs, who likes Greenies (Personally, I hate Greenies, but that's beside the point) and he's kind of promised to have LED screens in computers soon.

Firstly, the ultraportable is hardly a computer that will sell millions of units. It seems like quite a niche market to me, which is cool, but I think the Greenies would feel ripped off if the only computer to get LED screens was one that doesn't sell, while the hot cake MBPs sell like hot cakes full of bad, bad chemicals.

Secondly, the ultraportable is a rumoured product. It probably doesn't exist. Selling imaginary computers with LED screens doesn't count.

i think that we will see LED's on the 15.4" MBP model since :apple: ordered that size. the 17" on the other hand, i am not so sure:(

Yeah it wouldn't be too smart of apple to order 15.4" LED screens for a 13.3" computer...

In fact, they haven't even ordered the 13.3" yet - that rumor said that those were coming later (or maybe they ordered them with a later shipment date - whichever). So whatever is getting them first has a 15.4" screen. Macbooks were just updated. That just leaves MBP.

So is this the official "Waiting for LED" thread now? :D

OK... Thanks for listening to my arguments. I hope you guys are right. Apple has pulled off industry firsts before so its possible. I think the Superdrive in the Powerbook was an industry first or close to it.

I caved and bought a MB guys. I feel so dirty. But I got the base model with HE discount so Apple probably make very little money off me lol. I fully intend to upgrade once a LED/SR MacBook with Leopard is released later in the year :)

So it turns out I might not wait for SR, but hop on the wagon of people waiting for leopard and penryn..

For school, sure you could do fine with a PBG4 until the Penryn comes out. I'm assuming you're not a video or graphic design student.

I guess I'm not really waiting for Santa Rosa either anymore, now that the MacBooks are out and they didn't get it. Is there a "Waiting for Penryn" thread? We can meet up there. :D
