Sorry dude, but with the Macbooks having just been updated, I really can't see them sticking SR into them before at least late August/September for 'back to school'.

Its really disappointing that they didn't do something about the GMA950 in the most recent upgrade.

But you have to ask yourself, what are you going to use your computer for, and would you really benefit a huge amount from having dedicated graphics?

Yes, I agree. If you don't require heavy-duty 3D graphics, the GMA950 will handle 2D graphics pretty well.

I don't know about another update soon, however. Personally, I believe the last Macbook update was the refresh for the back to school season. I think the next (Macbook) update would come during the fall, at or soon after the release of Leopard, which would be just about right timing for the holiday season sale period. We'll have to wait and see when and what happens exactly with those updates tho'.

Meanwhile, the "old models" of the Macbooks are a pretty deal. The refurbished 2.0Ghz Macbooks are selling now for $999 for the white model, and $1049 for the black version, both w/1GB RAM and superdrive. The old model 1.8GHz white Macbook w/512MB RAM and combo drive is somewhat less. The refurbished Macbook do seem to disappear very quickly from the refurb store however -- you have to grab them early in the AM if you want one. ;)

Nice. I installed it and beat it in 2 hours total. The hunting didn't work for some reason. (The animals wouldn't move and I also shot myself somehow). My descendants tarnished my family name in the end... Bums.

So yeah, SR coming out this next week would be nice.

yes. yes it would be.

I'm hard pressed to find a pc laptop that suits my needs. I love the thinkpads but I would like something with a better GPU...

Quite amazing how excited you are all getting, next tuesday????

Just wait and see!!

Its going to get here at some point, Apple have ordered 100,000 15.4" LED backlit screens.

Intel has just released SR.

The high end Macbooks now equal (and in some aspects) surpass their Pro counerparts.

The update is coming, so lets all calm down and wait patiently like the good fanboys we are!! :D

I like your enthusiasm :) .

Are the MacBook Pro screens really that grainy and bad? What makes them worse than others and how does that affect how we use them?

I hope they come out on tuesday tho! :D

I just bought a new BlackBook 2.16 "ultimate" but I am waiting for Santa Rosa in the MBP. I don't think SR will make it into the MB until late this year.

The whites just seem dirty on the MBP, my G5 iMac has something similar but not as bad.

LOL!! (Crosses fingers) tuesday,tuesday,tuesday,tuesday,etc.etc.etc. :D

maybe not at wwdc?

Hey.

Yesterday I was in an official apple store (Phoenix) and I was talking to a techy there about Santa Rosa coming out at WWDC. He told me that it's very unlikely that the press and the public wil see SR due to all the bugs and what not. He got me thinking and rather upset; I really want SR to be here at WWDC.

So I guess my question is, what is the probability that it will, in fact, be here at WWDC?

I think the only answer is "only Apple knows."

Kinda funny. I was in the Phoenix store 3 days ago, getting my first training session. I mentioned that I would be picking up a MBP to go with my Mac Pro, when the SR-based systems came out. The "trainer" said "you don't have long to wait."

I doubt any of them really know.

haha thats kinda fun... and yes "only Apple knows" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
im looking forward to seeing what will happen in the next few days... as im planning on getting a mbp as well for college

It sucks to keep saying this, but it seems to me that the chances of the Macbook Pro, iMac, Mac Mini and even the Mac Pro all getting updates in the next month are incredibly high.

Exactly what kind of "bugs" was he talking about, because as far as I can see there arn't any.

apple store employees usually do NOT have any advance knowledge about hardware updates. and quite often i find that they are not up to date with the rumors about updates.

since other manufacturers already have santa rosa notebooks out and nobody reported bugs on them i thing that apple sales rep statement is wrong. maybe he just wanted you to buy a current mbp. since wwdc is only 3 or 4 weeks away i would wait anyway.

These could be the bugs from Intel which sometimes required manufacture (e.g. Apple) to resolve issue at BIOS level. In this case, SR platform chipset (namely mobile 965) will need stepping update to resolve these errors.

1. MCH PCI Express* Improper Error Logic Handling
2. Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset family Rare Visual Defect with Intel S2DDT

trigger finger...

Ugh, the anxiety is killing me. I want it to be tomorrow morning. Worst of all will be when I wake up and (possibly) discover no update.

I've never done this whole "buying RIGHT when it comes out" thing before and I have a few questions:
1. If I show up at an Apple store the day after (or even the day after that) they announce, will I be able to buy a new MBP?
2. If I order online right when they release will I have to wait a million years?
3. If I chain myself to Apple headquarters will I get one faster?

And I'm totally bummed I died from snakebite. Guess that's what I get from poking it with a stick...

my local reseller had macbooks in on thursday after the update, so I dont see why it would take longer/they woudn't have it.

1. Yes, they will have it!
2. No you will not you will wait normal time unless you upgrade its ram hd etc.
3. Don't exactly know what your saying but NO

The worst thing is going to be waking up tommorow with nothing... I can only hope. I'm in a very sticky situation right now!!!!!!!! I have a Macbook that apple will replace due to RSS they said they would let me pay the difference for the Macbook Pro but.....if i don't exchange soon they will prolly think im making the problem up.... PLEASE APPLE TOMMOROW!!!

If it was happening tomorrow, there would be some more rumors on the front page.

So I wouldn't get your hopes up. Anyway, WWDC isn't that long off now. ;)

So 100,000 15.4" LED's? Does that mean that the 17" MBP's will not see the LED backlight update (Assuming the 15 inchers even get it!) I am on a 17" PB and would hate to go down to a 15" to get lovely LED screen.

Also... If these rumors of a tuesday update happen... will it be gloabally? Or just in the states?

If its like most of the other updates AKA LAST TUESDAY MACBOOK release it will be global!

Apple's hardware releases are always international. It makes no difference if you buy one from America, Europe or Australia, etc. It may make a difference in shipping times though, for obvious reasons.

And about their being no rumours...
Not trying to get people's hopes up, I wouldn't be surprised if there is no MBP update tomorrow (being Wednesday for us Aussies...), but I don't think it's that far fetched that there would be no rumours of MBP updates, even if they are released tomorrow.
I mean, we've just had all these rumours from last week, about new MBs and MBPs. People would be confused as to whether rumours they are getting now are new, or just delayed from last week. Also, we are talking about Apple. Nothing stopping Apple from not giving Apple stores the MBPs before their launch date, because then someone would tell everyone that they had boxes marked with "Do Not Open Until ../../..!!!". Instead, Apple could just put them on their Online Apple Store, fooling us all. And then send them to Apple stores around the world.
